What do you have for an AVR/processor? Most Denons, for example, apply DRC from the metadata by default, even if you don't have Dynamic Volume enabled. You have to be playing a track, then go into Surround Parameters, and disable it there:

Obviously I don't know that this is what is happening in your case, but it would explain your observations, and it could be enabled without you even knowing it since it is often on by default.

My daughter and friend wanted to watch The Amazing Spiderman series. I ordered them from Apple and to my surprise they were in Dolby Vision.
Apple has the same pricing as Amazon but sometimes you get DV for no extra cost. Both films looked great.

How much of Hulu originals is in 4K SDR?

Kind of regret passing on the recent Spotify/Hulu promo. Went with Tidal Hifi instead.

Will be very interesting to see what is offered on the upcoming HBO Max platform in terms of 4k/HDR content (new stuff, plus possible existing HBO content - GOT, Westworld etc). Hopefully they provide an easy way to upgrade from HBO Now to this!

They're making such a big deal about "Friends" not being available on Netflix but I bought the box set of "Friends" years ago and ripped to local PLEX server so I can watch anytime I want.

Couldn't care less about Friends, but it is interesting to note how super popular it actually is among people today still. Apparently is Netflix's number 1 show! Hence why Warner want it back on their own platform I suppose.

Question about Stranger things Title sequel
Are the white dots flashing on and off normal? I know they did the retro 80s type grain in the image but I don’t remember the white specs in the black background in the other seasons?

They are normal. So, I think is the flashing. There is a warning message.

Demo quality no, improvement over previous versions yes. If you’re a fan of the series IMO it’s worth the upgrade if you can find them at a good price.

Yes they have been there. It's all part of the retro look.

I always hated seeing that in the old days. I certainly don't miss it at the theater.

Hehe. Do you also miss cue marks for the projectionist (sometimes wrongly called cigarette burns - contrary to what fight club's fictional character said, the industry has never called them that)?

Just watched Spaceballs on iTunes at 4k with DV. Looked really great! Although strangely enough there was about half a dozen shots or so that seemed to have zero grading applied to them (they were very very dark and lacking in contrast). This was super obvious and I guess a grading error. Hopefully if it gets a disc release, or if there is one already it is fixed on that...🤔

Either way, it's a completely depressing statistic and a pretty damning on the state of TV both today, and in the past. There are many more series that should definitely be well above that one. I guess it shows what happens when you pander to the lowest common denominator . Netflix's strength, they said, was that they don't chase ratings - they claimed to want to make good quality TV programmes that might have a smaller audience but that audience really loves them as opposed to what the networks have done in the past. Which is to have viewerships packed with the kind of casual viewers who'll watch anything that is a moving picture with sound.

Out of interest where are those stats published for each country?

I find both Friends and The Office hilarious and I would put both in my top 4 sitcoms of all time along with Fresh Prince and Seinfeld. I think there's a reason why Friends and the Office are the most popular on Netflix and the reason is the majority of people find both shows very entertaining and funny.

Not sure where it was published or maybe I heard it on the radio. Bit it is rated based on total amount of hours watched and The Office was over 5 billion hours.
