Had a chat with Bill Hunt and informed him about the listed titles with dates and he checked it over and it appears that the Disney titles that are on Netflix right now are the titles that won't be coming to Disney+ until those titles expire on Netflix which is all over the map. Thor 3 and the Last Jedi both expire in December and will then be moving from 1080pSDR on Netflix to 4kHDR on Disney+. The rest seem to be spread out between April and December 2020.

Heres a list from Bill with the updated "coming soon" tags next to the movies that are currently locked to Netflix.

Thanks for your response. I’m in alignment with you: discs are the superior format at this time. When and if there’s sufficient bandwith for streaming to be competitive with discs, I’ll be on board. I took the plunge with the streaming version of this film and was disappointed: neither video or audio were outstanding. I have a lot invested in my system, and want what I watch to be of the highest possible quality, and at this point in time, it’s 4k discs.

I took the deal for disney plus for 3 years at less than 4 dollars a month. Only tv show I really cared for was Boy Meets World which I still believe is on Hulu. But having all the Marvel and Pixar movies in Dolby Vision/4k is great. But I kind of regret buying so many of those movies on UHD disc now.

The one thing I am disappointed in is the lack of 4k/HDR on all the National Geographic and Disney documentaries. I think the only one I found was “Free Solo.” I was looking forward to 4k/hdr content similar to the Planet Earth episodes on National Geographic but looks like they are all in just HD which sucks. There are a few documentaries on Disney as well but also not in 4k/HDR.

Force Awakens looked as good as I hoped, fantastic. There’s a light grain because it was shot on film. Inky blacks and some really nice HDR pop. Honestly better than I expected.

From my end:

Chromecast Ultra: HDR10 and DD+ (even though the CCU supports Dolby Vision)
Roku Streaming Stick Plus: HDR10 and DD+
LG C6: Dolby Vision and 2 channel audio (WTF!?!)

I am happy to report that the native framerate feature on Roku works with the app even if it can get a bit wonky and shift framerates while going through the menus sometimes.

The whole Disney thing of reserving 4K HDR for their streaming platform and not releasing to disk just sucks, no consideration for those of us that have invested in a decent system but because of "reasons" don't have anything more than a 10mb DSL connection available. Just try streaming a 4K HDR/ATMOS releas with that.

I’m not sure I’d call it “reserving”. More of a prerelease in some cases. Disney actually ramped up releasing some catalog titles before the service launch and I’m 99% some of the titles that are currently “exclusive” will be on disc (namely Star Wars).

I think we are getting Star Wars UHD discs next year , but probably not in DV. Most likely plain Jane HDR10 which can still look great if done right and you have a high impact display.
Disney will continue the Lucasfilm tradition with boxed sets and they are done with the last movie and the whole skywalker saga.
It’s make them Too much $$$$$$ not to!

Given the streaming wars that will happen over the next few years, I think Disney is being as aggressive as they can. Their pricing now means they want to get as many subscribers as possible.

In my opinion, they are only going to do the best format (DV) for their proprietary service, for their titles. They already have a habit of putting titles in their vault, I'd expect all disks to only be HDR10. This will make their service stand out due to their ownership of many desirable titles, and their service being the only one to have DV of those titles.

Conversely, from reading the posts, it seems like they have put the work in to make the UHD versions look good, which is excellent. My ideal would be to get the discs in DV, but I'll take them streaming if needs be. I'll still get the discs when they come.

Not running Disney down, and I will get their service, due to the rock bottom price and great catalog. Just too bad the discs are taking a knock.

Han shot first.

"A 4K restoration of the film was released on The Walt Disney Company's streaming service, Disney+, on November 12, 2019. In the 4K version, the scene has been further modified. A close-up shot of Greedo saying something to Han (presumably an insult), without subtitles, has been inserted after Han's "Yes, I'll bet you have" line. The wide shot used in the 1997, 2004, and 2011 versions appears, but further modified so that Han and Greedo fire simultaneously, with new laser effects showing Greedo's shot going widely off target to the right."

Those may never see the light of day officially ever again as Lucasfilm has stated they will “respect” Lucas’ wishes to “vault” them. Could things change? Sure, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up at all.
