Damn, I just bought 2018 75 QFN thought that it supports HDR10+

***You could always affix a small, permanent sticker on the lower, right portion of your TV set that says "HDR10+." That way, everything you watch will be in "HDR10+."

It does support HDR10+, so Samsung claim. But there's no proof, because it just doesn't tell you in any way, shape or form, when it's receiving/processing/displaying HDR10+. That is the visual indication (on the "info" screen, or anywhere at all) which Samsung are refusing to supply for their 2018 models. When you combine this with Amazon's equal refusal to provide HDR10+ onscreen icons (they are happy to provide Dolby Vision icons for their Dolby Vision content), and it makes for the situation we have now.

But don't feel bad - Vincent Teoh points out in his latest youtube video that we are increasingly learning that HDR10+ really doesn't make any visible difference anyway, unless your panel is <=500 nits.

So cheap TCL and Vizio TV's support HDR & DOLBY VISION and Samsung HighEnd QLED TV's can't even get HDR10+, advertising a feature to compete with other manufacturers and not delivering is very bad business practice.

I am wondering if it is possible to sue them.

Lol you won't be able to sue them.... Most tech companies cover their asses with that kind of stuff with all the fine print they give you in the manuals. Saying stuff like future firmware upgrades may or may not do extra stuff.

Don't get your panties all in a bunch now. Just don't buy Samsung anymore.

Plus, YOU do NOT know the reasons as to why the HDR10+ logo doesn't appear. Maybe it's already on and they don't have a badge to show it, maybe the processor power of the TV's cannot handle processing. Maybe HDR10+ is a just a bad marketing ploy. But if you expected to buy a Samsung tv that was GOING to have HDR10+, YOU should have done homework first to find out 100% if it had HDR10+ and don't tell me you heard it was going to have it and you NEEDED HDR10+ so you bought said tv set.

Ignorance is bliss.

Does HDR10+ even works on the Q9FN with notification indicate that it is active?
And if so would it be possible to activate that functionality on the Q7/Q8FN service menu?

If you are talking about 2019 models, you have to drill down through several menus to find the info. It's not simple. You'd have to ask in the Owner's Thread if there are any hidden secret service menu switches, but I think the chances of them existing but off, (and not just being on by default for all customers) are infinitesimally small.

Yes those tvs have Hdr10+ but I wouldn't worry too much about it. you would need 2 low end tvs side by side to see the difference.

Not much, HDR10+ wasn't designed to use dynamic tone mapping above 500 nits.

I couldn't find an image like this when it was being discussed recently, so now that I've got one I wanted to add it here for reference.

This is the "notification" that the 2019 models get. I'd still like to see what happens on the "Info" banner, though.

Bohemian Rhaspody is HDR10+ & Dolby Atmos

Just watched this 4K movie and didn't know it was in 10+ HDR!!!! And Atmos sound. What a great experience... My 9500 player's info screen showed the HDR10+ badge as input and out to my MU8000 TV.

Must have for Queen fans..

wanted to share some Samsung HDR experience with the group. I have a NU7100 (firmware 1251.0, picture mode=movie) and spent hours trying to get good HDR performance but the colors seemed slightly off, and the light level was too low. I tried many combination of color, contrast, ... settings to no avail. finally I set all numeric picture settings back to the default numbers, set color tone to warm1, contrast enhancer to LOW, and st2084 gamma value to +3. this made the colors look accurate and vibrant and stunning, just like HDR is supposed to be. These settings look great on several devices (including M7500 plaiying Alita: battle angel and apple TV 4K playing blade runner 2049), I had to back down to gamma +1 for the firestick 4K because higher gamma numbers were too bright in you tube and raised gray levels too much for prime video. my theory is that with contrast enhancer = OFF the TV was not performing color mapping or maybe choosing rec709 color space instead of rec2020 (even though I had color space = Auto). not sure if this issue just affects my model, or all Samsung TVs. if you are having HDR issues (too dark, seems like a gray filter is on, colors are muted, ...) give this a try.

Nothing in the description and no pop up (though Samsung doesnt do any hdr pop-ups for the built in apps, only does external pop-ups)

Looks like for external devices, the 2019 sets have an hdr10+ popup for 4k Blu rays. Internal app don't have a popup and haven't for quite some time now.

@Quicksilv3r , the issue is that Amazon claims all of their HDR-10 content is HDR-10+, but you wouldn't know it by any description in their app on any device; hence, the importance of any confirmation from capable displays, for those who have a display that doesn't indicate the format, but should be HDR-10+-capable (like @Cricket-RJ ).

Yes, but it’s been on going for years. We don’t know what’s HDR and what’s HDR10+. Just because someone got a label, doesn’t mean everyone will. Could have been an app update or a tv update. Just take it with a grain of salt that only 2019 and above models will have the label. Don’t lose sleep over it and ask a billion questions

2. And that is NOT a big deal and don't make it a big deal. Samsung doesn't have a dedicated info button

Yep. My TV pops HDR10+ badge when I play "Bad Times at the El Royale" (which I believe is the movie from the picture above) using my Oppo 203. I've tried using Oppo HDMI IN to see whether or not FireStick pops the badge, with no success. So I've contacted Oppo's support asking if HDMI IN supports HDR10+ and they replied "probably not". Precisely.

LOL I love when people people cherry pick the most trivial things because it doesn't fit their narrative.

Lol but No. I actually asked because my UK KS7000 came with two remotes, a real one with all the buttons which I used, and the "smart" remote which I didn't use since I found that many functions needed too many button pressed to get to. My hazy recollection was that the "picture mode" icon, as opposed to the info banner, was one of those. Which is the only reason that I asked. Thanks.

It doesn't matter anyways. I don't think the KS series will ever get HDR10+, which according to Stacey Spears, makes no difference on tvs that can do 1000 nits.

so basically, you get a banner with external HDR10+ sources but not on the internal apps.
