For me, every time there’s an update to the Vudu app for ATV or Android TV I need to reauthorize my ID and PW.

You are implying an antagonistic exchange with Vudu support, but you are asking them to do something that's impossible for them to do. Their licensing agreements don't allow it.

War of the Worlds is Paramount so it's up to Paramount to start participating in Movies Anywhere, Vudu has no influence on that.
And I've also had some titles not get upgraded to UHD. They kept it at HDX even though I have UHD rights and Vudu has it in UHD now. Although I have never contacted them about it. It's usually easier just to buy another digital code for $2 or $3 and redeem it to get the UHD version to show up in Vudu.

Interesting, it looks like Vudu may have went above and beyond and hacked something into place to preserve UV UHD redemptions when they didn't have rights.

I noticed that Passengers, all three Ghostbusters movies, Labyrinth, Sausage Party and Ex Machina all populated into my account as UHD even though they still only play in HDX. All but the last movie are Sony so they would have come through with Movies Anywhere anyways, but Ex Machina is A24 which doesn't participate in Movies Anywhere.

It's nice to know that if Vudu ever gets the rights to that movie in UHD, I'll be able to stream it there. Going over the 4k sheet, Vudu seems to have done that across the board for UHD UV rights.

Some movies are on VUDU without UV or MA, so as long as you owned the movie before UV disappeared, it should stay in your VUDU account, even if there isn't a MA equivalent.

Yes, but what I'm saying is that Vudu is now indicating UHD for certain movies even though they don't have them in UHD and you can't buy them directly from Vudu in UHD. It seems like they transferred over UV UHD movies, setting a UHD flag, even if they don't have the movie in UHD. That way, when they do have it in the future, you'll have UHD rather than HDX.

They are upgrading to UHD is what you are saying. i have Ex Machina and now it is in UHD at Vudu. As long your original code was redeemed as a 4K title once they get 4K they give you the upgrade for free. Nothing changed in their policy, they simply are getting more UHD movies. They did this with Money Ball and Captain Phillips in the past for me.

Try to play it though, it's only indicating UHD in the listing. Playback is still HDX. There are a lot of titles like that now, they are even marked on the 4k Google Doc sheet.

FWIW, I had Ex Machina on FandangoNOW in 4K (UV) and VUDU HDX (UV). Now, VUDU is showing that I own UHD and at the bottom, it's only HDX, no indication of UHD.

Also you cannot buy them in 4K, is this a temporary thing and they will get 4K for these titles soon?

No one but vudu knows. This really seems like a way for them to 'plan ahead' and preserve UHD rights within Vudu after UV shutdown.

Does anyone know if there any issues with redeeming a 4K code on MA if you already have HD rights? Specifically with Disney / Marvel. For example, I just bought the 4K UHDs for both Avengers Infinity War and Endgame and was wondering if MA will allow me to redeem Infinity War in 4K since I already have it in HD. I had a past issue with redeeming a Fox movie in 4K when I already had HD, so wasn't sure if it's a studio specific issue, an MA issue, or just a glitch with that particular movie or code. Thx.

No, there shouldn't be any issue with your redemption. One thing I like to do since it's MA is you can log out of your MA account. Then type in your digital code and it will show what resolution it will redeem without burning the code. Once your happy with the results you can log back into MA and redeem.

That is exactly what they are doing:

https://forum.vudu.com/forum/vudu/ge...-uhd-to-stream

Quote:
These were imported from UV before it is fully shut down - we recently added a feature to import titles/versions that weren't yet available on the Vudu service, so you would not lose the rights.

Since you have the rights in Vudu now, once the titles are added in UHD (this is ongoing, but can't give dates on specific titles) you will be able to stream them on the service.

Issue with John Wick 3 Code redemption?

Anyone redeem the John Wick 3 code yet? I just got the disk in the mail yesterday - when entering the code on moviesredeem.com it is not working. I know the movie doesn't officially come out until Tuesday, but in all other cases the codes worked as soon as I received the movie.

Thanks for any help - admins feel free to move this to a more appropriate forum.

Thanks

There was a notice on reddit a couple of days ago, stating that Lionsgate had temporarily suspended redemptions of John Wick 3. Redemptions are expected to be resumed on release day. I suspect this might be a response to the large number of pre-release redemption codes that have been circulating for a couple of weeks now.

This is not unusual to have issues with the digital redemption before the official release date.

Some have had success redeeming JW3 with movieredeem.com others not so much. Apparently for best results you have to download and use the Lionsgate VIP app. I haven't redeemed my code yet. Gonna wait a bit. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump thru. Lionsgate just can't make it easy.

I redeemed mine last night at Lionsgate and picked iTunes and was done. Something must have happened between then and now.

Ok, my John Wick 3 code story. TLDR, don't redeem at Google if you want 4k.

I bought it through Vudu's disc+digital, so I already had it in 4k there. When I got the disc, I didn't need to use the app, just the LionsgateVIP website. I saw there was an option for Google Play Movies. And since this isn't a MA title, I thought I'd redeem it there because I have a Google Family Share set up. And I checked to see that they have it in 4k HDR there. Unfortunately, it redeemed there in HD. I checked with Lionsgate support and they said to contact Google. Google said that the code is HD. And even if I get another code, Google can neither upgrade resolution nor delete the title to start over. So don't use Google for Lionsgate 4k codes. But silver lining, I was able to download the app and scan the code to get another redemption at iTunes in 4k DV.

Really, I just wish Lionsgate (and Paramount) would join Movies Anywhere already.

So I guess I should redeem my JW3 code at itunes? Although I haven't opened the disc yet.

For you it’s a toss up. IIRC you have both ATV4K and Shield. Shield will get you 4K HDR and Atmos on Vudu, ATV4K gets you DoVi and Atmos on iTunes. So it depends on what’s more important, bitstream Atmos w/HDR or MAT 2 Atmos and DoVi.

One thing is sure, I'm going to be second guessing any Lionsgate purchases from now on (likely waiting till they hit the bargain bin) due to these redemption hoops.

A simple code is good enough the the rest of the industry but they have to go through this whole separate system with security that's not even necessary.

This whole thing with this is to try to prevent people from selling off codes if they just want the disc. It's one of the most anticonsumer moves I've seen in awhile in the industry and I don't want to reward it.

Was the manual code for John Wick 3 fixed yet? I heard it was giving an incompatible flag even though the code slip says it should work.
