Can't get Dolby Vision using Apple TV on Vizio TV

Greetings!

I got a new Vizio 4k TV and upgraded my cables to support it. My Apple TV can drive Dolby Vision direct to the TV without issue. The problem is when I connect the ATV to my Yamaha AVR i can only do HR10. Which, honestly, isn't that big of a deal, but the colors are completely washed out in HR10 and it leads me to believe something else is wrong. I already adjusted the secret 4k Mode to "1" and tried all sorts of changes with both the receiver and the TV, to no avail. All firmware is up to date, as well.

Basically, 1080P SDR looks so much better than 2160p HDR10 and i just can't figure out where I've gone wrong.

Thanks!

TV: Vizio 65" M656-G4 (2019 Model)
AVR: Yamaha TSR-7790BL

Update: hooked ATV directly to TV and TV to AVR using ARC and Dolby Vision and Dolby Digital are both working now. This tells me that the receiver is having issues. However, there is something more important here. I’m not sure if it’s the ATV or the TV, but HDR looks terrible in low light. It goes into so sort of reverse gamma mode when light is very low. The intro to Servant is absolutely horrid! Any one experience the same problem?

Your AVR doesn't support Dolby Vision Passthrough.

Ensure your input on the TV is set to enhanced or full mode whatever Vizio's lingo is now.

Thanks.

I thought that was what the new Firmware was supposed to do?

Regardless, I am now back down to SDR because low light scenes look so terrible. I am reaching out to Vizio next, because I feel like this has to be a TV setting, but i can't find anything in the menu like what you said. :/

Go into the owners thread of your TV. Search a and ask questions......You will find much more info that way.

I have a 70inch vizio 4k. If you go to menu, there is a option called "input settings". go into that and from there choose the hdmi input you are using. Go into that, and find a option called "full uhd color". Make sure that is enabled on the tv. I know on my pioneer receiver there was an option to enable dolby vision passthrough. May want to check if the yamaha has something similar.
