Apple+ dramas - do DPs just not light scenes anymore?

I’m one week into my 4K ownership and still tweaking and tuning things.

One thing I’ve noticed is AppleTV+ shows are very dark. The drama “Defending Jacob”, it seems the DP said, “we have dynamic range, we don’t need to light actors”

Almost every interior scene is dark to very dark where in the scene folks are just using lamps. There are also many lying in bed in middle of night scenes where it’s hard to see. I’m guessing thus is all to set a dramatic tone? But it’s possible my settings aren’t great.

I do see very dramatic dynamic range with near white bright light common from windows in courtroom but when camera pans, I can’t really see the jurors faces

Anyone watching this show and feel the same way? I’ve noticed it with some other Apple shows.
