Coronavirus Free Previews?

I don't know if this is the correct location for this. I'll try a little anyway. I've been doing self-quarantine for some time now. I don't think that I have covid-19. It's an alone situation though. Others are obviously doing the same. Unfortunately, flying solo means my chief interaction is with the tv. The news can be a bit depressing. So, what else to look at? That's the point here. I've been looking at ESPN2 college hoops. BTN basketball. TLN football, NBCSN hockey. But, I see there's baseball on MLB; there's hoops on NBA. You get the idea. I'm not paying enough to get the choice of channels that I might want to watch though. Wouldn't it be nice to have something more than a free weekend preview at this time. Just a thought.

Who is your TV provider?

DirecTV is offering showtime free and then epix I believe...

"...DIRECTV and U-verse customers starting March 20 until March 26 (if SHOWTIME isn’t part of their current video package). Starting March 26-April 2, DIRECTV and U-verse customers will get a complimentary preview of Starz. In the coming weeks, we’ll offer additional previews of premium channels, while also expanding to include our AT&T TV and AT&T TV NOW customers:

EPIX: 4/2-4/16

HBO and Cinemax: 4/17-4/20

..."

"...More News & Entertainment: We’re adding the following channels to DIRECTV and U-verse packages (for customers that do not currently have this programming) to keep customers entertained and informed:

News: BBC World News , CNBC, CNN, CNN International, Fox Business Network, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, One America News Network

Entertainment: American Heroes, Aspire, AWE, AXS TV, Comedy.TV, Cooking Channel, Crime & Investigation, Destination America, Discovery Life, DIY Network, Eleven Sports, FM, Fuse, FX Movie Channel, fyi, Great American Country, GSN, Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, HDNET MOVIES, IFC, Justice Central, LMN, MGM HD, MTV Live, Nat Geo WILD, OWN, Oxygen, Science Channel, ShortsTV, Smithsonian Channel, Sony Movie Channel, SundanceTV, The Weather Channel, Travel Channel, TV One, UPtv, WGN America

Kids: Discovery Family, Disney Jr., Disney XD, Nick Jr., Universal Kids

I'm not asking providers to give away anything, so my provider is not important. If the MLB were to step up to the plate and tell all of the providers that they would supply MLB Network for free, wouldn't DirectTv, Dish, ATT, et. all do the same? I would hope so. Disney, HBO, Showtime, and others could do that too. There's lots of folks who only have a basic level of service (from whatever provider) who might benefit at this time. Just a thought.

MLB.tv is allowing free viewing of games from the last two seasons.

Thanks for the reply Keenan. My thought is that MLB should make the games available to everyone via the provider they now have. I see MLB, NBA, NFL on the channel guide here, but I'm not paying enough to get them. That means there are a lot of people in the same situation. If these were to become free to the providers, there would be no reason to not provide them to everybody. I hope. The same goes for Disney, HBO, Showtime and on and on.

On Dish, Showtime and TMC are at the moment free, though almost everything shown is old. I am recording the first Terminator for the 20th time. Total Recall, Pitch Black and Good Will Hunting are on now too. All the classics.

Step away from the tv and read a book or take short walks as options. Depending on your provider there's always old movies to watch/re-watch. Sharpen your cooking skills.

CBSAA is giving away a free month starting yesterday I think if your intent on the tv being your sole source of entertainment.

Right now you can get Showtime free for 30 days through Amazon Channels or Showtime.com if you haven't subbed through those methods before.

I wouldn't begrudge any TV provider right now for not giving away the farm for free. Traditional linear channels and their providers are really starting to feel the bite from reduced advertising. Many newspapers and magazines in my area that heavily rely on entertainment, dining, and tourism-related advertising are already significantly reducing operations or closing down. Insurance companies and pharmaceuticals are only going to run so many ads

Title edited to make specific. I might move this to our Coronavirus section. If I do, I’ll leave a redirect in Programming as it’s important to both places.

Tsk, tsk! C'mon now! Every one of us should pay very close attention to what our government is telling us about COVID-19, so that we don't all panic when we find out about the other threat they're not willing to tell us about:

Whatever ya do, try to keep at least 6 feet away from it.

A lot of the streaming sites are allowing extended free trials. Even Porn Hub has made it's Premium offering available for free for 30 days, you know, in case anyone was wondering. I wasn't wondering myself, but, you know, just in case some were...

The US now officially has the largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world (81,321). How the heck did that happen? I thought once we hit 15 cases, in a couple of days it would be down to zero? Thank goodness it will be like a miracle and disappear, and all be over on April 12, just in time for everyone to crowd into churches on Easter.

Try youtube , look up something you are interested in and there are usually VLOGS , or documentaries...I spend a good amount of time watching those and youtube usually does a pretty good job of recommendations.

On Spectrum, those who don't have Showtime nor Epix (I already have the former in my package to begin with, lol) on their TV package to begin with, both will be free to all Spectrum customers up until April 16th. Nice.

I just came here to post about HBO. I was surprised they included acclaimed newer shows like Barry and Succession along with the old stuff. Some newer movies too. I guess we don't know for how long. The free stuff still isn't available on certain TV-connected devices/apps. Maybe later today everything will be up and running (works via PC browser and mobile).

I checked this morning and it was available on the HBO Now app on my Fire Stick. But there wasn't an aggregated section of free stuff, it was all mixed in with the pay stuff you can't access. You have to know which titles are free.

I finally found the free HBO content available via the Roku Channel app. In addition to shows/movies being listed separately in the various Roku Channel browse categories, they are also found under Premium Subscriptions \ HBO \ Watch Free This Month — this answers how long it will be available for free, which I didn't see mentioned in any of the articles I read about it.

On HBO Go app on the Roku, there is a a link marked "collections." One of those in the group of collections is labeled "free no subscription content." Or something like that.
