Playboy magazine done...

Looks like they finally found an excuse to shut it down. They are blaming the Coronavirus pandemic. Yea, right. Cancelled my years long subscription a couple of years ago. Ya know, when it quit being Playboy. Had nothing to do with a virus. Sounds like it became a total failure when they started putting "others?" in the magazine and going non-nude. RIP Hef.

The article you linked to says they're shutting down the print edition only. The magazine will continue on as a digital download. Not unusual in this day and age.

Very Sad...online digital edition isn't the same

Remember when you found your dad's playboy collection. I always liked Playboy better than Penthouse. Penthouse had better beaver shots, but they always used that fuzzy photography filter.

Playboy or Penthouse...my vote is for Playboy

Maybe it's just me, but if it's digital, it's not a magazine. It is then a website.

Dad had Easyrider magazine. That's a whole different world Grandpa always had a Playboy under the right side of his LayZBoy, next to the ashtray the size of a hubcap on a pedestal. Ahh the 70's. The cousins and I would literally fight over that chair while the adults were playing cards to just get a glimpse of a page or two. Grandpa knew what was going on. Good times.

My dad hid his Playboys on top of a cabinet in the basement furnace room. As a young impressionable lad, me and/or my friends would check them out. I assumed dad knew the exact order they were stacked, so we would take a few off the stack, put them on the workbench and look at the next one. 99% of the time the workbench ones got replaced. That ONE time I forgot....Busted! Ahh - good times.

Spoiler!

Ah, the semantics game. Websites are commonly categorized as storefronts, magazines, catalogues, etc. Just because a catalogue is digital and not print, doesn't stop it from being a catalogue. Same with magazines and shops.

Jeez. The whole point was that it hasn't been Playboy, whatever, for a long time. That they are trying to blame the Coronavirus on its ( the little stack of glossy papers pressed and glued together into a form that a human can hold in their hands and take with them wherever they go and read without the aid of electricity, stack in their closet and pass on to their eldest son) failure is laughable.

Rumor was Dolly Parton was going to be on the cover of the magazine next year for her 75th birthday. She would have passed Jane Seymour, aged 67, for the oldest ever on the cover.

Looking at Playboy online will never be the same as going to your favorite smoke/magazine shop and picking up the new Playboy and opening it to the ceterfold

Or certain sections of the Sears and JCPenney catalogs. It's too easy nowadays. You used to have to work to get just a boob shot.

They actually went back to nudes, after about 6 months of losing subscribers. I remember seeing a news story on it.

Sounds like it was just going to be a re-creation of the Oct 1978 cover. Lets just picture that, and no nudes. Copies on Ebay going for about $50.

...still not the same. It may be a nostalgia thing, but nothing beats picking up a Playboy and reading it (lol), especially when you did it for the first time. Nowadays you can download boobies anytime anywhere.

Digital cameras is a different story for me. I like being able to take hundreds of pics and not have to develop them at $4.99 for a roll of 24...and not have to discover that most of the pics didn't turn out anyways.

My friend was just telling me his teenage boys found his Playboy stash. The one son said whats with all the hair dad...we both laughed.
