Red face When does the Corona ( Covid-19 ) crisis end?

Some of this ambiguity is inevitable — it may be hard to remember, given the way the coronavirus has distended our sense of time, but this crisis is just a few months old and the scientific and public health wisdom just as preliminary.

Have seen way too many posters lately whose first post ever on AVS Forum is about coronavirus. I think it is naive to think that all these posts are from actual human beings.

Never thought I would see the day when AVS Forum would be inundated with bots. But I am beginning to get a sneaky suspicion that we have been.

I feel really awful for the AVS Forum moderators and technology support personnel during these challenging times.

In this case the first post is pretty reasonable. By the way, it's an unattributed quote from a New York Magazine story:

You report a post by clicking on the little exclamation mark (!) in the lower left corner of each post. When you click on it you will see the following:

At the moment when they find a vaccine the crisis is over. But that is not the end. Bill Gates stated that stuff like this will happen every 20 year now. Might have something to do with deforestation which forces animals to live closer near areas populated by human beings.

Pretty sure a bot started this thread. New "member" signed up and made one post. About coronavirus. On an AV Forum. Never replied to their own post. Typical bot behavior.

I have been seeing a lot of this behavior on various forums. Typical destabilization tactics.

Some are probably hoping it doesn't end.

"San Francisco gives free drugs, alcohol to homeless quarantining in hotels"

Quote:
The city has handed out either booze, tobacco or medical cannabis to 43 homeless people with addictions to deter them from leaving the hotels and potentially spreading coronavirus, Jenna Lane, a spokeswoman for the city’s Department of Health, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “They’re doing San Francisco a great service by staying inside,” Lane told the paper. “We’re saying, ‘We’re doing what we can to support you staying inside and not have to go out and get these things.’ ”

There's really nothing in the content of that post that any reasonable person could find objectionable. All it basically says is that this coronavirus hasn't been around very long and we're still learning about it. That's pretty much what everyone acknowledges. If it was an objectionable bot post it would merit reporting to the moderators.

But that often happens with someone who uses the forum software to post their first message. (It was the person's first message and still the only message posted.)

Still, it is odd that the person hasn't come back to participate.

Maybe or maybe not.

From THIS source you can read the following:

Quote:
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report features interim estimates of effectiveness for the 2019-20 seasonal influenza vaccine. According to the report, the overall estimated effectiveness of seasonal influenza vaccines is currently 45%.
Since the current flu vaccines are far from totally effective, why should we expect this "yet-to-be-created" vaccine to be any better. So while the number of potential cases can be somewhat reduced, this disease isn't going anywhere.

Because there are so many strains of the flu that its only effective against the strains the current vaccination supports. The SARS-CoV-2 virus isn't as widely mutated and it is expected that a vaccine will be more effective. Even so, the flu is pretty well under control enough that it doesn't put a stop to society. So whatever the vaccine + treatments for the flu are, they are working pretty well.

I don't think people are expecting a vaccine to eradicate the virus off the face of the earth. But it should make it so its so much less likely for for *you* to catch it that you can go about your business. I expect by the time a vaccine is out that we also have a treatment (tamiflu style). The combination of both of these things make the risks of this virus far lower.

One is dealing with vaccine as well as natural immunity. By the time there is a vaccine many will be naturaly immune. Once large number of people have gotten a vaccine there will be like 50+% immunity.

''If a sufficiently high number of individuals in a population are vaccinated, they will provide herd immunity to the small number of people that are not vaccinated.''

''a very rough estimate suggests that we will only reach herd immunity to Covid-19 when approximately 60% of the population is immune.''

''Herd immunity can only be reached by widespread vaccination (but there is currently no vaccine, and it may take a long time before an effective vaccine becomes available) or by individuals falling ill and recovering thereby developing natural immunity against the virus.''

Not according to Bill Gates who has apparently crowned himself a virus expert (but given his success in eliminating them in his Operating Systems, I doubt it). I read or heard a quote from him the other day that we need to vaccinate 95% of the world's population.

I don't get the hate for Bill Gates, he's billionaire plowing his money into improving the health of the population of earth. He listens to the medical experts, then using his "bully-pulpit" broadcast their message. Not like some billionaires that hoard their money to pass on the the brats or that don't seek out experts because they are THE expert on everything.

If the vaccine turns out to be 50% effective you will need to vaccinate significantly more than 60% to get to the 60% herd immunity factor. The goal for measles is 80% herd immunity, why is the goal for COVID-19 so much lower.

This one is just over the top..i do not believe he is that dumb. Maybe he wants people to watch his video and says something stupid so the press writes about him and more people googling (Edgeing) him. LOL he made that video while YouTube is very slow on the new Microsoft browser. Lots of people complaining about that.

J&J's stated goal is to next year produce one billion of the 7 billion vaccine doses Gates claims is needed. Are they too over the top?

Because a tactic of conspiracy theorists is to discredit legitimate sources of valid information that contradict conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theorists employ the same basic tactics as cult leaders -- you can no longer trust anyone or anything you've trusted your whole life.

If Mr. Gates was elected instead of Trump, The USA would have been the most prepared country in the world for Corona Virus. He posted a video of speaking engagement he had in 2015, telling everyone, we are not prepared for the next virus. The world could have been prepared, but it is rather reactive rather than proactive, and no one wants to pay for stuff until an actual problem arises. When it does............ all of a sudden the money pit is endless.

The cure for the coronavirus is currently financial ruin. Its the first cure, that no one wants, and usually everyone would fight for a piece of the cure. The governments has turned all people, into just another social assistance tool. People in Canada, have always been rather layed back in any kind of protest, but even Canadians have recently protested........ enough is enough already.

This all is starting to remind me of the "Walking dead" series. Here in Canada, health care aids have run from there jobs, and left the elderly to perish in care homes . The military now take care of elderly. As long as fear, and Greed, remain, so will the coronavirus.

Anyone spend a big chunk of cash on Audio lately. ?, I bet not many,

As stated by a expert roughly 60% of (world)population needs to be immune to have herd immunity (community immunity). 60% minus those who are already immune need to get a vaccine, any vaccines on top of that is business related..

I myself also have slow YouTube in Edge browser..had to change to YouTube classic mode which looks like it runs in Explorer.

Right, because no vaccine is expected to be 100% effective. Say a vaccine is 60% effective and you vaccinate 95% of the population. That gives you a 57% herd immunity. Lets say you need 50% immunity to achieve what you consider herd immunity. If your vaccination percent then drops to below 84%, you lose herd immunity due to antivaxers.
