I'd like to attend, but I don't leave my office in Teaneck until 6 so I'd be a bit late.

adidino 10-14-2009 08:18 AM

Would love to have you Barry.. No problem coming late. I'll mark you down. PM me for details.

korkster 10-28-2009 02:26 PM

Hello Everyone,

I hope you don't mind having a novice join the group. I've been loving this stuff for a long time but I'm just now in the process of building my first dedicated theater, in my basement. Just finished with drywall, and I'm ready to get into the fun stuff. I hired Brian Pape to put an acoustical design plan together for me. I need to make projector, screen, etc. decisions in the near future. I would love to be able to discuss some of this stuff with people who know a whole lot more than I do about this stuff.

I'm not sure how to "subscribe," but I'd like to participate. Thanks.

Welcome Korkster.

Read the first post on this thread. Our first meet will be on November 19th. Look forward to meeting you.

So far we have 7 confirmed. We need to have a minimum of 10. Please PM me before the end of this month to confirm your attendance on November 19th.

adidino 10-29-2009 07:25 PM

Those that are interested, here's the link to Talk of the Town's website. The showrooms on the main page are actual rooms we will have the opportunity to audition. The room to the left I checked out recently. B&W 802D, Classe ssp800 proc and amps. Incredible room..

Just wondering how this was coming along.

Have we gotten the needed 10 participants?

adidino 11-13-2009 02:50 PM

We have 8 right now.. couple pending. I hope to hope the final responses in the next day or so.

barryecohen 11-18-2009 08:28 PM

So is this happening?

korkster 11-19-2009 06:49 AM

I'm wondering the same thing. I need to take off of work early to make it, but that's what I'm planning to do if we're on.

adidino 11-19-2009 06:53 AM

I never received final confirmation from the few others I needed to make this worth while for a meet. As a result, we're going to cancel. At this point, I'll schedule something at my home in West Paterson for another day if anyone is interested.

barryecohen 11-19-2009 01:22 PM

Bummer, oh well.

korkster 11-19-2009 07:38 PM

Thanks for the effort Tony. I'd be interested in showing up if you're willing. Easy drive from North Haledon .

barryecohen 11-20-2009 05:38 AM

Like Korkster, I too would be happy to attend a home based meet, and appreciate your efforts Tony!

I'd also be willing to bring my Oppo BDP-83 if folks are interested in seeing what it can do.

That (BDP-83) I have also. Love it so far, and I don't even have a 1080P display yet. I'm about to the point of needing to make a projector decision though. Thought it would be fun, but too many choices and no idea what to do.

barryecohen 11-20-2009 12:36 PM

I've got a Mits HC-1500 (720p) projecting onto an 8'x4.5' or 110" diagonal White Canvas screen. I love it! Though now that I've started getting more Blu-ray discs, I'm starting to want a 1080 display. When I bought the 1500 last year the 1080 PJs were still a bit out of reach for me financially, so the 1500 will have to do for an few more years. At that time I'll likely benefit from additional tech trickle down and be getting a really nice 1080 LED DLP PJ for my $$$.

P.S. My preference usually is to buy Last Year's hot item. That way I don't pay a premium for tech that gets out dated faster than I can buy it

adidino 11-20-2009 12:51 PM

JVC RS10 or RS20 can be found for good prices right now.

barryecohen 11-20-2009 02:55 PM

Well everything is relative, but the RS10 at well over $3K, and the RS20 at well over $5K, are way out of my budget for a piece of AV gear at this point...

I now wonder if checking out your system will be a good thing for my AV Nervosa

You can come by anytime.. How about the Epson or Panasonic? Not bad for their price point.

korkster 11-21-2009 08:37 PM

Thanks guys. I'm actually giving quite a bit of thought to the Mits HC6800. The JVC's are great, but a bit steep in price for me right now after spending so much building this theater. Thinking about the Panny AE4000 too, just not sure if it's what I'm looking for optically although everyone that has purchased it seems very happy, and you can't beat the price for what you get. The new Epson is supposed to be real nice but it's manual focus and zoom, and I'm going to be using an A/T scope screen, probably a 120" (115" wide) Seymour AV fixed frame. I'm sure the SMX is better but it's also more than twice the price, and I've been reading good things about the Seymour product, especially it's acoustic transparency. Lot's of things to think about and no experience with this stuff. My brain hurts .

You should consider subscribing to the thread, "Thread Tools v" towards the top right, so that you get an email when something is posted...

Hi Ken,

Welcome. I don't know if you remember me from my visit to your house a bit over a year ago. I'm still impressed with what you did. Great job!

I've gotten to the point where everything is drywalled and I'm working on the acoustical treatments. I couldn't do much regarding sound isolation as my wife wanted things to be a bit open, but I hope to make the sound that's there as good as possible. Trying to figure out the projector/screen combination at this point. My head is spinning but I think I'm getting closer to going with the new Panasonic AE4000. It seems to be the best value out there for someone like me whose doing a scope screen, but can't afford an anamorphic lense set up. Would love a JVC but can't justify twice the price at this point.

Hope all is well with you. Any upgrades since last year?

Korky

Hi Korky,
Nothing new in my theater. I would like to see yours when you are done. My next upgrade will be a 2:35: Constant Image Height Screen.

chester aldrid 12-21-2009 09:07 PM

I would be interested next time there is a meet.

Chester
