Ok Guys,

I'm in Southern MD ...

If there are any GTG's I can bring the 1099's and Maybe, Just Maybe a Mini Marty or so.. lol.. I keep reading about MidWest GTG's and some North Eastern GTG's that are a lil too far. Lets get it together fellas and make something happen. I cannot Host any, but can help someone host. I'm starting to love this hobby.

LETS DO IT..

If you KRANK it.. They will Listen..

I think we're getting to the point where I can no longer hide behind "almost done", and we'll be scheduling our "Pay Back GTG" for some time late spring...

As a townhouse resident I have significant space (and volume) restrictions. My main speakers are to big and heavy to move, but have some diy coaxial surrounds speakers that can travel.

I definitely am jealous of all the GTG's held in my pre-military home, Kansas City.

Source for Owens Corning 705 (Reuse?) Acoustic Material

First post, ...ever - although not about GTG. As I am finally beginning my theater, looking for value sources and found one.

I wanted to make our community aware of a local source of OC705 material via Craigslist that is normally (surprisingly for me) pricey. Search terms are insulation, Middleburg. No connection w/ seller, satisfied buyer.

He is selling Owens Corning Acoustical/Insulation Rigid Fiberglass Board. This product is unfaced (plain), asserted to be OC705, but do not think he knows. Panels are 3'10"W x 10'L x 1"thick, $10/board ~40 sqft. While he is located in Middleburg, he delivered (unwieldy size) to my home (Fairfax) on weekend - very accommodating. He has 120 boards remaining.

Material is similar to OC703 w/r to sound absorption, but denser. Ref: Bobgolds absorption coefficients website http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm. NB: Website value for 705 1" unfaced at 125Hz seems inconsistent on this otherwise tremendous webpage. OC703 goes for ~$46 + SH for 2'x4'x1" x 6 panels (48 sqft) at Acoustimac, more expensive elsewhere. Linacoustic is reported to be $190 for 4'x100'x1" roll (McCormick's Insulation in Manassas - Thanks BigMouthinDC/Jeff!!!).

Material looks a little rough, but OK shape for what we use it for. Seller provided 20% extra to accommodate dings, etc. Will be careful to use mask/gloves as panel was friable. Heavier/stiffer than anticipated.

Ordered extra, got even more. Will give away excess after done in hopefully not too distant future. Now have to determine how to use it. HTH

Phased Adaptive Approach Theater (tentative)

Hi everyone my name is Dave and I live in Arlington VA. I do not have a dedicated theater because I live in a 1300sqft condo. My setup is in my livingroom/ kitchen which is a humble 5.1.4 Atmos setup with:

B&W CWM7.3 (3) up front
B&W CWM7.4 (2) surrounds
B&W CCM682 (4) Atmos speakers in ceiling
Velodyne DD10 sub
ROTEL RMB1565 (5 channel amp)
ROTEL RMB1575 (5 channel amp)

LG E6, Marantz 8802a,Oppo 203,Xbox One

Would love to meet up and watch some movies and also get some advice on making my setup and tuning from some veterans. I am going to be in the market for 2 subs soon but not sure what to get, was thinking JL Audio.

None that I'm aware of. There used to be a few that would travel into the area and people would set up appointments while they were here. I did a quick search and can't find the list of those who would service the area. I'll look some more and post any updates.

Hi All,

Long time lurker, I'm looking into building some 893's or 1099 and want to hear them first. Anyone in the area (Maryland) have some? Any GTG meets planned in the next couple of months? I built a marticube last winter/spring and really enjoyed the process. Thanks

I live in Maryland (near Gaithersburg) and Jeff Meier has been to my house a couple of times to help calibrate my JVC projector and my Panasonic plasma. He also spent some time tweaking my sound system for me. He generally makes a couple of trips a year to the area (in the Spring and Fall but not during the winter). You can reach him at his website: https://www.accucalav.com/

I highly recommend him. PM me if you want to know approximately how much it cost me to get him to calibrate audio and video in two rooms at my house.

Hey, all. Interested in getting ideas for gear for my (stereo-only, 2.1/2.2-channel) home theater setup. My current gear (receiver and speakers, consisting of a ~1979 Pioneer SX-680 and ~1992 Yamaha NS-A2835 towers) needs replacing, hopefully in the next year or so. (I'm stereo-only because my focus is on music more than movies/TV, and also because I dread the complications of all that wiring/mounting of speakers.)

I live near Gaithersburg in Montgomery County and would be interested in attending a GTG if there are any planned, particularly if anyone's got Chane, Q Acoustics, or Monitor Audio floorstanders, as those are ones I'm considering (Chane A5.4, Q Acoustics 3050i or Concept 40, Monitor Audio Bronze 5 or 6). Thinking of a Yamaha R-N803 or Outlaw RR2160 to power the whole thing.

Glad to be here. Came across the whole meetup forum by accident, and glad I did. :-)

Hi again, all. Wondering if anyone in this area has the Dayton Audio Epique CBT24 Line Array Speaker System:
https://www.parts-express.com/epique...-pair--301-982

I'm considering these for my two-channel system (along with two smaller subs, such as Hsu VTF-1s or SVS SB-1000s), but these are large and cumbersome enough that returning them if I don't like them would be a major hassle. If anyone has these and is willing to let me hear them, I'd be very grateful. PM me or, if you dare, reply here and prepare for the flood of requests.

A friend of mine ( @Archaea ) bought a pair at AXPONA last year. Although he lives in Kansas City he has first hand experience with them.

Very unique speakers. Here's my thoughts on them.

And here's Randy's - my friend I went to the show with.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/89-sp...l#post52539505

We were both impressed enough to buy them outright at the show after their demo.

I'm ashamed I've not put mine together yet. I started finishing them - got about 5 coats of spray on them, then got sidetracked with other projects and they sit unfinished...

But I like the line array concept so much I jumped on these 13 JBL CBT 70j1 recently --- so the Epique cbt24k will likely be on living room duty whenever I manage to get back to that project.

This group (DMV HT enthusiasts) has been quiet for a LONG time - let's see if there's still interest. I'd love to see/hear some other folks' systems - anyone interested in showing off?

I'm in Falls Church City, and have a 6.2 system that I'd be willing to show if anyone's interested. Dedicated theater/audio room can hold 3 people (couch) easily, and pull in two chairs to max of 5.

Faroudja By Meridian D-ILA 1080MF1 Video Projector
Onkyo TX-NR818 AVR
Front LR - Legacy Signature IIIs
Front Ctr - Legacy Silver Screen
Rear LR - Celestion CS100
Rear Ctr - Vandersteen VCC
Subs - 12 inch and 15 inch Dayton Audio w/ Triad outboard amps
Oppo BDP-95 blu-ray player

I've got a bunch of classic blu-rays (James Bond, numerous rock/jazz concert discs)

Let me know if you want to show your system or come see mine.

I'm interested in general, but especially when someone has gear I've been considering. Anyone with an Outlaw RR2160 or Yamaha R-N803 paired with Chane A5.4s, ELAC UF5s, or Q Acoustics 3050is would have an eager listener in me.

I'm in Montgomery Village and have an ancient Pioneer receiver and Yamaha NS-A2835s with crumbling woofer surrounds. Who's coming over? Haha...
