Hello- I am looking for some folks in the Portland, OR area looking for top notch video calibration. I just haven't found anyone locally I am impressed with. Gregg Loewen, with LionAV.com is willing to come to the area, but he needs at least 6 calibrations to make it worthwhile. Anyone here looking for calibration services?

This thread was, once upon a time, the busiest Local meetup thread on AVSforum. I joined shortly after the group’s chief enthusiast/calibrator moved away. DaGamePimp was holding down the fort admirably for a few years after the fact, but I’m guessing he got weary from trying to keep people interested. People just got busy and stopped showing up.

I’d still like to host a GTG at some point, but it’s certainly not as easy to make things happen now that I have kids and responsibilities.

Hey guys, it's been a while, I had no idea that people have been posting recently (no longer get notifications and my login seems to reset often, I just had to go find my password ).

Please forgive my lack of involvement here, and the following which is probably TMI. I just want to level with the group because I met many fantastic people over the years and I really enjoyed the GTG's.

As the hobbyist that started this group and held the first GTG (back in 2002) I did try to keep it going but people eventually seemed to get bored with the same calibration centric meet. We lost Kevin (Krasmuzik) when he moved away due to a job, his knowledge really propelled the events into something much more than what I could have done alone. I think we all learned a great deal from Kevin and I consider him a mentor even though I already had years of previous HT related experience (Kevin was well beyond where I was at the time regarding HT).

As my final GTG I offered up a gaming centric meet that failed terribly (had 10+ confirm with only a single family showing up) so I figured that was the hint to move on. I blame myself for the group failure because I tend to be too enthusiastic and it can come across as pushy (not my intent). I tend to speak my mind, not much of a filter, and I know people can find it off putting so please allow me to apologize to the group as a whole (please know that I never intend to offend, that's just my personality, Kevin was very similar which is likely why we became friends and got along so well). That said I don't want the new posters to think I run around cursing or casting dispersion (lol), that's not where the filter is lacking. I just tend to say what I think, those here that know me a bit can likely attest to what I am saying.

I have been having issues with my vision for several years now so it's made the hobby a bit more challenging to pursue (especially regarding the calibration aspects where I dove in 100%). My vision changes so frequently that I can't get my insurance to cover it so I just deal with it and get corrections/glasses as often as they allow. Headaches tend to get in the way here and there but I can't complain as I consider myself lucky to be here after having serious heart issues causing random pass outs (I am so very thankful that I was not driving at the time). This is the main reason I stopped offering my calibration services to the local group, also as my autistic son got older he required more of my attention and of course that is always first (he would actually get really stressed if I left for several hours to do calibrations). I recall having to reschedule Ray's calibration because my son had a bit of a fit when he saw me packing up my calibration gear and getting ready to leave. Thankfully my son has adapted and become a bit more tolerant (while not being every single time I'll certainly take the progress).

It would be great to get the group going again if there is enough interest and I would be happy to take the lead once again but I'll ask for some assistance in getting things rolling from those that are interested.

Make it so...

Hey, Jason! It’s good to hear you’re still around these parts! It sounds like you’ve had quite a lot going on in recent years. It’s unfortunate to hear about your vision and heart troubles. It sounds like you’re doing well, considering.

I always found your enthusiasm encouraging, and almost enough to inspire me to try and host a gtg in spite of my humble setup. I’m still down here in Beaverton, and I may try to get something going here. I suppose I should try before it gets into the holiday season.

In spite of working for the same company, I never got around to seeing Ray’s setup before he retired, but I was fortunate enough to visit Tibia last year. That was an experience I’ll never forget!

In any case, if I were to try and host something, say, early November, what do you think are the chances you’d be able to make it? Again, it’s great to hear from you.

Thumbs up

Hey Nathan,

I am pretty much booked up the remainder of the year between family visits and a couple of holiday related projects but maybe there are others that would be able to attend..?

It sounds like you have made a bunch of changes on the audio side, certainly nothing humble about that set-up.

Hey Everyone. I have had a couple of calibration requests down in Portland and plan on heading down that way in the upcoming near future. If anyone in the area is interested in getting on my schedule or looking for details, shoot me a PM. Jim Peterson, owner of Lumagen, is also in the Portland area and talking about holding a grand opening GTG for his newly constructed reference theater. As I hear more about this I will update this thread for those interested in attending.

Hey Hey, so I pop in to see what's happening and Kris makes an appearance, amazing how an HT guru can revive a thread (who knew).

Best of luck on the calibration route Kris, hopefully you'll see some more interest in this area.

I'm sure Jim's HT will be something to behold, please post some pics of the GTG if it happens and Jim is ok with it.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday.

I still have my JVC RS40u if anyone is interested, functions 100%, excellent cosmetic condition, it has ~130 hours on a v3 lamp, new ballast, remote and all original packing plus a Chief mounting plate.
Only selling due to buying a new pj last year (Sony 45es, not really an upgrade, just brighter and gaming capable due to low input lag).

This has been my latest project (about 85% done)...

That's amazing, wish I had the skill set, PinballX is good but I find myself wanting to add/change things.

I hear good things about PinUp Popper but I have spent so many hours on this setup that I am not ready to make a move (I need to finish the actual build).

We have full size and bartop multi-cade's running Maximus Arcade, tried Hyperspin and didn't care for it (too busy).

Post a pic (or link) of your combo cab if you can, would like to see it.

Just wanted to shout out @DaGamePimp - my wife and I bought his JVC, we're new to home theater so he demoed it for us and graciously explained everything we needed to know to get things set up. Super kind and patient, thank you Jason!

I can also say the pinball emulator project is impressive in person, once all the casework details are complete it will be a beautiful piece indeed.

Does anyone here have experience building an IB sub? If so I have 2 -si 15" D2s I want to convert. I was told directly by SI this is possible. How do you determine the box size for them?

Thanks
