I think the Extron unit would improve an already very good setup for your CRT. Don't know this for a fact but the posts make total sense; electronics are very sensitive and feeding the animal what it wants seems reasonable.

I was thinking about bass - mine is pretty weak. I want to feel when the T-Rex in JP stomps

OTOH, I am pretty cheap & don't want to destroy my livingroom. Maybe I could put shakers in my couch?

Downloaded 3.2 last night; haven't even had a chance to unzip it.

Does it pass DTS via SP/DIF?

Hosed up ~120G of HD recordings yesterday - see thread:
https://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=132689

Stupid MS (or stupid me depending upon the way you want to look at).

Further reading shows ME also does this, although I don't think SwapManager supports ME.

I will have some Masters recordings this weekend. I'll get a list together and post it later.

Just recalibrated (it's been ~1 year since I've done this). First check of the numbers show contrast at ~200 - not bad for an LCD. Redoing gain & bias after adding the filter, I get 480. Color balance is excellent; much better than it was. The pic looks the best I've ever seen; only a little lower on intensity. Watching the Masters is impressive (to me, at least).

Anybody have an idea to see what is hitting my harddrive? I was getting jerky DVD and have noticed for a few weeks that my hard drive goes off.

The Task manager has been whittled down to just what I need for the wireless remotes. No update or anything running. When I catch the hard drive going off it never shows any rogue tasks. You would think maintenance tasks would show up right? Any tools I can use to track down the culprit?

I have not seen anything to profile WinME - may not even exist due to the fact that this is a "home" o/s and you will never have any problems like this at home

I am not a really big fan of golf, but this is the most incredible display of golfing talent I have ever seen.

Only parts of it are in HD, the rest is stretched SDTV. The reason for this (says Lee at CBSKOINTV in Portland) is that they don't have enough cameras to cover the whole event. He said they typically have ~7 cameras per hole coverage and they only have 20 HiDef cameras.

I hate the stretch - they did the same thing with the final four BB and it makes for little fat golfers and BB players.

The commercials for Mits widescreen are funny but there are only 3 in HD so they get a little thin. Luckily, there weren't very many breaks.

At least some is in HD and the course at Augusta, GA is beautiful. One of the best pics I have seen with the best probably being CSI. I have recorded:
90 minutes on Friday
180 minutes on Saturday
about 5 hours today. A total of almost 80G.

I spent ~4 hours Friday and Saturday reloading the system and ~4 hours on Sat. recalibrating the projector with the new filter. This projector has never looked so good - I increased the contrast ratio from mid 100's to over 400. It is a tiny bit darker, but the pic looks excellent.

For any who would like to attend, I will send directions via PM.

I am free all day Sunday - anyone going to do the car pool thing?

I haven't seen any times posted.

I also don't know what will be working and what won't at this point

It seems I have fixed ADTV by installing the previous version - it worked late last night for ~2 hours.

It also seems I broke WinDVD - get an error about not being able to display the splash.jpg stuff. It was late last night (actually morning) and I had to work in Vancouver today, so I haven't gotten a chance to track it down. I'll work on it tonight.

For the most part, I can demo the projector and you can see the strengths and weaknesses of one of the better LCD projectors. I have numerous sources other than the HTPC if it decides not to cooperate. I don't know how long any would like to stay, nor what you would like to see. So far, I have free popcorn and dark beer (this month it is Portland Cream Stout) for non-drivers .

Jason, that's unfortunate. If plans change and you can make it, I'm sure we all would appreciate your presence.

I intend over the next few days getting the DVD stuff worked out and may try to cut a few CD-ROMs with some demo HD, if I can ever get the thing working correctly. Unfortunately, I have to work a full week with 2 of the days in Vancouver. Means late nights for me.

I'm still able/eager to go :-) Still planning on bringing the PS2 component video and optical sound cable, and am eager to finally see a front projection home theater (still new at this HT stuff!) I know you most likely all have them but I'll post just in case: want me to bring my Avia diagnostic disc and SPL meter? *shrug* just brainstorming hehe

It ends up I will be on-call that weekend (2% chance of getting called in) and that will mean I can't car-pool. I don't want to be a hassle if I do end up being called in to fix something.

My icq is 1405358 or you can email me directions/address via email at [email protected]

Lookin forward to it,

Matt

Anyone besides Matt?

No starting time takers?

Since krag needs to leave by at least 7:30PM (8:30 PPV show) and I figure you could only stand about 3 hours of me , how about starting at 4:30?

Hello all.
Krag referred me here. When I noticed that the two of us were in on the same popcorn machine group buy AND from the same town, I dropped him a note and he invited me to visit this thread. I had no idea there were this many other "Vancouver area" active enthusiasts. Sounds like I fit right in though. Just a bunch of HT addicts looking for their next hit. (Wouldn't drugs have been cheaper, I wonder?)
So, I'm interested in the next Sunday meet. Details?

Don't forget the popcorn (and the movie)!

Anyone carpooling or can I get directions? PM me or email at [email protected]

Looking forward to seeing your setup - never seen a FP home theater in person...

Noooo! It looks like I may not be there the entire time (another commitment at 4:30). However, I can probably show up late (~6:00ish). Ramick, if you could PM (or e-mail) me the directions, I'd appreciate it. Hope to see everyone Sunday!

I saw a shootout thread for Portland oregon at Home Theater Discussion.
Is this similar type thing? I will be in Portland in a few weeks on business, and I have plans to visit a Portland area residents home while I am out there.

I wish someone would have one of these in Ohio

Fred ,
-- this is not a shootout , just a bunch of Area HT folks getting together to swap ideas and have a little fun at the same time .
-- We are having meets about Once a month so our next meet should be sometime Mid to Late May if you will be in the area at that time .

no, definately not shootout material at my place

I have been able to play ADTV files on WinDVD. The playback is fairly choppy in video. This may be due to my processor (800MHz PIII) as the Task Manager shows 98-100% CPU usage.

So, I will cut CD-ROMs for all who come (and send one along to Jason) of 2 minutes each of:
The Practice ABC
Leno NBC
Hopefully CSI CBS
in HD.

So far, I think the following might be there although I haven't gotten any RSVP:
krag
Greg - you have PM
Drummer Geek - I have no idea who you really are, but you're welcome
Vanessa
Matt

Have I missed anyone?

Sorry, that's all that will fit on CD

hahahah Who I really am? Is that relevant? Guess I could squeeze more in my profile. I don't know what you don't know... but I know you're welcome to know what you wanna know...
Anyway, this sounds like lots of fun, meeting other enthusiasts. Guess I can bore you with my life story when I see you all (take about a minute). Sounds like everyone else knows everyone but me. Looking forward to seeing you there.
