I love the Danleys! I cannot say exactly how they might be different from the Paradigm speakers I previously used as they were quite good in my room.
I don't have what I would call a golden ear so take my comments with a grain of salt. I will say that for Home Theatre, I cannot imagine anything better. Dynamics, clarity, they are wonderful.
For music, some can be fickle when comparing speakers. There are those who
only love sound from electrostatics, ribbons, or dome tweeters. The Danleys have compression drivers and some will say they are harsh. I wont get into a flaming war over this but (I think) most live music you hear is through compression drivers. it is all about a personal preference. These speakers are very flat and don't roll off as most prefer. I don't run Audessey and have applied very little eq (actually not sure if any - but I do for my subs). At some point I may play with some roll-off.
For music, I love these speakers. The imaging and soundstage is absolutely unreal. You have to sit in the main seat to believe how good these image. Only at Dereks apartment have I heard it this good before (and Derek has only the best equipment $$$$) I had a fellow over recently who played a number of instruments in bands and he could not believe how well the instrument sound was reproduced.
I will have a get-together soon and then people can make up there own mind. If anyone is considering purchase of new speakers, you should listen to the Danleys first. They are not pretty but sound awesome. If you don't like the Danleys, I have a used set of Paradigms available that are not going back in.
I have the HD version of "The Art of Flight". If you have not heard about it, it has amazing audio track and the video is superb. It is an excellent demo film for a get-together.
