Hello Colorado crew!

Curious if there are DIYers in the Denver area? I'm in Erie (near Boulder) and in the process of designing my multipurpose (heavy emphasis on TV/movies/sport/gaming) media room... would love to get an 'experienced DIYer' eye on it and hear/see what you did!

Well I have a setup with DIYSoundGroup speakers. 1099's for LCR, Volt 10's for surrounds, and currently building Volt 6's for rears. I have two DIY sealed subs with HST-18 drivers. For electronics I have an Emotiva XMC-1 with Dirac room correction, and I use Crown amps to drive all of the speakers. For a display I have a professionally-calibrated 65" Panasonic VT60. For sources I have an Oppo BDP-83, TiVo, Apple TV, PS4, and Mac Mini for iTunes and Plex.

The room is not a dedicated home theater, but a multi-purpose finished basement.

I've had a couple people over who have been very complimentary, but YMMV. If you are interested in coming over, let me know.

Im currently in Highlands Ranch. Just moved to Colorado last year... Stuck in an apartment but have my Living Room surround setup up and running. Just bought a house in Centennial that will be build this year and hopefully be ready in the spring of 2017 giving me a massive unfinished basement for a dedicated HT and more.

Would love to connect with local HT enthusiasts and see your builds and gather as much info for my future planning and build.

Are you doing it yourself or contracting it out?

Plan is to do most of it myself. I’ll probably have an hvac, plumber and electrician do work when I don’t think I can handle different parts.

I’ll probably have a drywall crew do the rest of the basement to leave me with the theatre room.

Hi Guys,

I'll try an keep an eye on this thread, as I'm in the Denver area often with family in Highlands Ranch and friends with a pretty awesome basement theater I helped with in Erie. I'm out even more in the winter when I can sneak away for some skiing.

My parents just moved out to Highlands Ranch last September and have a big basement we'll be setting up as a big media/movie room. I managed to barter a screen from a customer for the front wall which gives us a 10.5' wide 16:9 image or 14' wide 2.35 image.

Here's a look at the frame set up so we can figure screen height and the little bit of framing needed (only 9" on each side of frame). The front wall will be all fabric with speakers & subwoofer behind screen/frabric.

The back of the room has a nice bar and the real estate agent even gave them a nice housewarming gift knowing my plans for the room:

After the system gets up and running, I might be able to work out a gathering.

Very nice! I’ll have to also have a gathering whenever I finish mine... not sure when that will be though.

I'm definitely down for some local HT gatherings! We're in West Arvada in new construction with an unfinished basement. I plan on setting up a multi purpose media room down there with a 4K projector and 5.2.4 Atmos sound. I don't know how much I'll be able to do myself since I have no experience with construction.

I'm willing to lend a hand to some of you just getting started with your builds so that I can learn something.

Sounds like a plan! I’ll let you know when I get to framing the theatre room

In case it wasn't clear to others, :

I have had lots going on with a new baby boy a home, so I haven't checked in with this friend for more than a few months now. I'll have to reach out and see if he could sell his wife and family on a limited invite/showing.

The speakers in the system that are mine are the 8xF18s along with 6 Spark XC surround speakers.

Any thoughts on getting a showing for the Erie theater?

In Arvada

We just moved to Arvada 3 weeks ago and have an unfinished basement in which we plan to build a theater. We had a dedicated, sound treated room in our former house, which we sorely miss. I would love to see other theaters and get recommendations for local contractors to build out the space. TIA.

Yea I hear you on that! I ordered more wood and the guy who dropped it off said “it’s really taking you a long time down there huh?”

It was an order 7 months after the initial one but still....

Let us know when it’s done, I’d love to check it out!

Recent transplant myself. In the process of trying to determine how to create a space out of the finished basement area. Good to see some people in the area into home theater.
