Man, I would love to come but have a bday party for my 3 year old that day. I might be able to make it if it's in the evening.

Hey Scott, thanks for the invite. I'm up for that day, sounds like fun and I'd love to see your theater.

Scott,

I'm in. Any thoughts on the movie? If you're cranking up the subs I'm thinking something in the action genre. biggrin.gif

I'm at 50% - I'll either be showing up and bringing a friend jumping into HT (Josh), or I'll be house shopping.

Probably won't know until Saturday.

If I'm house shopping, you can't be mad, because that means a new HT build!

Just curious, what are the movie choices? Provided the screen goes in without a problem, of course wink.gif

Good time last night, Scott, thanks for hosting. Nice meeting you and the rest of the guys. My first time experiencing an AT screen, and the theater room looks and performs great.

Hello Everyone, I am looking to get some bids to handle the drywall chores in my basement. Does anyone have any referrals or recommendations in the area? Scott, I left a message for Beto's Drywall on Thursday and havent heard anything back yet, so I am open to any other options.

Thanks guys,

When I constructed my bass traps a few years ago I used Bonded Logic UltraTouch Denim Insulation that I purchased from Sensible Sound Solutions. Just a heads up that Menards is now carrying it and you can go pick some up for your room/theater. It has a very high bass absorption coefficient based on Bob Gold's website.

You can also get 1' square Bonded Logic acoustical panels at Menards. Menards only shows graphite colors, but the Bonded Logic website shows other colors available in 96x48" sizes. Perhaps they could be custom ordered at Menards. I can see someone using the colored panels on their walls without needing to make frames or cover with GOM fabric.

thank you very much for the pointer. is this what you used?

http://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/insulation/rolls-batts/r13-23-x-93-ultratouch-denim-insulation/p-1726900-c-5780.htm

since these are not as rigid as OC703 or rockwool, are there any tricks to the panel construction? any problems cutting them to 2'x4' pieces? do you have a build thread for your bass traps project?

thanks again

Those are 3.5" thick. I used either the R19 or R21 which are 5.5" thick and end up being cheaper per cubic ft. Notice that you can get both 23" and 24" wide batts. I think mine were 24" wide.

I don't have a build thread. I didn't make panels, but used them for superchunk bass traps in the corners. Basically I cut triangles and stacked them in the corners. I don't think they would work for panels. I used one bag for each 8.5' front corner of my room. I cut them on a table saw, but am now using an electric meat knife to cut insulation and it works great. A batt knife works great on fiberglass, but I haven't tried one on cotton.

thank you. I may still want to give it a try for panels.
One $90 pack should be enough for 16 2x4 panels with better absorption coefficient numbers @125Hz than 4" OC703 bats. It's just too tempting.

I got on here Saturday night after a week in MN and saw that you had a get together. Guess that's what I get for being distracted with other projects and not visiting the forum.

Hey guys. Im new to the area and will be starting my theater build next fall. That leaves me with all winter to plan, the spring to build a deck, and the summer to build the backyard fire-pit. Ive been scrolling through some of your threads and it looks like you have a good group going.

Thanks, it will be a dedicated space. It will be challenging because its a hearthstone home in west O. Typical basement setup I think. Nothing insanely soundproof, but I do want something to keep most of the sound in there.

Yeah man, I'd definitely appreciate your input and see your setup.
