So @jedimastergrant bought tickets for December 17 at 8:30PM
and @Ladeback bought tickets for December 17 at 8:30PM

Are you guys both at the same Dolby Prime?

I don't have a problem with that being our designated activity this month. We haven't otherwise had a host volunteer a home theater for this month - and this time of year is always busy.

Today I bought 4 tix for 10:30am on 12/26 at the AMC in Olathe, in "Real 3D". Those tix are going in stockings for the family for Christmas. When I got to the part where I could select seats, EVERY seat was available. Felt good to be first, and get those seats where nobody is immediately in front of you, right in the middle of the theater!
Even my wife is going with us that morning, and she couldn't care less about Star Wars...

Again, going at 10:30 in the morning is much cheaper than the afternoon or evening. $7.49/ticket before taxes and fees.

I went ahead and upgraded to the the Xbox One S on Black Friday. It should serve as a UHD drive once bitstream is added. Then I'll have two and can put my Phillips upstairs once I get a 4K TV. I got a bundle (Battlefield 1 Bundle + Gears of War 4 + Extra Controller) for $250. I lost signal now and then with my old controller, so hopefully the added range of the new ones helps with that. And now I have two controllers instead of one.

I sold my old XB1 along with Battlefield and Rise of the Tomb Raider for $160, so the cost to upgrade, add a controller, and get Gears of War was less than $100.

Did anyone watch the Big 10 championship game with the fox sports vr app? I gave it a try on my galaxy s6 last night. They had a few scenarios and one was from a sideline luxury box. I was pretty impressed with it. Not quite the picture quality as the regular broadcast, but pretty exciting to see where things might be going.

We have a 2-PS3's and my 7 year old son was asking for an Xbox, but he doesn't even play with his PS3 unless I play with him. I was still thinking of getting a Xbox One S, but read that next year they are coming out with Xbox Scorpio next year that us supposed to be even better then the One S so I decided to wait and I have nothing to watch 4K on yet. Planning on getting the Epson 5040 or 6040 when I get my HT close to being done, maybe next year.

I am curious on how the One S preforms, let us now what you think after you put it through it's pace's. I have always been a Play Station guy and no nothing about Xbox.

Woah...

Check this out. I already knew that they had re-done the theater with full size recliners. We went to see that Harry Potter Beasts movie and the seats were great and sound wasn't half bad, didn't compete with Barry Woods or Nall or Olathe though. The screen was small, but overall much improved over how terrible the theater has been for many years.

However I just saw this on Facebook. DTS X theater with massive screen and full size recliners. It's only 4 miles from my house!! Derek, you too!

Wow, can't wait. It's supposed to be ready for SW, but I'm going to stop by and ask to make sure. I called but they only have automated phones, can't get a human.

Ok. I've been there 4 times in last 10 days. I almost texted you!!! You can actually drive through the parking lot without throwing a tire too!!

I'm debating starting a thread of KC theaters. Such as "theater 2 at Shawnee b&b has a torn sub and the front left has a blown CD". An example but true story of the remodeled theater that I heard on monday. .

I am in love with their color scheme. "Aquamarine with a jazzy sprinkle of navy supported by a fundamental beige on the ground. Mix in the black recliners and its fabulous!!!!"

Any of you local boys need a fantastic La-Z-Boy office chair. I'll sell it for less than I bought it for = $240 before tax. I'd sell for $215, to avoid the hassle of disassembling and taking it back to Costco.
http://www.costco.com/La-Z-Boy-Big-%...100153363.html

I assembled it 2 nights ago and it's perfect condition, and very stout.
I decided to go with a different chair instead, a Serta chair from Office Depot that fits my disproportionate back height a little better.
My only complaint with this Lazy Boy chair is that being 6'3" and most of that as back height rather than leg height - the chair makes my shoulders hunch forward a bit when sitting. Otherwise it's SUPER comfy and looks pedigree with the real wood arms and legs. It's as comfy and plush as it looks. Rated for 400lbs, 10 year warranty.

Joy rides, sit before you buy, welcome.

Not used more than about 30 minutes.

I saw this on facebook last week and thought it might be promising. I do hope the seats in the finished theater have better line of site than what that 2nd picture shows. Looks like there would be some issues if the row in front didn't recline unless the screen in that theater is up high.

B&B has been promoting that a bunch through facebook. It's interesting how those "ads" hit everyone. That being said it's been super interesting seeing the updates in passing. It's like following a thread on here, but slightly larger scale.

I am really curious about that theater. I had no idea it was going in. Less than 10 minute drive. I will check it out eventually.

I remember a few months back when AMC Prime changed its branding to Dolby Cinema and I was really surprised. I asked (probably in this thread) wondering what DTS plans were? And what was AMC going to do when a movie comes out in DTS:X? Still put it in the same Dolby Cinema theater? I dunno. But, it is good to see DTS going in with their own theaters. Bring it on! So I wonder if the surround speaker configuration is actually any different for the DTS theater? Maybe just the processing then? I am sure the commercial practice is different than residential.

Mini GTG at my place.

I'm having people over to my place this Sunday morning to see the difference between the JVC RS 500 and the Epson 5040 projectors. Desertdome will be calibrating the projectors Saturday night so that they will be ready Sunday morning.

I can't have a ton of people, so far 3 people are possibles. I could probably do up to 8 ish people. I just finished putting up 4 ceiling speakers for Atmos and picked up the Yamaha 3060 AVR. Contact desertdome if you are interested in the 3060, he'll give you a great price.

My room won't be dialed in yet, but shouldn't be too bad. I'm looking forward to messing with the Yamaha later this week if I get a chance.

PM me if you want to come over Sunday morning. We will start at 9:00 and end around 12:30.

For those wanting to see Rogue One tomorrow night (and don't mind non-prime), there seem to have been some showings added, with good seats available. At least this was the case for the Town Center 20.

Still not sure what is up with the lack of a 7pm prime showing :-/

Edit: Whoah, it looks like at some point a 3D prime showing at 7 was added for tomorrow night at barrywoods? I must have completely missed that. Is this the first 3D Dolby Cinema showing in KC??

I was thinking about getting the new Oppo for 4k disks, but if x-box 1s will have Atmos for games and 4k and be a lot cheaper I think I'll go that route.

I ordered an OPPO on Monday and they said it would ship in about 3 days. I found out Tuesday they were going to ship mine on Wednesday, so I tried to change to 2nd day to have by this weekend for the mini GTG at your place. However, that would have put me at the back of the queue and it probably wouldn't have shipped until Friday or later. It shipped standard FedEx ground yesterday and won't arrive until Tuesday. I will bring my Samsung UHD player.

On a side note, I'm not sure if I should be happy or suspicious. I was checking my credit card and bank accounts online and I noticed my credit card said there was a payment of $989 applied yesterday, and the date was the only info given. My auto payment went in earlier in the month (and was much higher due to work expenses). There was no sign of this on my bank account, and even when I went to view the payment history on my credit card it is not listed. It only shows up in the recent activity. I called the credit card company thinking maybe someone sent in a check payment and it got entered under the wrong account. They said they didn't have any more detail and that it showed the payment coming through my bill pay (that my bank uses). I'm not sure how this has occurred since my bank has no record of it. For the time being it looks like I somehow have received nearly $1,000 of free money.
Well, I'm not complaining, but I am confused. This has now happened a second time. This time for a little over $500. Just a random payment to my account, but not from my bank.

Any of you locals need a pair of Gjallerhorns? This fellow has his for sale for a great price in the AVS FS thread.

You can't build them for that.

I'm half tempted myself - but I don't personally need them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm holding out hope that @Ricci is going to design an Affordimaul (Pennymaul, Ultimaul, Maximaul, Grandmaul ($1000 in drivers = grand? etc) --- whatever named --- a four driver ported subwoofer (look at ZOD Maul design on data-bass for reference) but built down for the UM18-22 or equitably priced entry/mid level driver - so that the price of entry is palatable.
http://www.data-bass.com/data?page=system&id=131

Not sure if the motor is strong enough on the lesser expensive drivers to manage this type of build - but builds usually vary by the driver quality of course. Figuring the RF 19" driver is about 6dB better than the UM18-22. If one considers the ZOD Maul down 6dB --- the results would still be one of the most capable, powerful single box designs ever measured at data-bass --- and that's with $1k in the four UM18-22 drivers --- instead of $8K in four Rockford Fosgate 19" drivers.

The top red line is basically the ZOD Maul with four of the 19" RF in it.
The second line (blue) is a RF 19" in a sealed box
the third (purple) line is a UM18-22 in a sealed box.

Drop that top line by about 6dB and you still have an absolute BEAST subwoofer. (those measurements are all at 2m outdoors!)
