Chiefs aren't playing this weekend! I was rooting for them just so I didn't have to cancel this event to watch football! HAHAHA

I'm not worried about the Chiefs (Cowboys fan - had to ask my sister in law to schedule her daughter's bday party on the 14th). The Raiders/Texans game is probably the worst of the weekend, so missing 50 punts and just catching the 4th qtr doesn't sound too bad. Pencil me in for now.

The Hodor Theater - Now with Atmos
Projector - JVC D-ILA NX7; Receiver - Yamaha Adventage A3050
LCR speakers - JTR Noesis 228 HT (3); Surr./Back - Klipsch Pro Cinema KPT-8000M (4)
Atmos In-ceiling - Niles DS8HD (4); Subs - Passive JTR Captivator Pro (2)

Sure thing! I'm a Niner fan so amidst our turmoil I had to pay closer attention to the chiefs to not be depressed all season lol.

@kcnitro07 , I am in, is there anything I could bring say food or drink? Or is that not aloud in the theater? Depending on how the weather goes I could grill up something on my Green Egg if you like.

That would be depressing. The wife and I went to the Cowboys/9ers game in SF back in October. Good time.

Sure thing Randy.

Right now I have

I have seating for 6. Since I've already seen the movie and its my theater that I've enjoyed several times already and many m ore to come I'll sit on the floor or in a folding chair or something.

@Archaea
@Ladeback
@Randy Bessinger

@ChldsPlay - Penciled in

Room for 2 more for sure.

Waiting for confirmation

@d_c

Possibly coming early for demo

@JDontee
@Archaea (if his morning commitment falls through???)

As for food, I'll have dinner with my wife when I pick her up from work around 8ish so I don't need any food, but you're welcome to bring something to snack on. I have buttery popcorn and some chips I thinks. I'll pick up some drinks too, but you're welcome to bring your own as well.

The new lineup of JVC projectors was announced at CES yesterday. There are several improvements over current JVC projectors with the main ones being:
  1. Another 100 lumens of brightness per model with the same black level
  2. Automatic switching to a HDR user profile (vs just switching to HDR gamma)
  3. Improvement to eShift with 4K sources
  4. Low lag of ~40ms for gaming

I should have stock in Kansas City and Omaha by the end of January or beginning of February. MSRP is up by $5 per model. A DLA-RS520 or RS620 will probably be in use during the February 2017 KC Crawl.

Of course as soon as I splurge on a new JVC, they finally come out with a gaming mode. I don't really want to, but I might have to make the change just on that one specific feature....

Better wait for HDMI 2.1 with its support for Game Mode VRR (variable refresh rate). Game Mode VRR "enables a 3D graphics processor to display the image at the moment it is rendered for more fluid and better detailed gameplay, and for reducing or eliminating lag, stutter, and frame tearing."

Here comes the age old question - - Why don't we just arrive at one standard!?!

In the instance of the adaptive sync (frame rate sync) technologies
Take a representative from each of the major gaming companies, each of the major processing companies, each of the major display companies - then organize them on a committee like the UN --- or perhaps like the IEEE and release one standard - open source - for the benefit of all!

Too Utopian? I suppose....

VRR works with both G-Sync and FreeSync. Regarding why those are different, Nvidia developed G-Sync on its own and released it first. To be competitive, AMD developed FreeSync. During development, Nvidia obviously isn't going to invite its competitor to listen in on their engineers. How do they know anyone will even come up with something similar? Also, neither company knows if the market will accept the technology so there isn't any use in standardizing.

Why don't we standardize engines so everyone has the same engine and only one type of octane/fuel is needed at the pump - like E85 ethanol?

You can arrange those categories like this:
DisplayPort, FreeSync, DTS:X production software, HDR - Royalty Free
HDMI, G-Sync, Atmos production software, Dolby Vision - Royalties

A standard was attempted for Active 3D glass by Panasonic and others, but I don't know if it was ever implemented.

Since we have a little gtg tomorrow, if anyone local is interested in a couple of eminence beta 8 woofers, let me know. You can try before you buy. I did a little woofer swap experiment with my inwall speakers, and the xo point was just too high for them. They are the same woofers in the alchemy 8's, and similar to the woofers in the volt 8, cinema 8, and 88 special.

Since you didn't put this devastating news in the right thread - I must (happily) deny your request to bow out of the crawl.
Consider then, you are still summoned for the Feb 2017 KC Home Theater crawl, AND as further retribution for this near grievous mistake you are hereby required by binding and certain instruction --- (and for the betterment of the AV community at large) --- to bring @LTD02 with you.

Alright - man,

Who in Kansas City has a bluray burner on their PC besides Chldsplay and I?

I want to figure out why I can't merge Gravity 3d bluray video with Gravity Atmos bluray audio to play perfectly the whole length of the movie.

I've burnt probably close to a dozen 50GB disks in my attempts on this - and not figured it out yet - I have random glitches in different places with each disk I burn. Small glitches, big glitches, audio glitches, video glitches - just glitches. Some discs have a couple minor glitches, some have major glitches that stop the entire playback and lockup the player. NONE of my other blurays have this problem. This is weird recurring issue is unique to this project. I have ripped the retail disk on both the Atmos and the 3d disks separately. They never released one combined, so the enthusiasts have had to try to make their own. Some claim to have done it successfully -- I've failed.

The 3d video rip, and the atmos audio rip don't seem to have glitches alone - it's only after I combine them that I experience the problem.

I've used DVD FAB, and MakeMKV, and TSmuxor.

Chldsplay has also given it a go at my request, and encountered the same kinds of errors. I began to wonder if it's an HDMI bandwidth issue or maybe a PS4 playback bandwidth issue where this is too much information contained for the speed ability of either component --- and Kevin was going to test that with a fancy short cable and a different player, but that doesn't really explain why the glitches are always usique to each burn, but repeatable on that individual burn in the same place on the movie (all glitches random - recurring - and unique to that disk burn). It's almost like some sort of piracy protection that I haven't defeated. I'd buy the combined disk in a heartbeat if it was available. It's not. I have both 3d and Atmos 3d physical retail disks to start. I'd like to make a combined disk that works!

If someone else has a bluray burner and would give it a shot - let me know.

I think the bandwidth might be the issue as I had success splitting the audio and video with the 4k player for most of the disc I had from you, and didn't have any problems (for the part I watched - hard to rewatch the same 30 minutes after you just saw it) of the one I burned (which had the problems before). I don't know why nobody else would have mentioned this kind of issue, though.

E-mail incoming as an alternate notification means. Consider if you'd be willing to be a 'alternate host' for a single session on Sunday Feb 19 for the 2017 Home theater crawl. Figure 1 hour of demo time for each room.

I'm scheming that we'd have at least three alternate paths for those that stay into Sunday.
  1. A sighted, low key, subwoofer/speaker audition session at a hosts house (maybe vendor driven - where they can show their gear)
  2. A blind amplifier comparison - perhaps at my house
  3. A alternate home theater crawl path for those who just want to see more theaters over and above the 9 they saw on Friday and Saturday.

If anyone aside from the aforementioned people in this thread would be interested in demoing their theater room on Sunday for an hour please speak up. If we could get at least 4 volunteers for Sunday I think that'd be a pretty solid 3rd option.

It's almost like some sort of piracy protection that I haven't defeated. I'd buy the combined disk in a heartbeat if it was available. It's not. I have both 3d and Atmos 3d physical retail disks to start. I'd like to make a combined disk that works!
Can you not try loading the new combined ISO into a video player on your computer, and outputting that to your receiver? Play it via VLC? I think that does full blu-rays? Does it have glitches there?
