@carp , sorry to hear about the water issues. I remember dealing with that me duplex I now rent. I worry about it on our basement in we get a lot of rain and the power goes out. Were you able getting any water out of it with a shop vac?

That's why I think it may not be too bad, the shop vac didn't get much even with moving the carpent and trying to suck it straight out of the carpet pad with the shop vac.

On the other hand... the water was there for a whole week so that is really bad.

Good news is the smell is getting better and was never really bad...

Never had any rain water, this is the first water issue down here.

There is one in Lee's Summit too... just throwing that out there to complete the triangle!

Agreed. My neighbor gets water in his basement with every hard rain so I can't complain too much.

Yeah I live about 4 mins away from it and have been in it many times! I should just get a second job there (Free movie per day and cheap treats). Wish they had a program like AMC does. I would signup in a heartbeat.

I actually have yet to go see a movie in it. with 2 small kids it's often hard to get out and see a movie, but my 6 year old son really wants to go to one. Also, I remembered that LS actually has two of them, the first one by me on Doiglas and the new theater off of 150 I think.

Well after much deliberation I am going to build the DIYSG 1299’s for LCR and two mini Marty’s or two modified Johnny’s (BCRSS’s design) with 18’s. Been playing around with WinISD and some of the other spreadsheets out there. Still fingering out what is important but slowly am picking it up.

Really getting hooked on the DIY aspect.

Wish I had the woodworking skills of @d_c . But maybe I will by the time I’m done lol. Any chance @d_c that you would have time to help? . Going to be a fun few projects!

@blister64 is also going to be building 1299's as well now and either Volt 8's or 10's for surrounds. You guys ought to talk. He has become part of the KC area group. I like my old Klipsch towers and surrounds, but if I could sell them I might be interested in building 1299's or 1099's. Not sure the wife would understand. Good luck in the build.

@blister64 where do you live? I am in Lees Summit. I am about 1-1.5 months away from building these. Where are you in yours. Going through a divorce and once the x moves out. I have a tiling project to do then these. So I am thinking around the last week of September to early October. Getting my ducks in a row now.

I've got more projects for my basement as well (ongoing project) but want to get these done soon, so we'll see... we'll definitely need to discuss some things once we start building!

To paint, or not to paint? That is the question. I was hoping someone had some knowledge on these and what effect paint would have on their NRC.

With the small thickness of the panels , they will only be effective at treble/voice absorption. Painting will kill that and not be good for the NRC. What you could do is cover in acoustically transparent material. Burlap would be the cheapest.

That's what I was thinking. I'll probably try to find some cloth at Joann that matches my paint color. I like the color of my room, so I don't want to cover most of it up. Many were damaged, so I need to return those and I'll probably only keep a handful for areas in my room where space limited.

Now if only someone could organize a OC703 acoustic panel build party...

I used black burlap from there to cover pink fluffy in the rear wall of my room. When picking a material an easy test is if you can breath through the fabric, sound can pass through it. I have eight GIK 244 broadband bass panels on side walls, rear wall treated with pink fluffy, and my entire ceiling is a bass trap/absorption panel so no OC703 build parties for me.

If I had to do it again I would just build some side wall panels. At the time I just hit the easy button with GIK.

He has a great setup. Hosted me a few months back when I was looking at projectors and was very impressed with his theater. Learned a lot while there, very nice guy.

Echo that. Archaea's was the first theater I saw in KC around the beginning of the year and it did not disappoint. I still have the memory of the Interstellar takeoff scene seared in my brain with the acoustic treatments shaking off the walls. I can't do nearfield subs with my theater, but the goal is to have bass that comes *somewhat* close to that... Plus, I learned a few things about computers and video cards at his place. He's a great resource and very kind to do these demonstrations. When mine is done in a few months, I'll return the favor for anyone wanting to demo mine as well. My knowledge base isn't anywhere near most of you that post here, but I at least have a couple of guys that *do* know what they're doing helping with the design/build process, so it should have a good result.

I remember that night and the Interstellar clip was very cool and I don't have the base to come close to that or will have midfields, but have played it at home which made my wife say stop that you are shacking everything on the kitchen table and you are knocking the Elf on the Shelf off. Our son was about to come home and didn't want that happening when he came home. 8-18" subs is hard to beat unless you go to carp's or d_c's.

KDK12KDK1 you will beat me done on the theater. I am getting some estimates from GC's about finishing my basement and helping with the theater some. The wife will have the final call on cost as she wants at least 4 estimates. I think I have a final plan I will go with for it. I want to to go with the biggest screen as I can for the room. I look forward to seeing yours when it is done.

Klipsch KPS-400’s FR/FL with built in 15” 300 watt side firing subs, RC-7 Center, RS-3 Surrounds.
Integra DHC-60.5, 5- Marantz MA700 Mono Blocks, Pioneer DV-F727 301 Disk DVD CD Changer, Pioneer DVL-909 Laserdisc/DVD/CD Player, Sony PS3.

Hey guys! Been a while since i have visited this thread. I sold my Klipsch cinema speakers and am
Currently borrowing some fusion 15’s to try. They are nice and i was offered a good price to buy them
But they aren’t quite on the same level as what i had. So debating a Titan dual 15 build or maybe even going full bore in the 1899. Any of you guys heard either? I know there is a guy in Kansas with the 1899. Maybe i just need to drive a couple hours and go see them in person.
carp and sigma722 like this.

Hey man.

Any thoughts of going higher up the Klipsch pro audio line or do you have the DIY bug?

I'm a fan of high output/good extension mains so I say go all out and try the 1899's. Like you say though, you should demo some first if you an.

What do you currently have in the living room?

Only place to up in the cinema line is jubilees. While they are a great speaker that i can get a sweet price, they are super wide and require going full active. I don’t want to do that right now. Sold my diy stuff in the living room. Had some other Klipsch stuff for a bit. Sold it recently and am ordering the new release Klipsch stuff later this week. So for now a couple Svs cylinder subs and the Palladium bookshelves. Nothing crazy. Just temporary stuff. I also have three RF-7iii downstairs i was trying as LCR. They are sweet, and had i never heard any pro stuff that was hyper efficiencent i wouldn’t imagine wanting any more.
