Regarding your comments on the movies on deck. Yeah that is what I have read about Infinity Wars and the lackluster sound mix. Disney engineers have been failing miserably. It makes me think it is on purpose just to get the bit rate down for Disneys all powerful streaming service. They would much rather take your money every single month for the rest of your life than deliver good audio content and just take it once. I regret buying it on principle alone. I will find out how bad it is sometime. But first I need to watch...

Thor Ragnorok. I have this on UHD atmos and the word on the street is that it's one of the worst of the DULL and LIFELESS Disney tracks out there. Kind of like listening to someone talking in monotone. And turning up the volume does not all of a sudden make it into a good sound mix. I will find out shortly.....

So I just watched two really good ones.

Transformers Dark of the Moon. Just a stupid stupid show but DANG the audio was phenomenal and aggressive.

The Greatest Showman. WOW! Probably the best mix for a musical I have ever heard. I can't overhype how great it sounds. It actually brought a few tears to my eyes. If that doesn't get you guys to check it out then I don't know what will.

Also in the Atmos line up:

The Death Cure
San Andreas
Spiderman Homecoming
Lego Ninjago
XXX Return of "whatever"
Resident Evil The Final Chapter
Hans Zimmer Live in Prague

Not in Atmos but looking forward to:
Oz the Great and Powerful
Batman Ninja

Waiting patiently for prices to come down on some other UHD immersive titles like:

Ready Player One
Rampage
A Quiet Place

The sound was really good on ready player one. The movie is a bit juvenile, but I still had fun watching it. Soundtrack reminded me a bit of Tron Legacy with the clean 80s tracks.

I’ll agree that Infinity War had lackluster sound. Loki’s voice in particular at the beginning of the movie was really canned sounding to me.

Read Player One the Book, it is better then the movie, but most books are.

I completely forgot about everything at Doug's tonight.

I got busy trying to fix a stuttering issue on 4K content with my Zappiti. I think I finally got it, and ended up watching the last 30 minutes or so of Infinity War to test it. It didn't sound too bad to me, and I could have turned it up some more. It is definitely not bombastic, though. Big pillars falling from out of space should have been room shaking and they only offered some moderate rumble.

After that I started up The Greatest Showman, because I think I heard some of you say the opening was really good (I usually had tested out the concert by the redhead in the middle - which sounds amazing). I had to turn it off almost immediately when the foot stomping started because the baby was sleeping and I wasn't prepared for the bass to be that strong.

I didn't get any pictures of the speakers, but I believe @stitch1 did. They were in a Monoprice cabinet and looked nice. They really sounded good where ever you sat, but really best when sat in the middle of Doug's couch. They say about 11' apart of so with no tow in and was pretty incredible to me how balanced they were. We also listened to some the same music in Doug's living room to get a comparison of them and after Grant arrived we did some more comparing to BMR', JTR' 210's and Doug's home theater speakers. I liked them all, really liked the 210's the most, but the BMR' are more in my price range be and would be what I would get for two channel listening if I had a room set up and the cash. Doug's room lo ok and sounds incredible. If you get a chance to experience it I suggest anyone to take Doug up on seeing it. We watched Rampage and the 24" have me a nice massage when they would fire off and they did a lot in the movie. Oh, I almost forgot about the beer. The bourbon barrels ale went down very nice and will sneak up on you. I need to find that on Bigfoot have at home.

I would like to thank d_c, Doug for his hospitality and a great time and Average Joseph, Jeff for getting the speakers to the GTG. I really enjoyed the night listening and talking.

Thanks for letting me hang with you guys.
I think you guys are a bad influence, now I have theater envy and the beer was good as well.
I wonder how much Uber is to Saint Joe?
Seriously, Doug’s setup is awesome, if you get a chance to hear it I highly recommend you take advantage, sorry I didn’t stay for the movie but I did see a demo.
Thanks again, it was a pleasure meeting all of you.

It was a fun night and I really like those speakers. The Pink Floyd track had the best acoustic guitar reproduction I have heard so far. It sounded like the guitar was right there in the room and the soundstage was very impressive. They were a touch bright for my taste, but nothing that couldn't be EQ'ed down a hair, and they are soooo smooth. I prefer the vocals out of my JTR 210s still, but I could see myself having a pair of those coupled with a 15" sealed sub at the cabin. I've been wanting to upgrade the speakers I have there, but I will have to save my pennies for awhile longer.

Which Pink Floyd song are you referring to, d_c?

Not the best pic in the world. However, they do sound great! I think if I were in the market for a two channel setup for music these would be at the top of a very short list. Thanks again to Jeff and Doug for putting this on.

All - how often does parts-express runs sales? Looks like the um18-22’s are on sale for $275ea and thinking about picking up a pair for my sub build, but I am a couple of months out on building them. Anyone know the warranty on these? A little worried if I buy em now and not use them for a few months.

You think they have better and more often sales over the next few months?

Let me know. Thanks.

Not sure how often they are on sale, but they will probably have a coupon code available soon because of Labor Day. It seems like there is always some coupon code.

Black Friday has sales at Parts Express. You might save $100 off $1000 or $50 off $500 with a coupon code or something similar. That's IF the UM18-22 are in stock then. There are periods of time where they've been out of stock for months on end.

As a sort of bittersweet note, I agreed to sell nine of my Mackie C200 speakers today to a co-worker who's been telling me he wants to buy them for months.

He's been patiently waiting for me to make a decision on keeping the JBL or keeping the Mackie for nearly three months now.

Today he told me it was time to make a decision or he was going to use the 15% off ebay coupon and buy the speakers by EOD.

aghhh. My mentality was pretty much flip a coin. I like the JBL slightly better, my practical side said keep the Mackie.
In rarer form, my practical side bowed to whimsical side.

He picks them up Sunday.

$/performance - the Mackie C200 were off the chart, but I do like the JBL's sound a wee bit better, $3000 better? For a cheapskate like me? no.
But we all have our ways of justifying non-sensible purchases from time to time.

At any rate - I'm keeping the JBL CBT 70j-1's, so if you haven't heard them yet, you'll still have your chance.

I have four more Mackie C200 I need to sell, but I suspect I'll have no problem selling them on craigslist as they are a very popular entry/mid level Pro Audio speaker.

Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to mount them on the ceiling, and hook up the red AMC PRIME led lighting behind the tweeter arrays.

chirpie, carp, JDontee and 1 others like this.

Thanks! I found a $50 off of $500 coupon code on the web and it worked. I bought both for $$250 ea. with free shipping. Will be building the 1099's first though.

Would of liked to hear the Mackie's just to be able to compare, but those JBL's were amazing!! Yes! definitely get that prime lighting working. Will be awesome in your room.

I think I might finally make the jump to 4K early next year. It depends on how the reviews and pricing turn out on these new JVC's turn out. Probably the N5, but maybe the N7 depending on what kind of deal my friend can get me.

I think upgrading to to more atmos channels might hold off 2-3 more years.

The Hodor Theater - Now with Atmos
Projector - JVC D-ILA NX7; Receiver - Yamaha Adventage A3050
LCR speakers - JTR Noesis 228 HT (3); Surr./Back - Klipsch Pro Cinema KPT-8000M (4)
Atmos In-ceiling - Niles DS8HD (4); Subs - Passive JTR Captivator Pro (2)

I think I am still going to wait one more year. If I am going to spend that kind of money I am going to wait for HDMI 2.1 to become standard.

But I will say these new projectors are getting pretty tempting.

I would probably wait, but since I buy only UHDs now, I want to watch them properly and not on a 1080p display where the color is off (sure it can be adjusted to be close to normal, but it's still off). I'm not sure 2.1 will make enough difference to wait another year. And that's assuming it is even there in another year. It's possible it could be the end of 2020 before that's an option.

Yeah, that's a pretty good reason to upgrade. My fear is that I would want the variable framerate feature of the 2.1 spec. I'm thinking this will be a nice addition to the next gen gaming systems. I wouldn't want to be one year off of a feature I am pretty sure I would want.

On the other hand I can totally see where you are coming from. I have the same Panasonic that you have and while it's nice, it's not nearly as nice as some of these newer units.
