Guys, I hate it, but something has come up and I’m going to have to cancel. Looks like a good movie choice but I will have to catch it and your new speakers, Joanthan, another time.

Luke, all I know is that I went to see Captain Marvel last night with my wife and kids and I was so bored. Worst Marvel/Avengers/whatever movie I have seen by a wide margin, I'm not sure what the 2nd worst would be because it's not close.

I should have been all happy too, I had a couple beers and a cheeseburger with fries (both great at B&B) but I kept checking my watch. I know these aren't comedies exactly, but it was odd to be watching a Marvel movie and not hear a single chuckle the entire movie from a packed theater.

They are smart to release Endgame so soon because it forces us to go to the theater to watch Captain Marvel in case there is info we would want to see before seeing Endgame.

What time tonight Jonathan?

Kansas City Area Home Theater Meets and Movie Night Events!

Megan’s making some home made apple crisp with the my daughters for tonight. We’ll serve it with vanilla ice cream.

For those of you with early plans that can’t make the start at 7pm, you are still welcome to come late if it works. We may end up watching a couple movies, or just enjoy visiting.

Looks like right now it might be @carp and @Luke Kamp because of the schedule conflicts that arose. I’ll schedule another night say six months down the road for those who can’t make this one — or want more apple crisp.

Unbeknownst to tonights attendees Jon has procured a special extended edition of Captain Marvel to be shown in its entirety (estimated run time 3.5 hrs)!
Counselors will be available on site to discuss your feelings about the script immediately following the film!
Enjoy the show!!!!!

I watched Harry Potter 6 last night. Just the first half since I'm really old. I have been raving about the DTS:X mixes on these films and this is another winner. The opening scene is truly demo worthy. There are a group of death eaters flying on brooms and the way the engineers make them woosh right through the room is startlingly good and utterly convincing!

Kansas City Area Home Theater Meets and Movie Night Events!

Free Solo is absolutely a fantastic movie. I loved it and woke up thinking about it. I told my wife about it this morning and showed her a clip, how can anyone not be amazed at this guy?

Imagine climbing this without ropes or support gear! (He obviously trained and mastered his route with ropes)

Great Movie! I highly recommend it, and some of his YouTube interviews to go along with it.

Sheldon and I laughed in that we are both afraid to get on our roofs. Some of the stuff in that movie — hand holds and foot holds on that vertical 3,200 foot climb just didn’t seem humanly possible. It’s a level of athleticism I’ve never seen before. Truly a real life spiderman! Amazing!

The second movie we watched was The Last Starfighter. Luke loved it as a kid and Sheldon saw it years ago. Luke brought it over and suggested it as our encore. I’d never watched it, so we all agreed we’d give it a go.

It was laughably horrible, or maybe it just hasn’t aged well and if I’d seen it as a youngster I’d have appreciated it more? Luke, no offense meant!

It was updated to surround sound for its BluRay debut, and by that I mean I noticed like twice in the movie when a sound came out of something other than the center channel speaker. We quickly jointly transformed that viewing experience into a Mystery Science Theater live commentary and shared some laughs.

I enjoyed the hangout time last night. You two are a lot of fun. Thanks for the visit, Sheldon and Luke.

The last Starfighter, I remember that movie and going to see it a commercial theater when I was in college. I found it funny and am a scifi geek and at the time we didn't know what better CGI was till years later since this came out in 84. It was a fun date night movie at the time though.

I loved The Last Starfighter as a kid, but yeah, it's one of those 80's movies that is objectively bad and only holds up with an extreme dosage of nostalgia. But that's okay.

Did you rent the bluray of Free Solo? I tried to add it to my Netflix queue, but they only have the DVD.

The Hodor Theater - Now with Atmos
Projector - JVC D-ILA NX7; Receiver - Yamaha Adventage A3050
LCR speakers - JTR Noesis 228 HT (3); Surr./Back - Klipsch Pro Cinema KPT-8000M (4)
Atmos In-ceiling - Niles DS8HD (4); Subs - Passive JTR Captivator Pro (2)

Rented the HD version from Amazon Prime. This is one I’ll buy in the future though.

I noticed the other day at one of our Red Box locations that it said 4K UHD on the top, but I have not been able to find any desk in either of the two boxes that 4K. I can't watch them since I don't gave a 4K TV or projector, but was wondering if anyone has been able to get a 4K DVD from RB yet in town? May push me to get 4K sooner.

Everytime I think about him going throught the "boulder problem" section of the climb my hands start immediately sweating. GREAT movie. Scariest movie I have ever seen.

The Last Starfighter is hilarious for some mystery science theater (why are they both working over that table?!?!?!) and many other lines. It was awful, but I was so much more entertained by it than CM.

As always I had a great time and didn't mind getting home at something like 1:30.

I should add that we did some demo's before the movies and I love the JBL speakers. The surround field in Jonathan's room is the best I've ever heard if you take The Savoy out of the eqauation.

Yep, at my first official GTG up in northern Wisconsin...still had Axiom speakers back then!

Watched Aquaman this weekend....holy Bass! From a total bass perspective, I'm not sure what movie beats it for the amount of constant LFE throughout a whole movie. Seemed like the S2's were thumping the whole movie.

@sigma722 , how's your theater build coming along. Weren't you going with the DIY 1099's for the front?

Why you gotta hurt me like that?

My build has basically been on hold for a year. I have lots of excuses including my new car, random weekend trips, Fortnite, other games, etc. I've been out of the country the last 3 weeks on vacation, and was planning on getting back to it last thursday/friday, but subsequently got hit with a cold upon my return. So once I'm done with that cold, hopefully I resume progress, it's been a long time coming.

Yes I have 3 1099s, will be running Volt 10s for surrounds, and volt 6 for atmos. Subs are 2 full martys. 1099s and Martys are done, Volt 10s need baffles cut, volt 6s will be probably custom, so haven't even really started, besides doing the XOs.

I understand completely. I have been off for three weeks on medical leave, but back at it now. I need to get serious and figure out my HVAC. I need to put together a spread sheet on how I want to progress, but the HVAC and bathroom need to be priority.

On Fortnite, my son is addicted to that game. Doesn't play many others, but at least plays soccer to get him and me out of the house.

I would like to see the 1099's some time.

I was able to get pretty good seats at the Liberty B&B Theater in row F seats 9 and 10 on Saturday at 6:30 pm. This is their Grand Screen 2 with DTS-X surround sound. Nice having a new theater near us now.

Klipsch KPS-400’s FR/FL with built in 15” 300 watt side firing subs, RC-7 Center, RS-3 Surrounds.
Integra DHC-60.5, 5- Marantz MA700 Mono Blocks, Pioneer DV-F727 301 Disk DVD CD Changer, Pioneer DVL-909 Laserdisc/DVD/CD Player, Sony PS3.

I was up at 6:30 in preparation. Barrywood's tickets released at 6:44 and I snagged a couple to the Dolby (7:00) as a backup plan. A few minutes later Olathe went live and I got my preferred seats in the Dolby (6:00). Then I cancelled the Barrywoods order. A few minutes later the site was crashing.

As a precaution, I went to the theater to print my tickets on my way to work.

They're for the first Thursday night showing (not counting the fan event).

I just tried to get into AMC now to see if it would work and it is still not working. Glad I got mine when I did at B&B.
