Alright! I have talked it over with the boss I mean wife... Wait scratch that, I was right the first time. We can host a get together but it can't happen until after the holidays. I had brought up the idea of February and that seems to be a good time frame for us as well. We will have to work out the details once we get closer to the event.

Mark Seaton was on Home Theater Geeks with Scott Wilkinson tonight. I think it is still uploading now, but for those of you that haven't met Mark, he is very interesting to listen to.

I'm trying to convince stitch1 to buy 7 of the full range Polk RTI12 speakers ($300 each on closeout at Frys, $700 at amazon, $900 retail) and commission d_c to build him a pair of gjallarhorns.

Tim has to be a contestant for the most patient speaker acquisition process award. Ever since I've known him he's been unsatisfied with his current setup, but never moves towards a new one. The good thing about the Polks is you could probably unload them on craigslist used if they didn't meet your expectations and lose no money.

That's a heck of a matched 7 speaker surround setup for somewhere between $4-5k. Cross over to g-horns at 50 or 60hz to avoid the first modal ringing point of the horn design.

real wood veneers....tim....

real wood veneers. biggrin.gif

LMAO!!!! biggrin.giftongue.gifcool.gifbiggrin.giftongue.gif

It's easy to be patient when you are (slowly) building a theater. If I buy things now I would be taking away from my build funds and there is always something better and cheaper just around the corner. Also, there is no way I could fit seven of those towers into my room. There’s just no way no how. It's not going to happen. Real wood veneers or not. They are just too big. I am not even sure where I would keep them while I finish my room. confused.gif We all know that I enjoy the sweet sounds from the JTR line and I'm pretty sure that is what I will be placing in my room. So as long a Jeff stays in business then I don't need to worry about where my next set of speakers will coming from.

Now if there was a really good deal on a high end sub, I might be interested. But there is no reason to upgrade my speakers until the new theater is finished.

Also, your logic about selling them on craigslist if VERY flawed. First nobody wants towers anymore. Ok a few people do but they are not the ones that buy stuff from CL. Second who do I sell 7 of these to? Sure I could sell two, maybe even four, but there are only a few people that have the room to use a tower for a center and we know most of them because of AVS.

Now, don't get me wrong. Almost all you guys have better setups then I do. However, I when commit to buying something I try to buy for the long haul. Yes, the Polks are a good deal. But short term gain is not really my style. My SVS is showing some real value at this point. Since, knowing you, you have owned 3 different sets of mains. Knowing my speakers limitations I have been pretty happy with them over the years. I am also about to get into REW to see if I can get more performance out of them and my room.

I was going to say that if you really wanted to get me a christmas gift this year... However, I still couldn't use these. biggrin.gif

Now before everyone starts thinking we are attacking each other. Please take both of our post with a grain of salt.

Yes jonathon is a very bad influence. He once got me to buy a pair of shoes without even trying them on! But I have to admit it was a screaming good deal.

You could buy just the front three and for under 1000 bucks. Selling an upright center would be difficult though.

Yeah, if you look under my user name it says "Must Resist" I put that up there after I heard the 228's or the S2.. whichever I heard first. That's because I have to focus on the theater build first. I would rather get my room done then get all the latest and greatest at that time. I have seen some awesome deals come and go. Like on projectors and speakers and so on. But each time, I know that the newer model is an upgrade and at some point it too will go on sale. As the old saying goes, "good things come to those who wait."

I know Jonathan is just messing with me and is tempted himself to buy these speakers. I know the value of a good deal but these would never work out for me.

Now if Jonathan wants to sell his 228's so he can get these for his own room....rolleyes.gif I really shouldn't talk like that.

I think Jonathon and I are going to go see the new Hobbit movie at the already updated Dolby Atmos theater Monday if anyone interested. We haven't discussed showtime but would be 7:00 or 10:30 showtime. They have changed the theater from etx to the first amc prime.

How is AMC Prime different? We’re glad you asked…

Recliner chairs that have subwoofers integrated into them so guests can “feel” the action they see on-screen
Dolby Atmos sound technology and JBL speakers surround guests on all sides for a world-class, immersive audio experience
A specialized screen that enhances the visual beauty of every film seen in an AMC Prime auditorium

Seems they changed seats, speakers, and screen so thought we could check it out.

Always interested in hanging out at the gtg's and checking out different gear.

I'm free most nights with a bit of lead time to ask the wife aside from tuesday, and wednesday. Next Monday works find for me, which was Luke's invite night.

I do want to check out the new Atmos setup. I didn't end up going last Friday night because I didn't have anyone take me up on my offer to meet there. Something feels really sad about going to the public theater by one's self.

carp does next monday night not work for you?

No, I can't do weeknights unless I'm on a break which starts the 20th. Weekends are always good. However, don't let me hold you guys up.

Monday would be tough. Something a little later in the week is better. Weekends better overall. After 8 pm is ideal. Will make it if I can.

The Dolby Atmos theater (also known as AMC Prime) is in Barry Woods 24. But as far as I know it's the best theater experience in town, and one of the best theaters in the country with the Dolby Atmos sound which is currently limited to just a handful of theaters across the nation, until more theaters are retrofitted with the new tech.

I have a 'lot' of physical DVDs to sell. I'd rather just sell these to someone local to avoid shipping them. There are 87. Here is the link.
https://www.avsforum.com/t/1505650/wts-physical-dvd-lot

At $75 bucks for 87 movies - it's some cheap winter entertainment and you can throw anything you don't want away without feeling too bad.

Okay, I think we can start talking about what days work for the most folks to come check out the room.

I still need to do all of the calibration. Have not touched that yet.

And I am clueless about how to set up the Insteon stuff and the iRule too.

I can seat 7. I don't know how many people are interested or how many will end up coming at the same time. I am sure there will be lots of dates that won't work since we are close to Christmas. This Saturday evening and Sunday is booked already for me. If it will be during the week then it has to be after 8. Weekends are hit and miss so we will just have to see. I have week off the end of December/first of January.

I am going tonight and either showing is fine. It seems like others are leaning toward late show? Thats fine with me.

Tonight is pretty much the only night I have until next year to get out.
