Sounds like a great idea. Couple of songs I would suggest as well that I think are pretty cool for demo material with subs and some even for speakers would be:

Gemini: Blue
Bliss: Song for Olabi
The Bass Will Destroy You
Daft Punk: Solar Sailer
Got 2 Know
Chainsmokers: Roses

Really anxious to hear the drum demo from Shefield...I've been wanting to get that. Will anyone be bringing Fusion 8 speakers? I'd love to hear a set of those.

I could bring my fusion 8s. They are not the generic kit though. I built towers and modded the XO slightly. Not the best looking cabs I've built, but passable for a game room.

Cool. Why did you modify the crossover? Are they not designed well or was it necessary for the tower configuration?

Not necessary at all to mod the XO. I just like to fiddle around. I only changed the resistor that pads down the compression driver to get a little brighter sound. The stock setup is pretty laid back. They sound good either way.

The towers will obviously have a little more bass than the bookshelves but they're still nowhere near full range speakers. I only made towers so I wouldn't need stands. I xo at 100hz either way.

Hi all. I just stumbled on this doing some research on my HT build and would greatly appreciate some expert imput. I just bought a house in cranberry and it came with a great open unfinished basement. I don't have much to offer in the way of equipment. I have an older velodyne and a sunfire that has recently decided to work when it feels like it.

I'm in the market for basically everything and it's hard to figure by reading online what something might sound like. This gtg might be exactly what the dr ordered. I don't want to upset the apple cart but would appreciate the opportunity to listen in.

My unfinished basement is about 1400sq ft so I have the space for possibly a future gtg. I'm itching to get the space booming.

Man this looks like a great event. Would be worth the drive from Maryland, but I should be in North Carolina that weekend picking up a pair of JBL subs. Perhaps I can make the next go around. I have 4 Pi speakers and DIY coaxial surrounds.

I ripped some clips today off of my Blu Rays and DVD's this evening and made a playlist on my HTPC. Was testing them out trying to figure what to keep and what to remove. Got a text from my wife that I woke her up and that I need to turn it down

I will post the list of clips and songs I am planning on using this weekend.

It sounds like we will have at least 4 subs (triax, S2, Cap 1400, DIY SI HST) and maybe 5 (PSA V1800). I am trying to figure out how long the playlist should be. I don't think we want much more than 20 minutes but I could be wrong.

Any thoughts?

Ok - the GTG is going to be on Sunday March 20th from 11am until ???.

In addition to JTR, I have also contacted Reaction Audio to see if they would like to send any subs.

Jeff Nordi (Ahblaza) can you contact Tom or Jim Power Sound Audio to see if they would like to send something (if not, I can)? A V3600 would be a good sub to listen to along side the Captivator 1400!

Everyone who plans to attend, please email me at (removed) and I will respond with my address and phone number. Also please include your real and AVS name in the email.

Thanks, only 19 days away!

Hi Ray. Thanks! I might try to stop by to meet a few local enthusiasts. I'm not interested in sub-woofers necessarily (or loud sound). Will drop you a line.

Do we need to bring anything? Or will you collect some cash to cover refreshments? What about food? Should we eat before we get there or will there be food?

Good question.

I guess we could order pizza/sandwiches maybe everyone pitch in $8-$10 to cover everything.

Maybe someone could brings drinks/beer if they wanted.

I know some of the bigger GTG's they charge $50 each and get a whole big spread but I don't want to go that all out. I would imagine a good check of the $50 covers alcohol. I don't plan on getting any but anyone who wants any is welcome to bring some.

No problem

Jeff from JTR is going to bring the Captivator 118HT and the Captivator S2 to the get together.

Here is a link to the 118HT product page

I have ripped about 40 bass scenes from blu-ray over the past week or so. Total time is probably pushing 1.5 hours - obviously too much. I want to have about an 75/25 split with movies to music to test the subs with. How long should each sub testing be?

We will have the following subs:

Power Sound Audio Triax
JTR Captivator S2
Power Sound Audio V1800
JTR Captivator 118
SI-18 HST in 4cf box

We could also run the clips through my system first (4 Triax's) before it gets torn down as nothing will be the same after the GTG.

Is 30 minutes worth of combined clips enough or should it be more? If we did 20-22 minutes of movie clips and then 8-10 minutes of music would that work? That would probably give us about 8-10 movie clips and 2-3 songs. I am up for extending it, but I also don't want it to get boring. If we have 30 minutes of clips that is 2.5 hours for the subs running and another 30 if we demo my system before it is taken apart. That is 3 hours not counting any time so setup in between. I imagine it is going to take 10-15 minutes between subs - that brings the total up to about 4 hours.

I am open to suggestions!!

I can post a list of the movie clips so we can whittle it down to the best of the best for the playlist. We could always add them as the GTG is going on too. I will be running them all through a HTPC.

Thanks
Ray

JTR (3 215 RT, 5 212HTR, 2 Growlers, 4 S2's)
PSA (4 Triax's, 3 210T's)

how are you clipping them? the only tool I know of to do it is MKV Merge, and that takes forever since it writes the entire film.
