The wife picked up a cheater plug, but I'm not expecting that to change things. I'll also try plugging it into my surge protector/conditioner, just as a test. If both of those fail, I'll contact Monoprice. Some of the guys in that thread recommended the Emotiva CMX-2 for preventing amp hum. It's not cheap, but if it would work, it would be worth it.

Scott, I experienced the same thing in the past for sub amps. I purchased a device from jensen that seemed to work well for the issue. It was not inexpensive, but perhaps it may resolve the issue?

For sale: Oppo 203 UHD player; 2 Mackie c300z speakers, Tag Mclaren av32r preamplifier

Yeah, the hum is coming from the amp, not the speakers.

Can you PM me the info? I'll take a look at it to see if it would help.

I'll try to troubleshoot with the cheater plug this weekend.

I am looking for some thoughts and opinions on this? https://m.imgur.com/a/MSmya8V

John has not finished up the design just yet, I have not committed to it. I was thinking it would be nice for keeping the driver out of reach of toddlers. The screen can be lowered and the gains in efficiency should equal less distortion.

Dark gray bandpass horn, light gray ported.

My updates include that the room is painted. I procured a brad nailer for the trim. 2 nearfield subs are done. There is no need for 4 large enclosures so I'm only going to keep 2. The MBM's have a nasty ground loop hum that I may have to buy a cleanbox to clean up. Remounted my projector screen yesterday and a new projector mount has been ordered. The end game is near.

It most definitely would keep the driver away from prying hands. Also the ability to lower the screen to just above the top of the port opening would be a substantial benefit if you ever go for a large AT screen in the future.

That is great news. Nice to hear about the updates some of our members are making!

Although... I'm sure Alex will be saddened to hear you are stopping at 2 nearfield.

Are you able to remove the AMP from the system easily?

If so, try taking just the AMP to another location in the home with only the power cable and plug it in and turn it on with nothing else connected. No speaker wire, no XLR inputs, no RCA inputs.

If the Hum persists even when doing that, see if you can send back for a warranty repair or replacement.

Haha! 2 NF are no joke. I couldn't imagine needing 4 NF although it could be fun.

So I decided to get a Sony VPL-HW40ES as a temp projector until my JVC DLA-NX7 comes in. Got delayed for an undisclosed reason

But its better to have a great working product than rush something out with major flaws.

I will be keeping the Sony as a permanent backup for when I do my yearly projector upgrade and would otherwise be without a projector for a month or so during the transition time.

Where'd you get those black pillow/cushions on the headrests? In my front rows the chairs do not have power headrests so I'm looking for something similar, but nothing is low profile enough.

It’s still a fantastic projector. It’s not JVC RS540 level that I had prior but it gets the job done.

I think the Emotiva RMC-1 has converted Alex from a Emotiva doubter to and Emotiva believer.

It still has its fair share of issues with HDMI and locking onto sources, but it is exceedingly fantastic at doing its job, which is being a immersive sound surround processor.

Personally, it may very well be the best sounding processor I have ever heard for home theater multi channel audio. There seems to be a special secret sauce to how it routes and processes sound to each channel. Every thing was just easier to place in a 3D space around you than I had been used too, even with something such as Alex's prior Marantz 8805.

I wasn't able to stay long enough to hear the improvements Mark Seaton was able to pull out of the RMC-1 but the initial impressions were fantastic.

Very interesting. I remember many years ago various Emotiva processor/AVRs with issues.
I'm still using a legacy flagship Denon AVR (Denon 5308CI) but with Emotiva XPA-3 gen1 amps. I have a lot of other Emotiva products. My son just took my old (large) office setup with Emotiva 2 channel for headphone (and tape deck!) use.

The RMC-1 will make it into my system sometime after they release Dirac Live 2.0 for the unit. I am excited at the prospect of what it might bring to my system at that time.

So I am planning the "Final" Chapter of my theater for 1H 2019.

"Final" chapter hopefully will include:

Sub positioning for best sub placement
Speaker positioning for the best left and right placement
D-Box on the front three chairs
Baffle wall stretching floor to ceiling and wall to wall, in the front and back of the theater
JVC DILA-N7 True 2160P Projector
Emotiva RMC-1 with Dirac Live 2.0
Mark Seaton Calibration.

Then just the standard yearly projector upgrades till technology drastically changes once again.

Wish me luck!

Group FYI:

pennynike1 and I had recently been informed of a limitation in some Atmos titles and have now personally tested that not all Atmos tracks are enabled with Atmos objects to enable all your avail speakers.

Disney currently is the culprit with some titles in a pre-baked 7.1.4.

***On the back of the Moive Slip Covers***

If you see:

"Dolby Atmos 7.1.4" it is a pre-backed track and you will not get anything greater than 7.1.4

If you see:

"Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible)" then it should be the real Atmos with objects enabled 9.1.6 or greater.

This really hacks me off, and thanks for the head's up.

It's very reminiscent of the old HD-Lite battles that we had in the early days of HD, where the cable and satellite companies were purposefully downgrading HD signals to less than HD resolution before sending them out to customers. We ended up losing that battle, and I'm afraid that we'll lose this one too.

The average consumer doesn't care enough for it to make a difference. What I don't get is why Dolby allows it. You would think that they would have some control over how their licensees use and advertise their product standards.

By limiting the Atmos format to just 7.1.4, it's no longer Atmos, it's just Dolby Digital in an Atmos container, totally cheapening the advertised benefits of the product. While most us may never decide to have more than 11 speakers in our theater, this is a really hinderance to anyone wanting to do it. What a great way to kill of interest in the format.

Scott

New updates:

As you guys know, I sold away my calibrated Marantz 8805 in anticipation of getting the new Emotiva RMC-1. I counted down the days until I could get the RMC-1. I was one of the lucky ones to score the RMC-1 the day of release, but at the same time, I had another 8805 delivered to my door. I opted to sell my 8805 for a second time and opened up the Emotiva RMC-1 last weekend and took the plunge! I am so extremely happy that I did so!!

I began setting up the Emotiva Saturday night and Tony came over on Sunday as we finished the initial set-up prior to a pre-arranged calibration with @Mark Seaton . Even prior to our Mark's arrival, I could tell that the Emotiva was something special! The Matrix scenes and Dolby Atmos trailer demos seemed to have added detail compared to what I recalled hearing from my Tag McLaren and my Marantz processors. I went from being leary of the what Emotiva had released to being ultra excited in anticipation of Mark's arrival on Sunday!

After spending nearly 9 hours with Mark on Sunday, excitement for me is at an all-time high ! The front seats have been pushed back an extra foot, the projector and projector stand/rack has been pushed back behind the curtains, the rear speakers have been pushed back to curtains entrance, and Mark has adjusted the system to his precise preferences following a series of listening sessions.

I now have the following modes:

1) The "Official" Mark Seaton-Approved Mode (i.e. Formerly Guest Mode);
2) Alex Mode;
3) Excess Mode.

I am excited to get people's impressions for the next GTG. By spring of next year, I will aim to accomplish the following:

1) Hopefully get my JVC NX9 (which has been indefinitely delayed by JVC);
2) Get the Seaton Sparks ceiling mounted for 9.1.6 Dolby Atmos (once the brackets become available);
3) Purchase more Seaton surround speakers (as funds become available);
4) Insulate the rear of the theater with Rockwool.

Exciting times!!

For sale: Oppo 203 UHD player; 2 Mackie c300z speakers, Tag Mclaren av32r preamplifier

I was reading up on the Sony and the consensus seems to be that the picture is darn near perfect out of the box. Did you have to make many adjustments?

Not much at all.

Selected Cinema Film 1 profile
I turned down Reality Creation to Minimum on Resolution / Noise Filtering
Turned NR Off (Noise Reduction)
Lowered the brightness about two clicks for some extra pop. (Since the Oppo crushes blacks doing HDR to SDR anyhow.)

I was happy to see it is not every Disney movie.

example: The last Avengers movie was the true object based Atmos.
