Great looking room @mercracing .

In my previous room I had an 100" Screen Innovation Zero Edge Pure White screen with the LED kit. It was awesome. The bias lighting really helps with eye strain and adds a cool factor. I did a lot of research on the bias lighting and found 6000K (pure white) LED lights with a dark grey front wall is the best. If you already have a screen you can easily add LED lights. I've done this with a few friends screens. If you want more details, let me know and I'd be happy to share how it was done and link to the products.

P.S. If you have a SI screen, chances are the screen already has a channel for the LED lights. So adding LED lights is really simply and can be done for hundreds less than what SI charges for their LED kit. If you don't have an SI screen but want an SI screen, I have a SI Series 5 Zero Edge 16:9 120" Slate screen I'd be willing to sell for $1500. I also have a SI Series 5 Zero Edge 2.35:1 120" Slate screen I'd be willing to sell for $1000. Both have their original boxes. I had an opportunity to buy them at a steal of a deal and but now I need an acoustically transparent screen with my latest build.

I think bias lighting can be a cool "effect" lighting.
I just watched a movie last night with my son after working on computer screens all day.
Computers strain my eyes but not my HT room. I've never thought that was an issue I needed to address.

Anyone else going to Axpona this year? Would be a nice starting place to meet up for some of us.

I was hoping to make it to Axponia on Saturday... but it's overlaps with the starting weekend of my other hobby, autocross. I do agree that meeting up at one of these events for Wisconsin members would be fun.

Nice to see a fellow JTR owner. Welcome to the group.

I'm trying to get Jeff to do one or more movie nights so we can all meet at a neutral location and get to know each other in person. Plus it would be free advertising for JTR as well.

Mark Seaton, if you have a generalized area in the warehouse or demo room where people can meet for a GTG we would take you up on the offer as well.

As of right now the best place for a meet in the short term is Axpona.

As far as a large TV vs projection that will depend on your room and viewing/using habits.

Do you game? Is it 100% light controlled?

Welcome to the forum! Also Welcome to the thread.

Too all who are going. We can all meet up at the JTR booth.
Then go back and forth between Seaton and JTR as they battle it out for our ear drums!

Ill likely put on a “my name is: SOWK” sticker lol

I'd like to go to Axpona, but can't commit at this time.

But I really like the idea of Jeff hosting another JTR movie event, if he'd be willing. I wasn't able to make it to last year's, but it sounded like a lot of fun. And it's a bit closer than Schaumburg for an initial meet up.

Thanks I am considering upgrading to a 2400 tall or 4000 flat or adding another 1400. Your JTR lineup definitely makes me jealous.

Room is currently 14x24x9 and our living room, viewing is mostly movie 80% with gaming 15% and then regular TV on the tail end 5% (at best) It isn't 100% light controlled but I do have room darkening window curtains.

As far as picture quality, a TV will provide the best in your environment, offering along with that, the best gaming latency and longevity (No Bulbs/No Warm up time)

But from an immersive perspective, Front Projection can't be beat.

But I would consider a 75-78" or greater TV for your needs.

If you know for a fact you would be disappointed in the long run with a screen that size then front projection is the best way to get it at an affordable price.

Well the wife informs that 75 is not happening, i could do a 65 or go with the projector route and have a drop down screen to come over the tv that is currently on the wall and use the tv on the wall for gaming and tv watching.

Then go the projector route and don't waste your money on a higher end JVC like the 540 or 640 over something like the 440 as you wont be able to take full advantage of the differences anyhow. (If you were to get JVC obviously)

Is optoma <---spelt correct? a good route to go on a budget? I would like to stay under the $2,000 mark with screen and projector if possible.

I think we did as well, RED FIVE was with me as well and another friend who isn't on here. Perhaps more of us did meet, I did introduce myself to a lot of people there as did my friends.

Well your wife is blocking you lol

For under $2000 Sony 45ES is my top choice for Front Projection on a budget.

Tony has finally coaxed me out of the weeds. Been a long time member but don't post a heck of a lot. I am selling my Marantz 7702MK2. Ad is here: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/209-au...i-pre-pro.html

I spend most of my time building, then rebuilding my space to ever improve it. I'm on the third iteration in 10 years...roughly. Next time it will be perfect! :-)

9.2.4 || Processor: Denon AVR-X3600H || Amps: Emotiva BasX A-300
Speakers: PSA MTM-210 LCR, BA VSi 593 IW Surround-Wide, BA VSi 560 IC Tops
Subs: Seaton Submersive F2+Slave Front

Does 11:00 AM Saturday sound good for the members going to Axpona to meet at the JTR Booth?

I can hand out name tags as well, so we can put a face to the forum names.

Figure we can do a demo visit of each of the three major Home Theater Players on the show floor.

JTR Speakers, Seaton Sound, and Emotiva. Then hang out and talk about each after.

Madison-area checking in!

Hi, all! I'm in the process of building a house in Sun Prairie, WI set for completion in late June, and will have a media room in my finished basement. I've never had the opportunity to have a room that I can dedicate solely to this kind of thing, so I'm pretty excited! Been eyeing up various 4K projectors with the almost-exclusive purpose of doing 4K gaming with PS4 Pro and PC. Would anyone in the area happen to have the JVC DLA-RS540U or the Sony VPL-VW385ES? I've wanted to compare both, considering they both have their merits, and from my admittedly little bit of research, I can't really seem to find a good home theater showroom near Madison that would have these kinds of things on display.

I've got a Marantz SR5010 currently, despite its bizarre behavior, and a set of 7.1 Polk speakers and subwoofer, but will likely be replacing these when my low-voltage contractor comes in. Not sure if I should go with in-wall speakers or keep stuff mounted to the walls themselves and was hoping for suggestions on that front.

Anyway - I'm barely scratching the surface of everything home theater-related and would love to get a better idea of things for when I need to start spending money. Nice to meet you all!

If your room is a batcave, the JVC would probably be recommended for the superior contrast. If it's not a cave though, then there may be more to consider such as the room detail and the screen size and material.

Who is your low voltage contractor? In general, the recommendation is in-wall or in-ceiling as a last resort. Of course, again depending on the space (or the wife), these may be the best option.
