Not everyone has enough patience for a HTPC, and that is fully understandable.

I was trying to get there too!

Eventually I think most in the end just want things that are going to work out of the box.

If I didn’t need the HDR Tone Mapping of MadVR I would be staying on my Oppo/JVC.

I do actually think the new JVC’s would work for ~80% with no need for anything else. Alex and I just happen to be in the latter 20% category.

Hello everybody!

I would like to throw my hat into the ring. I don't have the theater room quiet like some of you but it gets the job done. I actually found this page while searching for JTR speakers. I am hoping someday to build a custom theater with JTR or similar speakers. Currently my theater room is more of a media room

My current setup is the following:
2016 Vizio P-75
Denon X4200W
SVS MTS-02 (L/R), MCS-02, SSS-01 (side surrounds), B&W 663 in-ceiling for Atmos
SVS SB-13 Ultra
Sony UBP-X700

I want to add an external amp so I can go to 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 but I don't really have a back wall so I could configure it either way with in-ceiling speakers.

What is the best way to post pictures? I will attach an old one, need to take some new ones.

Troy from Madison

I do have a stupidly low priced for sale thread for my 2015 212HT speakers with stands avail for $2000. That's $1000 a speaker, and I think that is just giving them away for how good they sound!

Let me know if you have any interest.

Also your Media room looks dedicated so its not that far off from being a home theater.

It looks very nice and I like the first reflection absorption design.

Best way to post pictures depends on the device you are running AVSFoum on.

On desktop, they offer drag and drop

on enhanced mobile view there is an upload button

on mobile view you need to click the manage attachments button and upload that way.

Agree
Easy updates could include:
- adding dimming plastic over AVR et lights
- dark carpet
- dark walls/ceiling

I used to have a similar carpet in HT room and a dark carpet really improved things.

HT: Oppo UDP-203 -> Lumagen RadiancePro 4446 {18 GHz input x2 & 18 GHz output x1 cards} - "new (112818 FW)" 18 GHz microcode - parallel outs to --> [Audio: Denon 5308CI] --> [Video: JVC RS520 FW v30.1]

The 2nd pic is older with the epson 5040ub. The atmos speaker holders and wires are painted flat black now and I still need to clip them up but I'm still undecided on if I'm going move all my AV electronics in the other room so I dont want to cut the wires (and I'm lazy..ha!) I have painted one and most of the other tc sounds lms ultra 5400 boxes but it's too low of humidity for them to dry with herculiner so I pulled them out of the garage and using them since I got the new rs540u. So I'll finish the boxes when humidity goes up (early spring)

Other than that I'm picking up I think was 30 yards of triple black velvet soon to do the whole back wall, 44" of the ceiling, and 6ft both sides.

I have to upgrade my 2011 klipsch icon speakers then I'm pretty much done other than some theater seats I found or a new couch. The basement was already painted a medium grey and the ceiling a dark brown.

Its fully 100% light controlled. So the black velvet is needed even with the grey walls and brown ceiling. Plus the entertainment center top is glass so that reflects also. Why I want to move the electronics. The lights are on a dimmer switch for 2 parts of the room. 3 led lights above the projector can add light during movie without really affecting the screen at low at all. Plus have a remote for it. There is a outlet by the screen that they had light lamps in between the joists? Too bright and takes out the projection. So looking for some leds or something similar to the ones I have in the back and move them behind after the black velvet will be.

Are there any good ISF calibrators around WI?

Edit.. the light is actually on the left speaker in the 2nd pic that they had up in the rafter.. there are 2 of them that plug into a electric outlet that's on a seperate dimmer switch than everything else.

Edit again.. added few more pics. 1 was how I had the x900f and the setup before going PJ. The next is when I just got my screen and pj so didnt even move the atmos speakers yet. And last is the other room where the previous owner had his HTCP setup for his home theater. Only problem is I'd have to run another dedicated outlet and breaker for my amp or the other equipment to run the fp14000 amp. It's a 20amp right now so I figure get a 30amp for the amp and put every thing else on the 20amp.

WI Calibrators

I don't know about video calibrators that live in WI.
I've been trying to prod one of us to take this up as a job with potentially a small, but dedicated following.

Audio:
JTR - SE WI
Seaton - IL

Video (+/- Audio)
(? Buzz ?)
ChadB - AVS: @chadb - HDTVbyChadB.com - Ohio but "tours" the US
Michael B.- AVS: @desertdome - Nebraska
Craig Rounds - CIR Engineering - Chicago, IL - http://www.cir-engineering.com/
Ken Whitcomb - AVS: @D6500Ken - Indianapolis, IN

Craig has come out to my house twice over several years, but I haven't heard from him in a while.
Michael is coming out pre-AXPONA. Not sure if he is looking for a post-AXPONA. Not to speak for him, but I don't think so.
This would be a great list to "sticky" for people in WI and adjust over time.

PS - @desertdome is calibrating the JTR setup at AXPONA.

I have Chad coming late summer/fall. Waiting for the date be emailed to me. That's a ways away and prob will need to out a new bulb in by then.. (that's exaggerated about new bulb but I'm sure I'll have a lot of hours on it by then..)

I'm not sure if PennyNike1 has photo's of the before and after but he transformed his unfinished basement and ceiling into a finished looking project with Fabric attached to the joists and wrapped foam core insulation.

It can look very very good once everything is finished!

OK... So I think I can make 11.1.8 work in my setup. ***BUT*** I told my wife after this update year I would put that on hold for about two years.

I am kinda getting irritated at myself for constantly working on the room vs actually using the room. So, I think I need to do it for myself as well.

In your defense, things should plateau for awhile after this year, since we have good 4K PJ’s, and a few “affordable” 16-channel processors that will do Wide channel speakers.

That’s my story...

@giomania , I am all for enabling, but knowing Tony like I do, he is going to want more and more. Just a bit ago it was he was stopping at 9.1.4, and now he is talking 11.1.8. I am they same way.

Home theater can be very addictive...and costly, especially as channel count continues to climb. I would be pleased as punch if I was a seller/maker of speakers right now.

For sale: 4 Mackie c300z speakers, Tag Mclaren av32r preamplifier

For 11.1.8 the plan is Emotiva RMC-1 (once working) with 2 expansion modules bringing it to 24 Channels.

I’ll need about 22 in the end.

So hopefully Emotiva can get their act together and get the RMC-1 fully operational.

“Never Enough” is our song for a reason!

But I will “try” to put my 2 year plan in motion like my 4 year plan I had for D-Box. LMAO.

Anything beyond mono is just a fad, you guys are wasting your money! I seriously worked with an "AV" guy that would put everything that was recorded in meetings on VHS, because DVRs and DVDs are not reliable technology and just a fad. I cannot wait to see what you two come up with

If they were hard encoded channels I would agree, few studios would make more than 7.1.4.

But since Atmos is object based I wont have to worry about it being a fad. Atmos would have to die for it to be a fad!

Wow...just wow!

I currently have an 11.4 system (7.1, with 2 Audyssey DSX Wides and 2 Audyssey DSX Heights, as well as 4 Seaton SubMersive subwoofers.

I guess I am the “Kramer” in the group, as I am slamming my cash on the counter and stating I am out of “The (Atmos) Contest”.

I am going to 9.4.4 (AKA 9.1.4) and that’s it.

I have the additional speakers thanks to @SOWK .

I have the extra amplification thanks to this thread: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-re...atmos-amp.html

I just need the processor, and will wait to see what happens with the announced products through the next year.

Mark

Here is a quick tip.... if you buy a 16 Channel Processor with no expansion slots youll be less likely to want to ever go to 11.1.8

Unfortunately for me I had been planning on going to the RMC-1 for many years now. Only to find out they were putting expansion slots to offer up to 24 channels later in its life cycle!

I think I plan on only expanding to 7.1.4. What would be some of the best processor for 11 to 13 channels?

What amps are you guys using with you JTR speakers? I was looking at Emotiva because I really like the modular amp system.

What amps are you guys using with you JTR speakers? I was looking at Emotiva because I really like the modular amp system.
11 to 13 channels gives you a ton of choices.

Basically find what room correction software you like the most and start there.

Emotiva amps are good as long as you know they wire their XLR inputs reverse phase.

I used to have a similar carpet in HT room and a dark carpet really improved things.
I would like to do this if my wife and I decide to build a new home where I can plan everything. Currently this dedicated space is open (no back wall) and I have some custom cabinets and a under-counter beverage frig.

If you do that please start a build thread and post the link here. I'm sure we would love to see the progress and be helpful when we can offer advice!

Just stumbled across this thread, northside Milwaukee resident here! Got a small man cave, half taken over by toddler play area. I'm definitely not an isf certified calibrator, but am a hobbyist. Personal sets I've calibrated:
Sony z9d
Samsung q9fn
Lg c8 oled.

Have yet to calibrate a projector as I don't have one/never owned one but at some point I plan on tinkering with a coworkers older Panasonic projector.

Calibration equipment:
Calman enthusiast software
Calman c6 meter
Videoforge pro pattern generator

Current home theater setup:
65" lg c8 oled
Martin Logan motion 40s towers (fronts)
Svs ultra center channel
Polk audio atmos ceiling speakers
Mirage nano satellites surrounds
Definitive technology rear surrounds
Rythmik audio fvx 15 subwoofer

Welcome. Feel free to stay and have some good conversations!

Any pictures of your current setup? We welcome members even without projectors.
