Lol I have to chime in. Knowing that the meetup is soon has caused me to fix something that's been minorly bugging me. Patio door is removed and getting cleaned, annnnd it starts downpouring.

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures that are worthy yet. (Still WIP, so too embarrassing to show.)

You have nothing to be embarrassed about Scott. But I understand as I often don't like to show things that are WIP myself for some odd reason. Unless I am showing someone specifically how I did something.

I actually enjoy seeing progress photos more than the finished product. They show the behind the "screen" work that is very interesting.

@srw1000 you going to be able to make it Saturday? You are a joy to have in our group!!! Are you on the way to David's from anyone that is going? or can you meet up with someone and car pool?

I know, I have asked this like 2 or 3 times but I keep forgetting, what city are you out of again? I'll write it down somewhere now hopefully. LOL

Actually, calling it WIP may be an overstatement. Work has stalled, and while functional for wife and I, we've even got some non-theater stuff stored in there right now, so pictures wouldn't be very complimentary right now.

Can I get away with this, as a place-holder for now?

Unfortunately, it looks like I won't be able to make it. I've got to take care of a family-related matter on Saturday. I really look forward to the GTGs, and would have liked to check out David's subs and setup, not to mention the camaraderie of the group.

Carpooling would have been a good idea, though. I live in a small village about seven miles north of Port Washington, so I would have been passing by anyone in the Milwaukee area.

OK, so I am next for hosting the GTG for July.

Seems like I have settled on July 13th as the date.

Lets see if we can get some new faces to meet!

I have a few people confirmed (I think) so far so I'll start building a list. I live in an apartment, so I don't have a ton of space, but I think I can do about 7 including me, but we can see what the interest is.
  1. SOWK
  2. SteveFred
  3. Rad
  4. Holly
  5. ?
  6. ?

The timing is great now as I just finished upgrading my system. I have made lots of changes.

Changes
  • JVC NX5 Projector (now running 4K HDR plus new wiring for 4K60Hz and new HTPC GPU)
  • New projector mounting system and partial fan noise dampening
  • Polk Ceiling Atmos speakers
  • ADX Maximus Bass Shakers
  • New DIY screen
  • DIY removable screen masking panels for 2.40:1 content
  • Lots of new and additional triple black velvet on the ceiling and walls
  • Dark black carpet
  • Patio door blackout curtain system for 100% light control in the room

In addition, as some of you might remember I have a cool Linux mass storage server that runs my fully redundant video storage and houses my Windows HTPC in a virtual machine all in the same machine.

I also have a new, custom, (built from scratch by myself) full home theater control app that controls everything through IP from any device with a web browser, all from a single screen interface.

I can also always hook up my HTC Vive VR if anyone has never had the opportunity to try out VR gaming in the home.

Anyways, here are the new pictures of my system now after all the upgrades.

Thanks so much for everybody coming out today!!! I learned a lot about my system that I otherwise would not have known about. You guys are the best.

Tony, Paige is ecstatic that you left a couple nutter butter bars haha.

Seriously though, thanks you guys. We had a blast.

What a day! I love these GTG's! Always have been a wonderful time for me personally.

The great weather lead to an amazing cook out, with what I believe, to have been my favorite home made Cheese Burgers ever! So good!!!!

I got to meet Red Five for the first time. Another wonderful member that seems like he will fit in perfectly!

David and Paige were awesome hosts. Thank you for opening your home to us.

Your DIY subs are a sight to behold, the combination of near field and suspended wooden floor gives you an impressive amount of tactile feel without having to go ape on the volume that would normally be needed to get that same feeling.

Not once did I feel the SPL was too high and your main left and right channel speakers throw a wide enough sound stage that not having a center channel was really even noticeable at all. The dialog was easy to hear and understand.

I love the way you integrated your drop down screen within a living room environment. Very well done

Then the final movie was very entertaining, it just happened to lack a little common sense as it was written… LOL but most Suspense/horror movie lack that, so not out of the ordinary. (A Quiet Place)

So thank you again for a very memorable day.

*Red Five* After you had left, we found out the middle set of subs were not even on!!! So David enabled those for us as well. Kind of sad you didn't get to experience the full force of David's setup. But I'm sure we can do another in the future. I'm always game!

Thanks again for hosting Dave and Paige! We had a great time! The weather was perfect and I always appreciate a good grill out. When I stepped out of my car I could immediately smell charcoal, so I knew I was in for a good burger. The Aardvark sauce was a nice addition to the burger too!

Your DIY subs combined with a suspended wood floor did not disappoint! Overall I enjoyed the movie. It definitely got me a couple times. Thanks for spending time going thru your setup at the end. I really like the technical stuff and there is so much to learn from every GTG. The only problem with GTGs is the drive home.... I start to scheme. lol

Thanks for the kind words! That Aardvark hot sauce can be addicting.

I hear you on the scheming! Seems everytime I leave a GTG that there's something new that turns out I just need to have haha.

Updated your theater pics in the 2nd post of the thread!

Thank you.

The diffusers on the back wall are a extremely interesting design! Self made design or professionally designed and made?

Also those bass corner traps look incredible too!

I was thinking about going to CEDIA 2019 this year if I could find a partner in crime to got with me.

Typically whomever comes with, we just share a room and maybe a rental car and split the costs.

If you are interested it is September 12-14th (Thursday - Saturday)
