I haven't been very good at watching this thread, otherwise I would've had that weekend blocked off well in advance. We ended up planning a game / halloween night with some friends.

This would work as well! Maybe could hit up a few other theaters along the way too if there are any. I still need to drag Natalie to a few more GTG. She definitely appreciated the hobby a bit more after seeing SteveFred's theater. Too bad have nothing even close to his space available. Fiesty's space looks very similar the type of space we'd be looking to build.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

I some news regarding the RS1 subwoofers.... they have "officially" joined the family. They exceeded my expectations and are perfect for me. I see why Jeff was so open to letting us demo them for the GTG. He has been fantastic to work with and we are lucky to have him involved with our group.

Thumbs up

Special mention to @SOWK , as the thread he started years ago (now renamed) has served as partial inspiration for November's home theater of the month:

Home Theater of the Month: Oconee Theater

I also found the AVS Forum thread: “The Blacker the Theater, The Better the Image” and wanted to implement some of what I found.

Pretty cool!

Progress is slow but coming along.

New back view with baffle Wall sound boxes painted black on the sides, projector rack moved forward, additional 2'X4'X4'"acoustical panel installed behind the projector rack and small 12"X12"X1" acoustical panel installed below the projector, back subwoofers connected, rears in their new spot and connected.

Installed the subwoofers and projector on "gum rubber" to hopefully help mitigate vibrations getting to the projector.

Covered old speaker wire locations with small 12"X12"X1" acoustical panels.

Just talked to an architect today and the meeting went pretty great. I'm cautiously optimistic that I'm on the verge of (more) demolition, and with any luck will be building up the theater/listening space in January. Sadly, my favorite audio shop just announced they're closing so I'll be freestyling a bit more than expected on new gear. In the meanwhile I've been stocking up on lots of their acoustic panels for future use. We'll see how this goes

That didn't take you too long, and with two you can get additional benefits of multiple sub placement

I hope they put a smile on your face when you get them setup and going.

The subs will have to be left under the screen, but I can change the port/mouth alignment from both outside to both inside/center. I think outside alignment will be the first thing I try. The subs have mid bass for days so mutual coupling on the upper frequencies not something I am too worried about.

@Last Mile and I got them in place last night The two year olds were tearing the place up, so an actual calibration has not been done, but the do have a good low end signature, better than I was expecting.

Looks great! Do I sense a 2020 GTG? @SOWK Do we have anything set for next year yet?

I've started doing "rough" calibrations with my 4 year old and then serious calibrations later. For some reason she likes the test tones and sine sweeps. lol!

Hey guys. Somewhat off-topic question. I'm going to be installing some LVP flooring this winter and was curious if anyone here has a laminate floor cutting tool I could buy, rent, or borrow. One of those that is like a large paper cutter almost, like this: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....AC_SL1000_.jpg

Figured with all the DIYers in this thread, someone must've done their own laminate or LVP flooring installation and this cutter is one of those tools that is basically one time use.

I thought with luxury vinyl plank you just take a straight edge and score it with a utility knife?

It really depends on the brand and thickness of the LVP. You can score it and snap, but it is not usually just one quick score over it and an easy snap like drywall is. Often requires either one deep pass or multiple passes and then a good amount of effort to snap and since I'm doing over 600 sq ft, I'm trying to stay away from going that route. I ended up just biting the bullet and bought a SKIL flooring saw which will allow me to mitre, rip, and do angle cuts. Looks to be a solid tool at a good price. So if anyone tackles a similar project down the road and this tool works as advertised, feel free to reach out and I can lend it to you.

@SteveFred I have been meaning to reach out to you regarding the impressive trim work you've done throughout your house. You should have a PM coming your way soon.

Just listed my Sony projector for sale HERE. I waited 5 years to finally buy one and now with the new house we just don't have a place for it, so it sits in a box in the basement. Figured I should just sell it and then when I build a new space out, I can buy something better.

No idea on pricing, so if anyone has any insight to if my price is too high, please let me know and I'll adjust it. Also, if anyone here is interested in it, let me know as I'd rather sell it to someone here.

No idea on pricing, so if anyone has any insight to if my price is too high, please let me know and I'll adjust it. Also, if anyone here is interested in it, let me know as I'd rather sell it to someone here.
Woah... $500 OBO.... That will sell fast.

They typically sell for about $600

Although.... You might want to put it in the Display and Front Projector thread and not the Audio Thread.

Finally got wood to start my boss build. I'd attach pictures but I don't see how to do that via the mobile site. I'll be using four 12" subs for the build.

Glad to see everybody progress! Keep it up!
