^ Wow, looks gorgeous! So when is your singer/songwriter debut concert? I’m picturing something in the Van Morrison, Tom Waits vein.

I've been wanting to pick up one of the DIY semi-hollow body guitar kits and build one myself (amateur wood worker and all that) and even found a company in Australia of all places that does a left handed kit.
I can't play at all but I love the craftsmanship that goes into guitars.

Nice pickup there.

I keep confusing my intentions with my abilities.

It was in 1995, and it probably won’t ever happen again.

There was Van Morrison, but no Tom Waits.

Of course you want a DIY project.

I can play ‘em, polish ‘em, and change the strings, but I’ve failed at every in depth repair/modification I’ve tried.

I even bought a Chibson last winter to teach myself how to do fretwork, because my ‘83 Les Paul needs some done.

So I ordered this sweet counterfeit custom Les Paul, bought new pickups and wiring, fret files, the whole works.

Well, it plays, but there’s something funky in the wiring, because it doesn’t always sound great. And my fret leveling attempt was a failure.

@thrillcat , I know you saw ELO recently and loved the show. I wish I knew them better when tickets went on sale because I would have gone too. Picked up A New World Record and am finishing side 2 now. Not a bad track on here but Tightrope, Telephone Line, and So Fine really stick out for me.

I can never decide my favorite. I really love Discovery and Out of the Blue, but New World Record is also Killer, and their really old stuff is awesome in a different way.

Who doesn’t love some Fire on High???

And who remembers the CBS Sports Spectacular?

I have Out of the Blue on cd and need to go through it. I will say the sound quality is fantastic from the Supertramp - Crime of the Century LP I got at Marv’s recently. Nice wide soundstage but not super deep, decent dynamic range, overall I’m really happy with it. Great album that everyone should check out if they aren’t familiar.

They did a Wilco turntable a couple years ago, too.

Reminds me of my old KISS transistor radio.

Did some reading and I'm going to try turning my existing raspberry pi 3 (not used) into a device that can play wav files from an external hd that is attached to it. I currently have quite a few cd's ripped onto an external hd and connect through my Oppo, that's for the main system. This is going to be for casual listening on my main floor so great sound quality is not required. The best part is that the software is free (RuneAudio) and the user interface is web based. I'll be using my tablet to control things and won't need the tv to be on. Hopefully it goes well without any computer nerd problems popping up.

A fellow Queen fan shared this with me and I found it pretty interesting. Brian May is listening to the different tracks in the studio providing insight as it plays...if you're a fan give it a watch! Not sure why but the video starts playing 3 minutes in, oh well, just start at the beginning.

Got the raspberry pi playing my cd rips in the living room without too much of a fuss, unusual for me that projects like this go smoothly. Now that I know it works, does anyone have any external hd’s lying around they want to sell? Preferably 2 tb, let me know. I’m trying to do this as cheaply as possible as I haven’t spent any money yet. Gotta love nerd projects!

Dude, I just bought an 8TB drive for $140 a few weeks ago and I’m streaming 6 1080p full res production streams in real-time. Get a big one now and forget about having to move or add more.

Oh wow, that’s cheap for 8TB, much less than the last time I priced them which was awhile ago. There’s a 2TB for $65 on Amazon but 8TB is tempting at that price. Thanks for the link!

I found a little time over the busy weekend (the wife and I took a couple days off for our anniversary and took a trip) to do some more listening. I haven't made it to the Airbag CD's yet, but I did get a chance to listen to INXS Kick 5.1 and more of Eye in the Sky. Kick as I feared has a little compression going on. I was initially kind of disappointed with it and after some experimentation found that the mastering liked a bit more oomph. So after adjusting +3dB over movie reference I found the overall presentation very good. Some tracks are certainly better than others, but if you want to get some multichannel '80's nostalgia going, put it in and crank it up. The Alan Parson's discs continues to be a reference experience. There are some tracks that aren't my style, but it hits far more often than it misses. And man the imaging on it is just fantastic.

Well you said you wanted to keep the budget down =P

My short list so far:
Vizio E43-F1 (for my PC)
A couple of very small SDD's. (Boot drives for my computers)
Amps to fill out my Atmos setup (Once I get an AVR) (Maybe the new behingers or some QSC Amps.)
Rack for my equipment room (22u)
A few smart lights (Want to control with my harmony)
See if Jeff has any holiday discounts on 2x S8LP's (Finish up speakers for atmos)

Since the RMC-1 is near Im gearing up for Atmos.

So first impressions of Vinyl Cup...

Nice shop, decent sized space, nice little listening room. A decent used vinyl collection that includes stuff he has purchased, stuff other collectors have "consigned" him to sell for them and a small selection of new vinyl.
It is like a hybrid of Marv's meets ZZZ in that it has a mix of what they both have but a much better listening arrangement than either.
Staff and owner are all very friendly.
We were offered free beer a couple of times while we were there and harassed mercilessly when we refused (not really but he did bust our chops a bit hehe.

I ended up with 6 used albums but didn't really spend any time digging through the stuff he had just brought back from the record show he was returning from (mostly the kind of mainstream stuff the average vinyl-poser would be looking for hehe).

You can join his Facebook group for first crack at new stuff he gets in plus he has a thing through Square where you can buy a $50 "V-Card" and get an extra $10 to spend free which is nice.
The new stuff coming in gets posted as pictures on Facebook, you PM him what you want, he emails you and invoice and then you just pick it up the next time you are in the shop.

All in all a pleasant visit. Not a huge store with an overwhelming load of crap to dig through before you find anything decent.

@ZLTFUL , thanks for the write up, almost makes we want to get on Facebook...almost.

Has anyone heard the Prince - Piano and a Microphone album that had an official release recently? I heard side 1 which was a medley of him riffing on you guessed it, a piano. Not bad, not great either, I was never into the bootlegs from way back so I was unfamiliar with these. If I could pick it up for $10 I probably would and have it as another late night/low energy album.

Here’s a 1/2 price sale going into tomorrow, LP’s, CD’s, and downloads are all part of the sale.

I picked up Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, David Byrne - American Utopia, Brian Eno & David Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, and The Black Keys - Turn Blue.

Just got back from a long weekend trip down to Arlington, TX. My buddy Derek had gtg for the Audiophiles of North Texas and since I was going to be down there picking up my screen anyway, I spent the day there Saturday listening to some equipment I could easily own, some I could own if I made some serious effort to do so and some gear I have no chance of owning this lifetime unless the lottery fairy came a'callin'.
I got to watch my Michigan Wolverines play on that fancy Sony 4k panel down there somewhere. Derek and Marvin (another Polk member as well as a DFW audio nut) provided the eats which included some very tasty smoked brisket, some of Marvin's amazingly delicious smoked sausage as well as assorted other BBQ related fare.

Source material was Tidal/digital files for simplicity's sake. There was a Thorens TT there but is just sat there lookin' purdy. Hehe. Skip (aka Derek aka DSkip on the Polk forum and @AudioThesis here) is the owner of Audio Thesis and a genuinely nice guy who is really into the hobby as well as being in the business. So his gtgs end up feeling less like a sales pitch and more like a gathering like we experience around here.
