Cool, you’re going to have to show a movie with those JTR’s . Are you still thinking about an RMC-1? LS50’s seem to be pretty popular, based on what I’ve read they need a good bit of power to make them really sing. Keep us posted on what you pick up!

I do have the Botti blu-ray and it’s very enjoyable but I find that I watch bits of Queen-Montreal a lot more...that’s a great show from 1981 that I recommend to everyone if they haven’t seen it. Matthews/Reynolds Radio City and Talking Heads- Stop Making Sense are the only other concerts I have on disc. Actually Stop Making Sense is probably my favorite, it’s just pure energy for the entire show!

I don’t know James Darren, may have to do a quick YouTube lookup.

Im not sure, there ended up being a few things I wanted from the RMC-1 which they said were going to be there but aren't and for that money.... not sure I want to settle.
The LS50's Im looking at are the active ones with built in amplification, said to be very good.

For quite a while they spoke about a emotiva up-mixer which could be used with ATMOS. (Dolby is preventing any 3rd party *licensed* up-mixer from being used with Dolby sound tracks, so no using DSX, Auro3d, DTSX upmixers with ATMOS sound tracks.) Since I run wides today with Neural X or DSX I don't want to lose the upmixing to those from the bed channels, as I like it quite a lot.

There is no turn-table input on the RMC-1 (apparently it will be a module, maybe....)
Also the promised 192khz Dirac has now turned into 96khz dirac, so its less appealing to me, and its not even available yet at all on the RMC-1 currently.

Now Im much more wondering if I should get an 8805 + Mini-DSP and have more flexibility, or do something entirely different and go the QSC Q-SYS route.
So Im going to sit on my decision until spring and see how the RMC-1 actually shapes up.

Very cool, thanks for sharing!

If anyone is interested to pick up an awesome album, I was in Rogue Planet today and saw a great condition Supertramp-Crime of the Century (Mofi pressing) for $35!

I don't know how many of you guys have looked at Audacity?
Its pretty neat as it allows you to look at the waveforms of the (digital) music you have and see how much the sound has been mangled in the recording process.
Ill post some pictures in a while, but I was surprised to see what music I have that is recorded well and what has had its dynamic range clipped significantly.
I'm also going to do a comparison of some records to CD's where I have the same ones.

Last time I tried using Audacity, it crashed every 4-5 minutes, so it wasn’t very helpful for editing radio ads. That was back when I worked at KDSM and they (Sinclair) wouldn’t buy me the tools required to perform the tasks required of my job.

Are you just talking about the waveform itself, or does it now include some sort of spectrum analyzer?

Speaking of awesome albums... #nowplaying

Yeah just the waveform, no spectrum analyzer (At least that I have found, maybe a plugin?). I wasn't really trying to use it for editing just to see the dynamic range mangling.

The linux version so far has been solid, for my purposes.

The current Windows builds of Audacity have been really solid as well. We use them here to edit meetings and no complaints. Well other than a lot of it is still single threaded, so throwing more hardware at it rarely makes a big dent in performance.

On the music side FINALLY got to listen/watch Steve Wilson - Home Invasion Blu Ray. Holy cow is this disc mastered well. And I enjoyed all of the tracks, most of which were my first time hearing them. Absolutely first class demo material here!

Nice, I am not familiar with his solo or Porcupine Tree stuff so this is good to hear. I will say I’m a huge fan of his remixes, Chicago II and Aqualung are both top notch! I’ve been nagging (1/2 of me was serious) Brian at Marv’s Music since Summer about his Yes box set that has remixes by Wilson which aren’t available for sale as individual albums. He said if the box set doesn’t sell over the holidays that he’ll buy it himself and sell me Fragile from it...no one go buy it.

Just buy the whole set. Fragile is certainly the album with the most recognizable hits, but the rest are likely to have some quirky Yes goodness you'll find yourself enjoying. One of my friends that used to camp with us was a huge Yes fan and would put on some obscure tracks. Some of them do grow on you

So the Pleasant Hill Library has been having a book and CD sale for months now and since we do the Iowa Food Coop pickup for the east side there, I have been rummaging through the CDs bit by bit.

Ended up getting 40 CDs for $8 the last time we were there and I am looking forward to digging through there again on Thursday.
A lot of crap but I got a few really good items along with a BUNCH of classical.
Even picked up a completely unused copy of Beatie Boys, "Paul's Boutique".

I don't know about "only" but it's a great track. There are a lot of others that are pretty darn good. And if Wilson remastered that set, I'd bet money they all sound amazing.

NICE!

Ok...I just typed out a huge rambling tube comparison and after reading through it, it sounded pretty pretentious. If you want to drink beer and talk tubes, let me know and we can do it up right.

The contingent you have are pretty solid but appear to be all modern built tubes which will give you decent sound for a decent price but for not a lot more money, you can get some NOS stuff that will take that Jolida to another level.

Also, have you checked the bias on the amp? Usually, 6L6GCs are pretty rock solid valves but sometimes you get some decent swing even in matched pairs or quads.

Anyway, I too am lucky enough to have a woman who supports my hobby by purchasing me stuff like that! Congrats!

**EDIT**
If you aren't, use the 4ohm taps for the speakers regardless of your speaker's nominal rating. It will give you a bit more current without risking anything.

I keep confusing my intentions with my abilities.

Checking bias is on the agenda today. I don’t have a multimeter, so have to borrow Seymour’s.

I’d love to have a beer and talk tubes. Being a guitarist, I know the difference a tube swap can give, especially going to some NOS, but I really don’t know what to look for. That’s why I used to have a guitar tech when it mattered.

Between this and the new projector, 2001 night should be quite an event!

Nope. Will probably add a Bluetooth receiver so I can stream music off my iphone when I’m working around the house, but it’s really just for vinyl.

Above YES "Leave It" link didn't work....try this one....unfortunately it's mostly a vocal choral and doesn't show off their superlative individual MUSICAL capabilities:
https://youtu.be/8-hJFoSgXfM?list=RD8-hJFoSgXfM
Followed by recent "Roundabout" R&R Hall of Fame recording where you can SEE the incomparable RICK WAKEMAN at work....followed by "Symphonic YES!!!"...."Love Will Find a Way".....et. al.

PS: There are perhaps one or two DOZEN other Tracks that I would scream: "YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!":
https://www.google.com/search?client...yes+track+list
And YES!!! I DO have a complete set in both VINYL and CD/SACD/DVD-A/BD where available....
