Hard to say where to start. He’s all over the map. I’d probably say the John Mayer Trio album is the best start, then work into the poppier stuff.

Did you get the Music On Vinyl (MOV) version?

Actually, start here.

Yeah, I noticed right after I posted that that they posted a bunch of stuff from his tours with The Dead. Not the best example of his level of talent.

Mayer is a great guitarist. I seen several interviews and he seems like a cool guy. Just can't get past his vocals. They just don't gel for me. Kind of like Prince. He was an amazing talent. Fantastic guitar player. Music just never clicked.

It’s funny you mention Prince, I’ve been known to claim that John Mayer is the next Prince.

Guy was INSANELY talented. Just not my cup of tea. Don't mind when others want to listen to him though.

i get it, similar to the fact I don’t really jive with The Eagles. I like certain songs but there’s a cleanliness (don’t know the word?) to their music that I don’t fully connect with.

@thrillcat , thanks for the Red Rocks idea. I read about a lot of the pressing issues others have had but so far, so good as I’m through disc 1. Sounds excellent and I can’t wait to listen to the rest of it!

Also picked up RHCP - Stadium Arcadium. The regular packaging has been out of print until 2016, if you enjoy this music I’d recommend picking up a copy before it’s gone as to avoid the scalpers later. This is mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman and it sounds phenomenal!

I tuned out of the Chili Peppers after One Hot Minute. They lost their funk.

I agree with you on them losing the funk. I like the Frusciante stuff minus Californication. To be fair I haven’t heard everything on that album because I can’t get past Scar Tissue and the title track.

We went to see RHCP at the Well a while ago. I dug a lot of their tunes growing up. By mid point I was ready to go, I never realized how much a lot of their material sounded the same! I wasn't upset with the music, I just got bored with it. Still enjoy some of their tunes.

I agree with that too Joel, one album at a time for me with the Chili Peppers. I will say the 1-2 opening punch of The Power of Equality and If You Have to Ask on BSSM is one of my favorite beginnings to any album.

The transition from track 1 to track 2 blends so well, if you haven’t heard them in a while go give it a listen.

I finished my initial listen to DMB - Live At Red Rocks. Other than a very slight edge warp on discs 1 & 2, this 4 disc set plays/sounds excellent! The edge warps are slight, don’t effect play, and only last a few minutes into those particular sides. I’m picky about that kind of stuff and have no issues sending them back for replacements, but these are trivial.

As for the skips I read so much about online prior to purchase, I had none. But then again I’m a freak and clean every record (new or used) before it hits my table.

Highly recommended, this is a great set!

Recent pickups over the past weekend, 3 Kraftwerk albums and Exile From Main St. from ZZZ! My timing was lucky as these were still behind the counter and not even priced yet.

Queen and Deep Purple were from Red Rooster on Douglas, they have a lot of good stuff in that shop.

A few new titles today...

John Mayer’s “Continuum”
Poe’s “Haunted”
Counting Crows’ “August and Everything After”

B.A.M. in Ames had a lot of RSD titles still on the shelves if you’re looking.

One of the things I had interest in was the Sugar Hill box set (old school rap) but I don’t think there were many copies? It’s pricier than I’d like to pay on the used market.

Went to DSM to have dinner and pick up a Les Paul for Wilco and found ourselves at a couple of the Vinyl Village venues.

Started at PeaceTree where Rogue Planet was setup. I grabbed a Thelonius Monk album here.

On the way out we bumped into Jason from the Nadas who reminded me he was playing at Marv’s later. After dinner at Bubba (awesome place, BTW) and picking up the guitar, stopped at Marv’s on the way out of town. Great turnout.
@Draden1 , we saw your friend that was at the first listening session but not on AVS at Marv’s, but I’m terrible with names and I don’t think he recognized me.

It was a cool event and it seemed they were really happy with the turnout, even with damp weather. Sounds like they’ll do it again.

Very cool, I'm guessing you saw my buddy James, he's the guy that won the gift card at Marv's when we did the trivia. I wasn't aware something was even going on, sounds like something I'd enjoy.

I had seen it on the Face Page, but didn't plan on going. It was kind of spur of the moment for us. Kind of an east village bar crawl with the Vinyl Cup model of selling records.

More sales! Acousticsounds.com has a “15percent” off deal right now and with no tax/free shipping ($50), they have a ton to look at.

What makes this sale nice is that the Analogue Productions stuff is included as it typically isn’t.

This is 70s funk. The players on her albums. The stories. The real deal.

She’s groovy, no arguing that. I hadn’t heard your particular album so I listened to part of it today, good stuff! Your jacket looks nice, is it a reissue? I heard her first album a while back and really liked it. Vinyl Me Please gave her debut album a 1st class reissue not too long ago. I haven’t heard it but based on other VMP reissues I own, I’m sure it’s good.

Your post is well timed, a buddy and I are on a Parliament / Funkadelic kick right now. Mothership Connection is on order, I am also going to pick up Clones of Dr. Funkenstein....I dig the spacier stuff.

If anyone is an Elton fan, you can get new, sealed copies of Tumbleweed Connection and Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player for $7.67 each ($20.50 shipped for both) over at deepdiscount.com.

These are part of the recent reissue series that sound really good.
