Sunday matinee sounds good. Typically not as crowded (parking and movie) first show of the day.

Absolutely, Mike! Join in with us.

Marc knows these things better but I think the tickets should be available on Tuesday. I'll probably get some in the G row. I think that's where we sat for MI:5.

There's also one of the new 3-screen Barco Escape theatres that recently opened up in Los Angeles:

The same Cineplex has an Auro theatre, unfortunately separate from the Escape theatre.

Hmmm.... how long is Scorch Trials playing in there, Sanjay?

Maybe I'll make a first trip this weekend to check that out too.

Don't know how long it will be playing in Barco Escape. You could check with the theatre:

http://www.cinemark.com/barco-escape...ze-runner.aspx

Unfortunately. I won't be able to go this weekend because I have company coming over. But maybe next weekend when you're down here (see Maze Runner in BE on Saturday and Martian in Dolby Atmos\Vision on Sunday).

Ah well... maybe. I don't know if I'm coming alone or if my dad is coming too. I'll check. Otherwise I'd be down for that. Based off the little demo video it looks like they just project the entire scope image across all screens for a super wide experience. I'd wonder if that's what they do or if they really used triple camera photography which I kind of doubt. But I could be wrong!

Anybody else for The Martian?

I think it is the latter, since only about 20 minutes of the movie is in BE.

I don't know how they handled Scorch Trials, but I saw the first Maze Runner in an Escape theater, and the additional screens weren't showing original photography at all - it was all computer-generated sequences meant to tie in with the actual film. They used one of the high-end game engines to generate a lot of the imagery, and the resolution was not quite DCI 2K.

Of course for the sequel they've had more time to plan it out, so perhaps this time around they actually shot additional sequences, or at least have higher-quality CGI imagery to accompany the primary image.

THE MARTIAN

I'd like to join you guys also. What time are you thinking? They don't have reserved seating for sale yet but the times on Sunday 10/4 are 10:15 AM, 1:30 PM, 4:40 PM. The earlier shows might be easier to get good seats.

MAZE RUNNER

BTW - we just saw Maze Runner: Scorch Trials in the Burbank Prime theater on Tuesday night. The blacks from the later projector are truly amazing, especially when contrasted with the bright highlights from HDR.

There is a scene where they are running through underground drainage tunnels with flashlights. The screen was completely ink black wherever the lights didn't shine. The flashlights had that bright blue/white light from high intensity LED bulbs. It would fade back and forth from them running through a tunnel by the camera, and the empty tunnel ahead of them. The screen was completely inky dark as if if the projector was turned off until they came around a corner into the picture.

There are also extended scenes where they are climbing through the interior of wrecked buildings. With HDR, you can see all the detail in the dark interior areas plus all the brighter detail to the exterior wreckage outside.

Not much ULF, but great use of the dolby surround channels. Particularly with the ambience sounds when underground or inside the shifting wreckage of crumbling buildings.

EVEREST

We're going to see Everest there tomorrow at 4:00 PM. It will be interesting to see how HRD adds detail to the snow covered rocks just like you see in real life. Let me know if anyone else wants to join us tomorrow.

Checked the AMC site and don't see any PRIME listings yet. Usually they are up on Tuesday but was just checking early.

Think you'll join us for this one @FilmMixer ?
