Thumbs up Grateful for Ivan's GTG

The shots of Tequila flowed after Jon Spackman's totally unexpected Bourbon sampling. And then there was Brian, from the Bay Area, with his spectacular sounding small bookshelf speaker. Plenty of food brought by participants and a special thanks to Ivan and his family. Clearly, a day worthy of the Los Angeles Home Theater Group.

Can definitely say that this GTG involved much more drinks than I previously remember lol. LAHTG? More like Alcoholic Audiophiles

Thanks to Ivan and your great family for once again being such gracious hosts. Great to see so many of the familiar faces and just as great to see the new faces. Brian thanks much for bringing your DIY speakers and being so gracious at demoing them for us for hours.

Thanx to Ivan & family for the generous hospitality. We used to be such a nice, knowledgeable group of people. Now our meets are a couple dozen guys laughing uncontrollably because they're wasted out of their minds. The only thing we sobered up for was Brian's home brewed speakers (wow, were they a treat to listen to). Oh yeah, we also sat upright when food was ready.

Still getting over the head cold, still not sure about tequila "therapy" but it was a heck of a good time. Notice the spices already in the ready to eat fish tacos
And the big raw one is from a dude, also expertly cooked and tasty. The home made salsa, a challenge for the asbestos coated tongue. And a cake

Thanks for all the compliments of my speaker! I've been slowly making improvements on them and recently, after a lot of research, chose a target curve that I feel would sound universally good to everyone. I was glad to see that so many people loved them given many of them own very impressive speakers themselves, and spending hours in the listening room listening to everything from jazz to R&B to metal (although we did drove a few people out of the room when we cranked the Metallica track, but Will loved it!)

To those wondering, no, there was no subwoofer. All the bass was coming from the speakers themselves! I was actually surprised the internal amps didn't shut down given we were listening at 90-100dB for over 4 hours, most of that coming from bass, which requires a huge amount of power due to the ridiculously small box. And also, if you're thinking, are they actually this good? Yes, every driver can be found in 5 figure speakers. In fact, the speaker is pretty much using the same drivers as the $35,000 Thiel 40.3 speakers. It's the same Scan-Speak beryllium tweeter, I use the 4" version of their 5" Scan-speak midrange driver (which is actually more expensive because it is neodymium), and I use the 2 of their 6" version of their dual 8" Wavecor woofers in the speaker. Plus, I'm using very advanced DSP features on the speakers that do a far more and better job than any passive crossover can do, and each driver is individually amplified. So it should actually sound better than many 5 figure speakers even though it is only the size of a football!
