Thanks for all the compliments of my speaker! I've been slowly making improvements on them and recently, after a lot of research, chose a target curve that I feel would sound universally good to everyone. I was glad to see that so many people loved them given many of them own very impressive speakers themselves, and spending hours in the listening room listening to everything from jazz to R&B to metal (although we did drove a few people out of the room when we cranked the Metallica track, but Will loved it!)
To those wondering, no, there was no subwoofer. All the bass was coming from the speakers themselves! I was actually surprised the internal amps didn't shut down given we were listening at 90-100dB for over 4 hours, most of that coming from bass, which requires a huge amount of power due to the ridiculously small box. And also, if you're thinking, are they actually this good? Yes, every driver can be found in 5 figure speakers. In fact, the speaker is pretty much using the same drivers as the $35,000 Thiel 40.3 speakers. It's the same Scan-Speak beryllium tweeter, I use the 4" version of their 5" Scan-speak midrange driver (which is actually more expensive because it is neodymium), and I use the 2 of their 6" version of their dual 8" Wavecor woofers in the speaker. Plus, I'm using very advanced DSP features on the speakers that do a far more and better job than any passive crossover can do, and each driver is individually amplified. So it should actually sound better than many 5 figure speakers even though it is only the size of a football!
