Personally, I would be fine with you taking a leadership role. Having spent time with us, you know it would be like herding cats. But if you have ideas and are willing to try, go for it. I could certainly go for more of the movie/lunch get togethers, like the one last weekend.

As the instigator of the most recent suggestion to make a more formalized group I'll take the hit for this, since I'm the one that suggested it and then did...well, not nothing, but also not much tbqh. I'm stretched a little thin with a couple of other volunteer organizations at the moment (not to mention the Quest To Find a Job), so I'd be thrilled to see someone take the reins. Daniel since we're in the same neighborhood, if you'd like to meet up to brainstorm ideas I'd be happy to.

Yeah I would really like to meet up. I feel this could genuinely become something fun and useful and maybe even bring local LA businesses in it as a way of promoting and so forth. Shoot me a PM/DM and we can talk further.

I should have posted about this months ago. I visited Starke Sound while the Starke engineers were in town to recalibrate the theater room with the Storm and the new SUB45s (CEDIA 2018). The sound is absolutely incredible. If you missed the first event at Starke, you do not want to miss this one! If you did attend… you still don't want to miss it.

Starke has both class A/AB and class D amplification. I was able to borrow an A7 in home (I'll be measuring it once I can get my life in order). I'm not sure there is anything else out there like it for people/"purists" who are wary of class D.

I believe Starke is monitoring this thread and can answer any questions that arise regarding their gear or the event.

I will probably upset someone with the topic change, but I just updated the firmware on my Oppo UDP-203. I can now get HDR10+ on my TV. I have "A Beautiful Planet" which was recorded in HDR10+ but I made the mistake of not watching the movie just before the upgrade - so I have nothing to compare with. It does look great now, however.

You should be able to disable HDR10+/force HDR10 on the Oppo and get just HDR10 to display.

^^ Why would I want to do this? I don't know if even this would return the display to the pre firmware upgrade status. (I am happy with the current result)
There is a workaround for Dolby Vision, but I don't know if it is avail for HDR10+
Perhaps I will buy Robin Hood that is supposed to have both Dolby & HDR10+ (I wasn't going to, but...)?

I believe his suggestion was in response to your statement of comparing before and after the update. You can force HDR10 to do your comparison.

According to Vincent Teoh of HDTV Test (he just posted a HDR10 VS HDR10+ compare on YouTube) the only way to switch at the moment is by flashing firmware (general release = HDR1O, beta=HDR10+).

Supposedly the new Robin Hood has both HDR10+ & Dolby Vision on the same disk (It shows HDR10+ at the start of the movie on my Samsung Q9F)
The Oppo UDP-203 official release UDP20X-65-0131, 2/8/2019 supports HDR10+

Hi,

I just had Kris Deering calibrate my systems. OLED was a knock off, Sony a bit of settings vs input noise - and the BenQ TK800 - well, not seeming to calibration audience ready. I have only had time to watch the OLED since the work - and yes, Kris nailed it down. Like my plasma calibrations - it was very subtle given decent choices on settings before but after - just seemed more real, more clear, more accurate. Colors looked better and still "real" for example some purple lipstick had the exact flat texture/reflective sheen where as before it would have been over driven.

I enjoyed working with Kris and he was very patient with my exhausted babbling and the chaos going on in the house - including a ceiling water problem in the theater room. I recommend him if you need calibration or consultations he has a lot of depth.

As for my 'finally gotta theater". Well it would be fabulous if....

the speakers weren't $25, and placed with 10 minutes of thought,
the receiver had more power,
the woofer not stuffed into a closet,
the projector had a black level at all,
the walls weren't all white
the surface reflections weren't high - and the room almost a perfect square box
the chip in the projector matched the light aperture....
there was a unified remote and in closet IF repeater
there wasn't water in the ceiling that fed an ant colony - though they do absorb some sound reflections.

But the projector does work, the $155 screen is usable enough and structurally decent quality - value, the 3D works, the tweeters are nice, and 120" at about 8-9 feet makes for a really freekin big screen. So in my short time I hope to enjoy it - polish it up and sell it as a feature with my house.

And Kris did a great job with a lame system to help me squeeze the best out of this deep bottom 4k projector.

I cannot attend March 30. April 6 is best for me.

Even if you've visited the demo roon previously you will want to again. The Storm SSP and the Sub45s have taken the experience up a notch or two. Truly sublime sound.
