Good news guys. A spot opened up for tomorrow at Ivan's. Unfortunately for me, my car just died today so I'll be sans transportation until I either rebuild/replace the engine or buy a new car. Anyone know a decent mechanic that won't charge an arm and a leg to rebuild/replace an engine?

You didn't miss it, date has not yet been fixed.

Hey Ivan, if I bring a bottle of *really* good mezcal can we turn off the motion interpolation?

In the past it could make me feel motion sickness when it was cranked up.

It was not a problem, just a difference of opinion. I strongly prefer the film look of 24fps, Ivan prefers the smoothed-out motion look you get when the motion judder is removed by algorithm. To my eye this just pulls me straight out of the movie.

I will say the all-CGI sequences of Aquaman looked just fine with the motion interpolation, but any sequences that were mostly actors on set just looked wrong. YMMV.

I'm with Ivan.

IMHO, the "Low" setting of JVC's CMD (Clear Motion Drive) is a miracle of video technology. 24p movies I've enjoyed for years that looked perfectly fine on a 50" TV at 10' looked shockingly atrocious on a 10' screen until CMD was activated. To me, they retain enough judder to give the film feel without getting into the "soap opera effect" of the higher interpolation rates. The bigger screen means the physical angular displacement between frames is magnified, much the same effect as a faster camera pan, thus exacerbating the problem compared to the smaller screen

Maybe I am hyper sensitive to these motion artefacts. I'm likewise intolerant of single chip projectors, as the breakup of the RGB color overlap as one's eyes move is quite unnatural. Particularly evident with B&W films.

I agree ^^^^ it almost completely eliminates those pesky jitters you get from pick-it fences and the like on certain pans.

There are several spaces: The main theater, a 2ch living room in reception, a large area with displays of most (all?) of their products which opens to the parking area. Plenty of room to socialize!

Starke Sound is going to arrange for subs from Giuliano's Deli! I think we should bring the rest. I'm thinking plates, utensils, napkins, cups, drinks and deserts. We usually do very well with volunteers.

Thanks Guys,

I have a hard time watching movies with it off. I also have it in the low setting as Roger pointed out. I'm so used to it by now that when its off i can see artifacts as well as motion blur. I also agree with Roger on this being a hell of video technology. Woknrox you are also right as it eliminates jitters on most of all the pans. Once you get used to it, its really hard to go back and turn it off.

This Saturday is the day for Starke Sound. I'm hoping everyone can still make it. If you can't stay long, just drop by for 30 mins.

We still need volunteeers to bring plates, plastic cups & utensils, napkins, drinks and desserts.

I'll bring dessert.
