If anyone ever needs any type of cable, cord, wire or adaptor please contact me first. I was looking for something today and forgot how much of that stuff that I have that I don't use. Banana plugs, CAT6, speakon connectors, speaker wire...you name it.

I hear ya. I used to have a shoe box that grew into a larger box, and now I have almost 2 bins full of misc cables, cords, connectors, mostly A/V related.

Spent some time yesterday to install one of those giant antennas so I can pick up locals, it's in the attic space above our garage. The people at Winegard said it would work in the attic and apparently they know their stuff because it's picking up lo vhf, hi vhf, and uhf from 34 miles out.

It has been about ten years or so since watching locals ota, I forgot how good uncompressed hi def can look. Makes you realize just how compromised the picture is through cable, sat, etc.

@dlbeck

I won't be able to make it on the 7th. I'm bummed; but, an important family matter has been planned for that weekend in KS.

Another time for sure.

Thinking of hosting a movie and pizza night for 4 or 5 folks in the Living Room setup in the nearish future. Obviously the theater isn't done yet but the living room is plenty capable.

Any interest?

I keep confusing my intentions with my abilities.

I'm up for an Eastern Iowa crawl and have offered to host in my "not-all that impressive" theater...however, I already have at least two weekends in April that I am out.

Set up #1: EMP e5Ti, e5Ci, and EMP e5Bi surrounds, Outlaw LFM1 Plus sub, SVS NSD SB12 sub, Marantz Slimeline 1504 AV receiver
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and EMPtek10i10i sub, Denon 1910 AV receiver

I also offered to host when we started to discuss a crawl last summer. Unfortunately, my job and my kids have prevented me from working on the theater as much as I had hoped and I am probably a year away from being ready.

I just don't think we have enough willing hosts around here to put a full Eastern Iowa crawl together right now.

If we had 3-4 interested, we could just watch 4-5 scenes of movies at my house, chock down a couple beers and who knows, maybe get the BBQ fired up!

Not sure an Eastern Iowa crawl is in the cards for this spring. If there is still interest in the fall, one stop along the route could be a new AV store here in Cedar Rapids. Hawkeye Audio is currently in discussions to open a store on the north side. Some of the same brands as the Cedar Falls store (JVC, Marantz, Denon, Golden Ear, Paradigm, Screen Innovations) as well as a few new brands for their store (SVS, Universal Remote Control, more Oppo stuff and maybe EluneVision screens). Based on the last conversation I had with Kent I think he hopes to have the store open by late June 2017.

I know the fall is often busy with football and holidays, but with enough planning it could work for those interested. Also a fall date could serve as motivation for @IA_Hi_Fi_Guy to complete his upgrades. Heck, maybe I would even be willing to help him complete his tasks.

You posted this while I was taking my sweet time to load my last post. If there are 3-4 people willing to host, this is a GREAT idea! Doesn't need to be a full blown crawl with 5-6 stops.

Yeah I don't think it needs to be anything super formal or complex. A couple stops in the IA City area. Lunch. Couple stops up north in CR and done.

I would be in for this. I'm building a new house this spring and would love to get some ideas for the theater.

That would be a great method. If there are 2-3 host volunteers in CR and 2-3 in the Iowa City area we could do the group thing again to avoid a large crowd of people all showing up and trying to fit into a single space at one time. As Joel suggested we could break into groups and rotate in the Iowa City area then everyone meet someplace for lunch to chat, then go back into our groups and start the CR circuit.

As I posted earlier, Kent hopes to have a Cedar Rapids location of Hawkeye Audio opened by June or July. I mentioned the crawl idea to him and he said he would be willing to do some huge deals on gear again for anyone looking to special buys. So if we do a late summer or early fall the store could be the final meeting spot or one of the CR locations. That time of year also gives a a few guys time to complete a few upgrade projects.

Does anyone in the quad cities area have a Denon Audessy microphone I can borrow? Today I tried to run audessy after adding rear speakers, and it acts like it's not hearing the speakers during the test. It just stops testing after the first speaker (FL) and says microphone not present.

I have an Audyssey microphone for my Marantz receiver. I live just east of the Quad Cities, but i work in Davenport. Let me know and I could just take it to work with me on Monday, unless you needed it sooner.

Thanks,

10 days without a post?? You guys alive?

Who wants to come over and carry drywall downstairs?!?! ;-)

I also picked up a new (to me) 42u rack and will quite possibly be putting up my 2 24u racks for sale in the near future...as long as I can fit all of my gear into the new rack.

I keep confusing my intentions with my abilities.

I bought my drywall for my entire basement finish from a local drywall company and they got me "fresh" drywall that was a higher quality than Home Depot/Menards/Lowes, brought it to my house, and delivered it into my basement wherever I wanted it. To top it all off, it was CHEAPER than buying it from one of the box stores and I didn't have to haul or unload it.

I made them work too. They wanted to hoist it off of the truck into the middle of my back yard, but trees were in the way, so they had to carry it in my hand... These were 4x12 sheets. A lot of it was 1/2", but the home theater was all 5/8" and two layers. Those sheets were heavy.

If you decide to sell the 24u racks I might be interested. I've toyed around with the idea for a while about removing all my computer network gear out of my HT rack. I did have everything in one rack but now might be a good time for two separate racks. So keep us (me) posted.

Yeah, I called several local suppliers but in the end, Menards was still over $500 cheaper to drop it in my garage. $500 will buy a lot of beer and pizza. Hehe.
