I didn't for a while and started late. Fun to read and the characters feel like they should.

In the last issue Jack manipulates one of the storms (Thunder) into killing him so he can get to heaven and talk to someone he needs to. St. Peter attempts to judge him and realizes despite Jack's obvious sins he has, through inept stupidity and dumb luck, balanced the scales. And his head promptly explodes in the next panel leaving Jack to enter heaven.

That should give you an idea of the tone

guys! Just dropping by to say hey from the Lone Star state. I’m about to dedicate some needed time and attention to our builder spec media room. Most of the gear made the trip from Iowa so I’ll be looking to replace the pj and surround speakers only. Need to get going though because we’re missing home movies big time! I hope everyone is well.

Good to hear from ya! Good time to update as JVC has just dropped their new lineup. How are things in TX?

I know I missed it in the thread but where did you end up at in Tejas?

I have been hitting Dallas every May for Lone Star Audio Fest...a pretty down to earth "home grown" audio show that invites manufacturers, vendors, dealers, hobbyists and general public to come spend a weekend listening to good tunes and better gear.
http://lonestaraudiofest.com/

I am heading down sometime in October maybe to grab my 150" screen in the Dallas/Plano area. Maybe @jeahrens wants to co-pilot...

I keep confusing my intentions with my abilities.

Texas is great so far. Lots of new things to do, see and eat. We are in the Dallas area.

The ht is wired for 7.1. I’m going to roll up the sleeves and add wiring for ATMOS and, of course, multiple sub locations . I’m firmly undecided on our next pj. I loved my last 4K Sony and the JVC before that so there is lots to consider. To a lesser extent, I’ll also weigh the short throw options and even the BA TV. Hopefully, I’ll be up and running before any of y’all 🤠 make it this way...famous last words.

Well Sony may have made this round easy for you. Their $4k offering has no lens memory, no color filter for full BT2020 coverage and a manual iris. The $10K Sony model adds lens memory and a dynamic iris, but still no color filter. The $5K JVC RS1000 has better contrast than either Sony (yes even the $10K one), dynamic or static iris and lens memory but again no color filter. The $7K RS2000 adds the color filter for greater than 100% BT2020 coverage (the 4K UHD color standard), doubles the native contrast and has a dual iris system for better dynamic contrast. Also not only are the JVCs native 4K with much higher contrast than the Sony's, they're also much brighter. Honestly it's the first time I can recall for a while that JVC was so far ahead vs Sony. Usually there were points in either's favor. About the only thing Sony has would be potentially better image enhancement processing (if you like that sort of thing).

Yep, the new JVCs are definitely at the top of the list. There is some really good gear out there. It should be fun to choose.

Depends on the weekend. I was hoping to get you and David over for an afternoon listen session in September, but obviously that didn't work. I know David said his October was pretty full, but maybe we can squeeze something in.

The other reason for the trip to Texas could be for http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussio...ndig-oct-20/p1
My buddy Skip is setting up his house (he is also an audio dealer) as a mini audio show on that Saturday.

I plan to be in Marshalltown this weekend doing the final calibration on a theater I installed for an assisted living center. It has a 6500 lumen laser PJ from Vivitek. The seats were custom made by Irwin Seating and are about the same as the ones at the Alamo Drafthouse in Omaha. The space in the front row is for two wheelchairs.

@desertdome will you be doing a roadshow with the RS2000 for us all to check out once they're are released? I think a lot of folks would be interested to see JVCs new toy in person.

I don't like the JVC multiple model numbers. I'm used to the custom installer models like NX5, NX7, and NX9. Anyway, yes I can demo an NX7 or an NX9. Perhaps @dlbeck would be willing to host for comparison with his RS500.

You should do that on either the Wednesday before the 1st or 3rd Thursday of the month (any month). I am in West Des Moines for work twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Thursday (normally) and arrive mid-day the day before (which isn't always the 1st or 3rd Wednesday of a month). Confusing, huh...

Anyway, then I could check it out. I haven't be to dlbeck's place since his original open house.

Joel, the literature on the new JVCs is very interesting, especially the RS2000 for $7k. That’s a decent chunk of change but considerably less than I anticipated for the feature set and apparent performance. Thanks for the helpful post as I continue my due diligence.

I think the NX7 will be more in the price range of the people interested in seeing these. Let us know. I'm in for whatever you bring us. Very excited to see these new offerings.

Yes, I will host. NX7 looks tempting! Anyone give me $5K for my JVC 500?

If we are throwing out crazy offers, anyone willing to give me $3450 for my DLA-X790R which has less than 150 hours on it so I can buy a NX9? I'll throw in three boxes of movie theater candy* with the purchase!

Fair enough. Let's go with $3455 for the peanut M&M option. $3450 for the candy and non-peanut M&M option.

I'll also give a cash only options. $3300 all cash, no candy. Don't do the math on what the cost per box of candy is.

I have some Emotiva gear I was planning to use for my 2-channel and basement media room systems that I am looking to sell. Only selling because I spoke to my builder last weekend and he is so busy he won't be able to finish our basement this winter or spring. Instead of letting the gear sit in boxes for another 14+ months I thought I'd see if any of the Iowa guys are interested. I'll provide prices via PM for anyone who is interested, but I assure you the discounts are substantial. This gear will have nearly a full transferable warranty to the new owners.
  • Emotiva XMC-1 Processor (does not have upgraded hdmi board or Atmos, but can be upgraded)
  • Emotiva XPA 3.2 amp (3 mono blades and 2 stereo blades for 7 total channels)
  • Emotiva XSP-1 Differential Reference Preamp
  • Emotiva XPA-2 amp

If anyone has any interest shoot me a PM. I plan on listing the gear on the classified section and AudioGon next week. Thanks!

So I just discovered this sub-forum and found this thread and thought I'd stop in and say hello from Ames! I don't have a super awesome setup yet but I plan on kicking it up a bunch of notches once I graduate this spring!

Well until I move into a house, I'm kinda stuck with just a 2.x channel setup due to a lack of space. I want to learn about and build a multichannel (probably Hypex 180's) amp, move to an HTPC with an audio interface for EQ, and add another sub for now. Then when I move into a new place, I'll have the amp channels and EQ ready to go for surround. I've had my eye on DIYSG Fusion 8's, so I'd like to build those for LCR and use the KEFs as surrounds. But that's a little ways off so who knows.

Nice to see that you want to do some DIY, a couple of us here have. (I built my sub, and a few others have built some DIYSG speakers - one of whoms home theater of them should be done some time here.

Btw - we get together a few times a year, usually under @Draden1 's orchestration.
