I love my iPhone, but it will never replace my turntable. I've never seen Titanic OR XXXXXXXXX. Alexa is a stripper name.

Welcome to the Anthem family.... Happy owner of an Anthem MRX-1120 myself now for over 2.5 years. Can't believe it has been that long and still their current flagship receiver.

Well if you bought a good 2K projector in '09 it was displaying the top format up until a couple years ago. In another 4 years you'll be looking at missing out on 4K for quite a while. Not that I didn't enjoy movie nights on that Epson, just feels like it's a good time to step up. To bad they don't still have the RS540 around for a great price. Not plug and play, but that's a budget'ish 4K entry you could be happy with for a very long time.

Fantastic! They've been on my list as a potential Marantz replacement. I can't complain about the Marantz for movies, but they keep frustrating me with music. I just want a mode that does room correction and sub crossover for music. No funky coloration. No roll off. The music mode used to do this somewhat, but the last few firmwares have Movie sounding better than Music with 2ch music. Luckily I can go Pure Direct and the room sounds very good, but it shouldn't be too much to ask to have a music mode that just does the basics.

Love to hear a demo!

Hey guys - hope all is well. I know I don't pipe in here much, but I do follow along from time to time, and I was just wondering if any of you DSM guys know of any bars that are showing the Wilder/Ortiz heavyweight fight tomorrow night (11/23/19). Maybe the sportsbook at Meadows? I'm not a big "fight" guy, but I am interested in watching this one, and my small circle of friends are all too busy on Saturday night, or otherwise we'd all pitch in and buy it.

Thanks, and have a good weekend. Go Hawks!

EDIT: Called the sports book and they said if it's a pay-per-view event, they won't be showing it.

I need a Logitech Harmony expert to come to Ames and set up my Elite without any hiccups. I haven’t gotten it correct yet.

Anyone?

Control4 bought out the company and crippled the NEEO remote.

Well, I had a bunch of things that were just never quite consistent across activities, and since I have the new processor in the rack, I’m planning to wipe it clean and start from scratch. I think it started out pretty good and then every time i changed something in the rack I was screwing more things up. Time to start over.

But their stupid software doesn’t run on my new Mac, and the app doesn’t do everything. So I’m kinda struggling now.

I was in the same boat. Harmony app doesn't work on OS 64-bit right now and the iOS is flaky at best. I swapped out a media player in the basement and a bigger TV in the living room and getting those two simple changes made to my two harmony remote was a PITA. If Universal Remote handled Insteon lighting I'd have one of those remotes like yesterday.

They seem powerful, but cluttered and ugly. I don’t need that many buttons. For me it’s all about the simplicity. I loved my NEEO but it auto-updated the night before the Control4 announcement and never worked properly again.

The Harmony is still too much clutter, but it was working okay.

The NEEO had a “replace” option, for when you upgraded a device, which automatically inserted the new device into all the workflows and you only had to make real changes to the differences, if any.

Which Harmony remote do you have? I am still able to program a Harmony 700 and my old Harmony One via the MyHarmony app in 64bit Windows 10. I love the Harmony One even after all of these years. Sure, I wish that it also had RF and not just IR, but it still works for me and I can program it still to this day.

I know that there is an older app still available for download... Maybe it is the one you have and isn't compatible with 64bit Windows??

I have a Harmony One, Harmony 900 and Harmony Ultimate. The issue we are having, we we have Apple OS and iOS. The OS recently changed to 64-bit and Harmony hasn't updated their app to work with that version.

If there was a physical remote that went with it, I'd have done it years ago. I don't want to have to use an app when I'm in the theater. I love being able to use an app before I go downstairs to fire everything up so I don't have to wait for the projector to warm up, but once I'm in the room, I don't want to have to wake up my phone just to adjust the volume.

And there's no way I'd ever even consider putting an Alexa in my home.

I love my iPhone, but it will never replace my turntable. I've never seen Titanic OR XXXXXXXXX. Alexa is a stripper name.

Actually, the other way around...Roomie became SimpleControl.
But, I agree...I love it and have used only it since about 2014 or so.
I will be setting up full control of the theater as well as the rest of my wire taps...er I mean Amazon Echo devices in the near future.

I, for one, embrace and welcome our robot overlords.

I keep confusing my intentions with my abilities.

How many of you guys have experience going from a receiver to a pre/pro and external amp? Been reading about how "big of a difference" it makes, but am looking for someone with real experience that's actually taken the time to setup their system(s). Was it worth it? Does it matter the size of room and listening levels, or is there a benefit at all levels?

I did it. Night and day.

Went from a Marantz AVR to a Sony ES AVR (for about 2 months) and then to Emotiva UMC200 and UPA700. There was really no comparison.

Still using the same amp, used an XMC1 for a few years. Just switched to an Anthem AVM60.

You just get more power. 99% of receiver power ratings are at 2 channels driven and drop dramatically when you start using 5 or 7 channels of amplification. Dedicated power amps will be rated accurately and provide much more and much cleaner power at theater volumes.

I felt there was a benefit at all listening levels when I ditched my AVR and went with separates. I remember the speakers having more grip/control even at non cranked levels, which I feel was directly rated to the speakers getting fed more/cleaner power. Clarity also increased, that was the other thing that stood out for me.

If you’re getting the itch, check to make sure they have an in home trial so you can send them back if you don’t like/notice a difference.

What processor and amp(s) are you interested in?

Since it’s the holidays I figured I’d share this with everyone, theater signs that look awesome! I saved some to a usb drive and had them printed as 5x7’s at Walgreens. Some people wait for Walgreens’ 50% sale and have these printed on metal. I’ve seen pics and they look fantastic!

I found these signs in a thread here years ago, figured everyone should take a look.

I'd echo what Draden and Thrillcat have found. I moved to separates a long time ago and my observations mirror theirs. Sound is more detailed and effortless. Plus dedicated preamps tend to get better processing chips and of course don't have the potential noise of onboard amps to deal with.

There can certainly be factors like the speakers and the quality of the AVR being compared, but I have found it to be a very worthwhile upgrade.

Also, processors often have better quality room correction built in. You have to look pretty hard to find an AVR with Dirac or similar built-in, theyre generally getting Audessey or a blanket low-end proprietary system.

I love my iPhone, but it will never replace my turntable. I've never seen Titanic OR XXXXXXXXX. Alexa is a stripper name.
