BTW, any luck getting ChadB to come calibrate you system?

How's everyone doing? I got Chad B to calibrate my theater and it looks and sounds much better, just fabulous. I got a 3D mode, 4K HDR mode and a normal Blu-Ray (w/ Tivo) mode.

The highs on the Triad Platinums LCRs sound much better, less harsh. He calibrated the Marantz 8802A pre-pro too.

Best wishes,
Dave

All good in St Augustine. Waiting for delivery date for my Revel Salon 2 and Voice 2. Now I need some amps to run those speakers.

Cheers,

@easycruise if you don't mind some company one day, I would love to hear/see the improvements. Those Triads remain the best speaker I have heard to date.

Eyeing Parasound JC1 and A51.

Meanwhile I love the Marantz 8805, excellent pre-pro.

Hi. Make sure you check out the D-Sonic amps. All my AVS friends in PA and VA (one of which got the "AVS home theater of the month" award) told me to get that brand and one of them even had a Parasound at the time. I bought two of their amps (since I have a 11 channel Atmos setup). A year and a half later, all is still operating very well.

Very interesting until I saw the power requirements. 20amp. I don’t have that in my family room.

Seems like a solid amp.

It could be as easy as switching out the breaker from a 15a to a 20a. The current wires may support it.

But something else to think about...

How many amps are you planning on getting?

Technically, each amp is supposed to have it's own dedicated circuit anyway.

Dave, how are you liking the Custom Gamma Curves? Watching a lot more 4K's now?

So you did have ChadB do the audio too? Any other improvements in the surrounds/ATMOS or Bass?

The manual states.

“AC Power Connections
We recommend that you plug your JC 1 into the same AC wall outlet or power strip that powers your other audio components, especially the preamplifier or system controller. Having all the audio components on the same power circuit helps prevent hum caused by possible ground loops. The JC 1 requires AC power that is continuous rather than switched on and off.”

So it reads like I do not need another circuit. Am I reading this right?

Hmmm... that does sound like what they say to do. But perhaps they're assuming only one amp on that line.

Not sure... maybe Class A amps don't have the same requirement as the pro amps a lot of us use to power our subs's and speakers. They almost always specify a dedicated 15a or 20a breaker for each unit.

Try giving Parasound a call/email. Let them know what you plan to do and see what they suggest. If you're going to use more than one amp, you still may need more outlets/circuits.

According to their manual, it eats about 1,260 Watts when running. This page helps you calculate that into amperage. going by just 1,200 Watts, you're still 10-12.5a's. So maybe one amp and some other gear can fit on one line. But probably not multiple amps.

Do you guys know anything and chime in?

Well since the JC1 comes as a pair I was thinking it should be fine. Fortunately I have four outlets on the wall. And now that you mentioned pro amps, maybe I should move my Crown CD 1000.

Ok here below is the final equipment list on how this rebuild is shaking out.

Family Room: Sony XBR-65Z9D; Oppo UDP-203; Marantz AV8805; Revel Salon2 & Voice2; Parasound JC1 & A51; PS4; ATV4; Crown CDi 1000; Sonos S15; CyberPower 1500 PFCLC

The Crown amp is running 10 outdoor speakers & 2 subwoofers.

Speakers arrive on Friday. Waiting arrival date for Parasound amps.

Next on list is upgrade to XLR interconnects and speaker cables.

After that is done I will work on upgrading my ceiling speakers. I am looking at going with Revel or JBL ceiling speakers.

Still around. For a bit there wasn't much posted here. Been trying to be good getting (back) to the gym, doing some minor house stuff. Hobby wise, I just got a telescope (which I still need to get to) and a new amp (for the main system and will eventually get rid of the old) about four months back. Been listening to music and watching movies and it amazes me how well it drives my speakers (Thiel 3.7s) which are a difficult load. The new amp is (an IcePower 1200AS2 - https://icepower.dk/products/amplifi...mparison-chart) Class D with lots of upgraded stuff (from the case to internals - mine is made by Mivera Audio and there are several other companies making amps with the module as well). In the pic below it is next to the monitor on the middle of the bottom shelf. It amazes me how cool it runs besides the fact it sounds incredible.

It was custom made to my specs (I furnished the drawing with dimensions I needed) and is 350 lbs. net weight. They can make racks with the veneer of your choice and the color of posts that you want. It was made by Odyssey Audio - http://odysseyaudio.com/Odyssey-furniture.pdf

Below is the original sketch I did (without the dimensions)

I also had matching speaker stands done for the side and back surrounds

I haven't been very active here as my kids keep me well occupied. But I wanted to update the thread with our last GTG. These are very informal GTG's. Any reason to hang out and eat some grub with some good folks, I am in. We were interested in doing a before and after @tarponater 's house as he is in the process of building a dedicated room in his garage.

Most people don't get the opportunity to directly compare multiple speakers in a single day. It really is an eye opening experience. We all love our speakers we build or buy. A lot of that is the passion put into the build or the cash laid out to achieve a sonic goal. We are lucky to have several people willing to open their homes and others that don't mind dragging their speakers there for us to listen to.

@Mattcc22 @chadsmith013 @Soundwave rider and myself stopped by @tarponater 's house. He has epic building skills.

House system:
Onkyo TX-NR676 AVR
DIYSG Fusion10 for LCR
Polk TXS250C for surround and ATMOS channels
Pair of UM18"s in mini-Marty spec enclosures on iNuke6000DSP (front)
Pair of UM18"s sealed (nearfield behind main seats) on Crown XLS amps and MiniDSP 2x4
Buttkicker LFE on iNuke3000DSP
He also had some awesome enclosures loaded with PA460's but were unused. I documented them though because they look amazing.

@Mattcc22 brought:
Bookshelf MT with Dayton RS180S-8/SEAS 27TDFC detailed on PE
MBM loaded with DIYSG Magnum12

@chadsmith013 brought:
DIYSG Volt6

We tried each set of speakers as mains with the same music with crossover applied and with everything defeated. I will let the others chime in to give impression. we all pretty much agreed on the strengths and weaknesses of each implementation of the designs.

We had some time to run to @chadsmith013 's house to check out the addition of a pair of HO15 sealed nearfield behind his couch. He has the most violent room of the group right now by a large margin. Here is a quick rundown of his room.

Pioneer SC95
Xbox OneS, Xbox OneX, and PS4 for sources
DYISG Fusion10 for LCR
DIYSG Volt6 for surround and ATMOS channels
Pair HO18"s in Cyclops enclosures (front) on iNuke6000DSP
Pair HO15"s sealed (nearfield behind couch) one channel of second iNuke6000DSP
Pair PA360 15"s in VBSS variant enclosures 4.4cf 34Hz (either side of MLP) other channel of second iNuke6000DSP

I try to take pictures, but get lost in conversation about the gear and demos to the point I forget about that totally. I made sure to grab a few this time.
