G-STR-0 is the green stretch parameter which affects a very small portion of the green during color decoding, particularly those greens that are close to yellow. It makes them more yellow.

F-Input 2 Component 480i/p,720p,1080i, Input 2 DVI 720p, 1080i
G-Input 1 Component 480i/p,720p,1080i

Can you (or anyone) tell me of your own knowledge or citing some official document from Hitachi that F controls only component 480i/p and DVI, while G always controls component 720p/1080i? Regardless of the Color Setting (AUTO, HDTV, or DVD)???

Or is this just repeating what you heard elsewhere?

This is from calibrating over 20 newer Hitachi's, including 100s of hours on my own. Somebody else discovered the G-STR-0 parameter. I only tested and validated its affects on the sets.

AUTO, DVD, and HDTV are device primary selection options for the input. HD primaries and SD/NTSC primaries are different.

I just want to say a quick THANK YOU to those who have contributed information to this thread.

I was getting very, very tired of having nearly every colour (more or less) correct on my 51SWX20B, but having people's faces look purple. Correct the faces, and everything else went galley-west... I nearly got rid of the set because of this.

But then I found this thread, got AVIA and now my picture looks absolutely unbe-flipping-lievably good! Of course, my cable feed looks like crud, but that's not my TV's fault. ;)

Some day, I'll get a calibrator to adjust my guns (my red gun is quite fuzzy, and my crosshatch is not square in all places), but this certainly has added a thousandfold to my enjoyment of my set.

THANKS!
-Iain

You can do pretty much everything but grayscale yourself...

Consider fixing this yourself?

Everyone who has taken the time to contribute here has my thanks. My 51 is coming on Saturday, but from reading this thread, I feel like I have had it for a month already.

Question: definitely going to get gray scale done, but would like to know if anyone can recommend someone in the central jersey/NY metro area.

Thanks.

The thread that won't die. :)

I've had my tweaks installed for some time now and things still look great. Just curious, how often should one recalibrarte color or do a full manual convergence on this set?

Can someone tell me what their B-cut-h, b-cut-m, and b-cut-s settings are?
I'm seeing some blue in the greay scale that I'm trying to get rid of. My orginal settings on all three parameters is 90. I've adjusted b-cut-hi to 7E and my grey is much better it seems. Just curious as to what others sets are set to here. The set is a 65twx.

He didn't say he was just going to plug in other's values. He said that he was "just curious" as to what others were using. Seems like a valid question just to see how much they fluctuate among users and such...

You need to invest in a setup disc like AVIA or Digital Video Essentials. These contain specific test patterns and instructions for evaluating the color decoder.

Hi all. Have not been here in a while. Glad to see that my old post still lives. :D

I was just looking at the manual for the successor to the XWX20B. I notice that the user menus now include settings to adjust the color levels for different modes. This is a GREAT enhancement.

It seems logical that this is a software upgrade that should be available to the XWX via the much touted MMC memory slot. Anywone know if it is available? If not, time for another e-mail campaign to Hitachi.

Add me to list too. This was my first experience with Mfusick and the information that I received from this thread was invaluable.

How many upgrades via the slot on the back have there been on the XWX ?
I received one much earlier in the year and then got away from the thread. It seems everything I've learned about my Hit has been here. It's a 65xwx20.
thanks

How often have some of you done regular adjustments to your Hitachi?

I've had my 57TWX20B, and applied many if not all of these hacks ages ago. I had the color dead-on with AVIA, and DVDs/HDTV look great. Even satellite looks pretty damn good. I'm just curious because I haven't really done a think to re-adjust the settings in what seems like a year or so. I rarely even push that MAGIC FOCUS button on the front.

Just wondering how often some of you do re-adjustment tweaks to your set?

For me, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But the tinkerer in me always wants to play with the settings.
