It says "smoothly", so perhaps it might be actually useful, unlike infamous "Image AI"? How did they do that, and also 8000 lamp hours? Does it have regular lamp or some kind of LED or something?

So these are only native values? Looks like you didn't test Dynamic Black or what?

No useless, because of the fan issue, I'm not able to support the activation of Dynamic black, the second reason it's because you can hardly sse a visual difference between DB on and DB off, but you can easily hear it biggrin.gif

Kraine, thanks a lot! What about RBE? On HD25 the wheel has only 2x physical speed and on W1070 it's 3x. Also, what about noise level compared to W1070 and is there light leakage?

Kraine,

Sorry but me small brain has a great deal of difficulty understand the translated version. Could you possibly post the conclusion section here on this thread in better English. I have seen your posts here to be in flawless English. Also, I read the manual and from there it appears to have lens shift, but your "what we regret" section says no lens shift. Could you comment on this?

Manual indicates 116% fixed offset. A few example calculations found in the manual here: http://www.optoma.co/uploads/manuals/HD25-M-en.pdf listed on page 23 confim that percentage.

Which is very close to having the w1070 at "max shift" (since Benq says up to 130% but they base that off half screen height) .... in otherwords Benq's real offset is 115% at most.

So street price, once it hits the US, is probably around $1200. That's $300 more than the W1070. I expect a lot more for that price difference.

20000:1 dynamic contrast looks impressive on paper, we'll see if it's usable. 8000 hours on lamp too.

I was hoping this would be in a similar price range because I need the longer throw and the estimated bulb life is a plus. The upside to the w1070 is it's available now, just need to sort out the short throw issue.

I am in the same situation as you are It seems that I am at a crossroad was going with the Beng and ready to pull the trigger then the Optoma came in to the picture , one advantage in my opinion is that it has a lens cover, to me that is a plus, now which one is better for my situation need a throw distance around 11 feet or so.

RBE are very very discrete. The HD25 is noisy, more then the BenQ W1070. They are light leakage on both side by the ventilation holes.

The HD25 has no physical lens shift

Let's try this :

Small size and small price for a big picture that offers 2D and 3D qualities that nobody could hope to reach a few months ago on projectors positioned on price less than3,000 € .

Optoma does not offer us the perfect projector, but the sum of its qualities should make you quickly forget some of his weakness. Our advice to the manufacturer: confronting to the BenQ W1070 repositioning pricing or give us an offer that includes at least one pair of 3D glasses RF.

However, we assign an Award AVHD, but only for its 3D performance with ABSOLUTLY no ghosting.

What we love

The sharpness
Complete and updated menus
CMS effective
A 3D image without ghosting
The choice of RF glasses for 3D
The built-in speakers delivering a good sound quality

What we regret

No Lens Shift
No image interpolation
Operating noise
Dynamic black useless and noisy

The W1070 is too short throw for me. I don't think this Optoma will be a good substitute from what I read so far (and for some reason I have always tried to avoid Optoma in the past). In any case, other that the W1070 being too short throw, I don't like the fact that it must be sent back to BenQ for a firmware upgrade. I'll keep looking. Reviews of the Sharp XV-X3K are starting to come in and it appears that those that got in on the Groupon deal are liking what they got. Perhaps I'll hold off for the next round of sales on that although its about 2X the price of the 1070 and approx $700ish for this. Oh well, we'll see what can be tweaked out of this when it materializes here. The lamp life on the Optoma is nice though.

Hi Kraine,

On avs this time.
I have one question.
When you tested the Benq 1070 what was the projector placement (behind or in front of you)
I still suspect that placing a short throw projector in front (for compatibilté with smaller screens) have an influece on 3d pop (since rear shelf projectors seems to have better 3d)
I might be wrong but I would like to be sure of that.

Hi toni1, as all the projectors I have tested, the W1070 was front of me in table position.

wow I have to say this is very tough for me, one factor Im liking about the HD25 over the W1070 is the RF glasses, oh the choices ^_^

Can you post a comparison video of fan noise?

This projectors needs a hush box. Otherwise I think it's even better than W1070.
