I got a replacement 5010 from Epson. My last one - you could hear the auto iris (sometimes it was too loud). With this one no audible noise at all.

Im wondering if the auto iris is even wrking. How can I test to see if it is?

Thanks

I've never experienced a subtle auto-iris.

you could try displaying a solid black screen and turn the auto iris on/off and see if anything changes.

with my old Epson, I noticed it most when flipping between webpages. going from a 'standard' bright white webpage to a very dark, nearly all black webpage and back again. there was also a slight delay, if I remember correctly going to the white one looked very washed out for half a second until the iris opened.

Displays: Samsung PN64F8500/JVC X35
AVR: Pioneer VSX-1130K, 7.1/5.1.2 audio
Sources: HTPC, PS3, XBOX360, Wii
Control: Harmony One

Display a picture/movie that has the black bars on top/bottom.
Turn off auto aris and the black bars should be a litte brighter/grayer.
