Not much improvement. Color wheel changed to 6x, so does W1070. Added 2D to 3D conversion, do you really need this? Still full manual zoom and focus. Still 2000 lumen. Lamp life is only 2500 hours even in economy mode. To be honest I'm not impressed.

What a big waste

Tatanka1313 08-05-2013 10:55 AM

Thanks for posting this Thebes. Even looking at those specifications I still could not tell whether this was a dark chip 3. I want to assume it is since the 1070 was dc3. Anyone know?

badshah2000 08-05-2013 11:06 AM

Looks like a good improvement and refresh to me. This unit with its price point and technology involved is already at the edge of what it can offer. How much else do you guys want from a sub 2000 projector right now? :-)

Bulb life is a product of type of bulb used. Yes, you can have longer lamp life but it would be a different technology and projector designers didn't like its characteristics. If longer life is important, what is wrong with Epson 3020 which is a better unit anyways....

hotjt133 08-05-2013 11:21 PM

So you think a color wheel speed bump from 4x to 6x is good improvement? That's the only real improvement IMO. The sub $1000 W1070 already do this so it is a catch up.

This W7500 should be W7001, or just a face lift in car terms.

The 7500 and 7000 is basically the same projector. The only reason to choose the 7500 over the 7000 if they are the same price. But since the 7000 should be cheaper, I don't see a reason to choose the 7500. If you don't need the lens shift, the W1070 is still a better buy

curtishd 08-21-2013 06:03 PM

Anything new on this?

roknrol 09-04-2013 04:03 PM

Yeah, I was hoping the new W7500 would be all the goodness of the W1070 + all the goodness of W1400 + the same form factor and lens shift/zoom of the W7000.

Boo.

curtishd 09-27-2013 04:28 PM

Any news at CEDIA?

thegarr 09-29-2013 08:22 AM

Yes I was wondering the same any news on the w7500?

Was There not a off site event at all?

Pastuch 09-30-2013 09:35 AM

They need to send one of these W7500s to Art at ProjectorReviews. My W5000 is getting long in the tooth and I want a new PJ with lower input lag. Not a huge fan of the louder noise design of the W6000, 7000, 7500 though... My W5000 on wisper is good because it's directly overhead.

curtishd 10-03-2013 09:13 AM

So when are we going to hear more on the W7500?

After all the issues the prior model had for months after release I would be waiting this one out a while before considering a purchase.

thegarr 10-04-2013 08:01 PM

Think id be better off with a w1500 or 1400?

I think you would be better of waiting and seeing or going with a w7000. I personally would wait and see as we don't really know much about the w7500 yet and some people need to actually see it before we can comment as specs are more often then not next to useless (thanks epson for starting the trend of inflated contrast ratings tongue.gif).

dougri 10-22-2013 12:07 PM

Looking forward to release and early reviews... seriously hope it is more than just a color wheel update... from the specs on the chinese site, the only differences are a mention of the color wheel (6x), higher max power consumption (presumably to spin the color wheel faster and conduct a bit more processing for 6x), a bit noisier (again due to a color wheel), and a tiny bit lighter weight. Other than that, it looks very much like the W7000... the chinese site is even using w7000 pics on the w7500 page. The W7000 already was advertised as using the lamp dimming, maybe they've improved that algorithm a bit to be used in conjunction with the DI. With so much spec similarity with the W7000, it does not look like any changes to the optics/lightpath are in play, and thus a drastic improvement in native contrast is unlikely. Still DLP link, maybe DC3 upgrade (but with same light path that could be a very limited improvement), 6x color wheel. Still hoping for a rabbit out of the hat though.

coderguy 10-22-2013 01:15 PM

It would be sad if the w7500 is still DC-2, now that would just be lame.

dougri 10-22-2013 02:46 PM

It might be lame WITH dc3... Very little to distinguish between the w1070->w1500->w7500... Seems as much about tradeoffs and priorities as improved performance.

They bumped up the contrast from 50K to 60K w/ a DC3, increased lamps hours on Eco mode by 500 and changed the Horizontal Frequency from 31K-92KHz to 15K-102KHz (though I'm not sure what that means).

Other than that, it looks like minor tweaks with no real improvement.

But we shall see what it's like if it ever get's released over here and reviewers can tear it apart.

Edit: Oh and Frame Interpolation and 2D-3D conversion was added but no mention of triple flash 144Hz.

FI is already present on the w7000. They really need to improve the blacks and the quality of the DI.

What will be interesting is if panamorph will work in 3d on the w7500 as it doesn't on the w7000.
