Hi AVS-folks,

I am currently in the middle of getting a jamestown AT screen, fixed screen- about 100inches. The seating will be around 10 ft from screen, I am planning to black out the 2 windows, so it should be pretty dark in the room.

Lately there's some good deals out there with the new PJs coming down the pike so I'm sure there's a lot of folks in my boat, trying to get a good deal but not get something that I'm going to regret ina few years.

I currently have a optoma gt750 projector and looking to upgrade to 1080p.

I do really enjoy 3D movies and when I calibrated my 750, I had to reduce a lot of the green so my lumen output suffered. In the end, I couldn't enjoy a sunny scene because it just looked overcast.

The projectors I'm looking at:
Optoma HD131X - cheapest, dlp so no cross talk, I worry about the black levels since my budget 750 did not have very good black level, I am not sensitive to RBE, the 750 has I think 2X wheel and it's fine for me.

Mitsubishi 7900 - looks like a great deal, a 2000 dollar PJ at half that price. A lot of reviewers liked the skin tones, but I worry about 3D brightness. I'm guessing that the 2D pic would be an improvement over the optoma 131.

Epson 5020ub - refurb at apex is 1900.00 but doesn't come with glasses like the 5030. I know that this is a favorite over here, it's versatile, and I believe it should have better blacks than the other 2. Also can output quite a bit of light for 3D.

Epson 5030 - 2600 at most retailers. Comes with 2 pairs glasses so I'm going to price this at 2400. I'm thinking that CFI in 3D isn't a big deal to me, the improvement in black level....probably not worth an extra 500 bucks for me.

Sony hw50es, if I can find out at around 3k. At around a 3K price with an extra bulb, it really puts this price point in with the 5030. So I'd probably go with this one if it were between this and the 5030. Only question is whether it's worth 800 bucks over a 5020.

I've owned a budget 720p projector and my tv is a budget LG 720p plasma....and I have been fine with those. I don't need the ultimate best picture but if a picture is noticeably better, I think that's worth a little more money. If the mitsu 7900 can do 3D well on a 100in screen with light control, I'd love to save 2K in cash.

Hopefully the guys that have looked at pictures from all these sets can give me some guidance as to the difference in picture and brightness with 3D.

Thanks guys

I know there is a deal on the Mitsubishi HC5. Look that projector up and read reviews of it. You can get them for around $1600 or less and the 2D is comparable to JVC in 2D.
