while watching british shows and movies, I have been cursing my sony bluray system, the bluray coding, and anything else I could find. it turns out that the culprit was something else. even on a low setting, the fault was the frame interpolation of the epson 5010. the picture would freeze about once a per second for a tiny bit enough to result in a look that was very choppy. it did not require a videophile to notice it. it was bad.

even on other source material, frame interpolation did not do that much good. so, my advice is to turn it off immediately. it will bite sooner or later...

Yep, noticed this the first time I tried it. I hate the effect anyway, looks totally artificial. Been turned off ever since.

something else bad about it. watching foyle's war on the epson, with both frame interpolation and iris off, it still cycles up and down on its brightness (and even on a pause during a bright scene). it does not happen on native US material as far as I can see.

this epson projector seems to be anti-Brit.

What do you mean brightness cycles up and down?
I don't get this problem or at least haven't noticed it. Which firmware version are you running?

I only turn it on for live sports events and never noticed this.
What FW version are you running?
