I don't know what to do. I might just live with it for the black levels. Low lamp mode is fine and the noise on the rare 3D movie I watch is no big deal. Its having to go to high lamp for 2D once the bulb starts to dim that I'm worried about. I'm 12' from a 120" 16:9 screen. Light controlled room.

What if the 5040 is just as loud or louder?

I returned my 5030 not for decibel level, but for a newer generation model (hopefully even better). When I purchased at the beginning of June I was expecting a CEDIA 2016 announcement of a new model, followed by a late 2016, early 2017 release (and a much higher price); Both of which I didn't expect any earlier than June. Due to the fact that both my assumptions were wrong, I returned it.

That being said, I would agree, the 5030 is a bit louder on the normal viewing side (which I usually defaulted too watching due to lumens in picture); I simply just got used to it in my 3 weeks of ownership. I'm expecting the 5040 to be the same as the 5030 decibel wise...if less then GREAT!!! It won't deter me from purchasing the 5040 though...

Besides the decibel level on normal viewing, the 5030 was awesome for me. The eco mode was whisper quiet too.

It not like it's super loud and its not an annoying sound either. It's just that when you build a room with low noise floor in mind, equipment in other room etc., it's too loud. When its the only other sound in the room, it stands out and is hard to ignore.

If you have a relatively neutral screen Reference mode is pretty accurate. But otherwise the 40es isn't all that easy to calibrate without an external processor doing the heavy lifting.

thanks so much. Everything seems alright but some reds and dark blues aren't in tune. Too difficult to calibrate!

Maybe your colors are bleeding into each other. Have you tried doing the panel alignment? It's really easy and could improve color and clarity.

"What do you mean it's too loud? My ears aren't even bleeding yet!"
