Moving to a new house next month and in initial planning stage, new to tv projection. Can anyone tell me if my idea to build an overhead projector shelf with black cloth Instead of a mount is a bad idea? Wondering because so many seem to use mounts instead of a shelf. BTW, probably be an Epson 5050 with a 2.35 screen.

I made my own mount from perforated metal corner profiles and bolts. It's not mounted on a ceiling, but it could be (using proper dowels). It allows for some horizontal rotation (I would say 10 to 15 degrees, although the projector has to nudge) and horizontal leveling. Very sturdy, very cheap, not heavier than the common mounts. Mine is very rough on the edges, but if cut, polished and painted, will look great.

Utilizing a Chief RPA Elite Projector Mount, which came with my Epson 6040UB. I love the fine adjustments and sturdiness of this mount. I would highly recommend it. I am now using it for my JVC NX-5, which only needed the JVC mounting plate.

Peace and blessings,

Azeke
