Are sharpness "0" only with present 3 or with all of them? Do you think I should go with another present?

When I have Super White off, 17-25 flash when I test black-level with the AVS disc. But when I enable it, none of them flashes. Why is that? Are you guys using 48 or 52 in brightness to get the most accurate when you tried my settings?

Do you think I should change anything for my picture to be better? Any settings that you prefer?

Thanks again!

Here are my settings:
Color mode: Natural
Brightness: 46
Contrast: 62
Color Saturation: 60
Tint: 37
Color Temp: 6500
Frame Interpolation: Normal
Image Preset Mode: Off
Noise Reduction: 0
Mpeg: 0
Detail Enhancement: 0
RGBCMY: I didn't touch it.
Super White: On
Power Consumption: Eco or Normal
Auto Iris: High Speed

I have a completely Black Room. Walls, Ceiling, Floor, No Windows
Source material: Disney Wow, Blu-Ray:Sting-Live in Berlin, Blu-Ray:Andrea Bocheli-An Evening in Tuscany

The night sky is Inky Black. Suit materials are jet black with light grey pinstripes. Gowns are brilliant white. All colors are outstanding. The darkest blacks displayed, were as dark, and evenly matched to the black velvet frame of my Silver Ticket Screen. IMO this projector does not have a problem displaying black. It's an amazing picture.

My screen is a white material, acoustically transparent, 1.1 Gain. Silver Ticket 120 inch, STR-169120-WAB

Have you used any equipment to analys your settings to see how accurate they are?

In many reviews of this projector they recommend present 2 in image enchancement. Is it better to turn it off when watching blu-rays?

The presets are purely for personal taste. they apply filter and algorithm to the pictures (kinda like a Darbee) some people like their Darbee full on some in the middle some not at all. the presets do not affect color, or contrast.

I have some blu ray that look good on preset 2 and some for witch I prefer preset 0 I never go over 2 I dont like the rendering.

Good question! Like I said, I only used the Disney Wow disc. And I have a very limited ability. For example, I don't know if I am supposed to have the Iris "on" or "off" when calibrating.

Hello everyone. I was looking for some 3D glasses for this projector and I found 2 pairs of Samsung SSG-P51002 for 19.99€. This is a great price but I don't know if they are a good match for this projector.
Anyone knows something about them and if I can get a good picture quality with them? Will they work with the 480Hz 3D?

Both setups are used in Eco, normal Iris and present 3 in image enchancement.

I'm running a hdmi from the computer to my reciever and from there a hdmi to the projector. Same connections with the Blu-ray.

Settings used most times when watching movies on my computer (htpc) with full RGB (0-255):
Natural Mode,
HDMI Video Range - Expanded,
Super White off,
Brightness 46,
Contrast 48,
Saturation 43,
Tint 50,
Sharpness 8,
Color Temp 6000k.

Natural Mode,
Super White on,
Brightness 52,
Contrast 48,
Saturation 43,
Tint 50,
Sharpness 8,
Color Temp 6000k.

What do you guys think of those setups? Anything you would have changed? Other ideas on making the most of this projector? And last, could anyone tell me what Super White does exactly and in what way it sees in the picture?

Thanks!

Hi, I am another proud new owner of Epson 2040. My decision was partly because of this helpful thread. This is my third projector for the last 12 years and it is really amazing! For now I am very impressed with Image Enhancement preset #5 , it works really well for HD. I will try your settings and will let you know. The Super White feature prevents overexposure of the white color. This can happen when you have a very high setting for contrast where the white can lose detail.

IOW, what does this update address?

Thanks, appreciate it.

I guess on my wish list would be:
- Additional steps on the Frame Interpolation settings (maybe 0-10 rather than off-low-med-high)
- Custom startup screen (which other Epson models have). (I know I could mimic this with the slideshow feature, but it would be cool to have my own home theater logo pop up there on startup!)

It'd be nice if all companies posted a changelog.

I missed that one (if it was ever released), I did contact them about 1.03 at the time and they said "just an EULA edit", so didn't bother flashing that one.

Neither did I. I'm still wishing for Gamma correction and/or Manual Iris (Fixed Iris)

Because of the price I did not expect much, but OMG are they amazing! Using the Epson 2045 which I picked up for 649. The 3D on this projector is much better than any TV 3D. Watched the movie Avatar in 3D and it was breathtaking at times. The glasses do not come with a case, but you can buy one separately. As soon as I turned the glasses on they connected all by themselves automatically to the 2045. Very happy with purchase. Will be starting a 3D library now.

We kind of had the same reaction here for the 3D part.

I have a fullHD 3D plasma and liked the 3D but since my wife didnt like it and got headaches real quick I only rented 3D movies. When I bought this Pj I also bought 2 pair of cheap no name glasses at the store and tried the Shreck 3D blu ray that came with our TV. I was so much better and my wife didnt get any headache. I have since starting to build slowly (or fast depends on the sales ) a 3D collection the resale of their 2D counterparts should help mitigate the costs. Also nothing beats getting a 42$ movie for 19$ that meets WAF in a BIG WAY.

Thanks. I'll probably hold off unless I find out about some bug or option fixes.
I've just finished mounting, calibrating & tweaking mine, don't wanna go back & recheck everything!

Edit: They just emailed me that the "latest firmware is 1.05 is to support the network updater."

Yes it would be nice. I contacted Epson about the update and they said it relates to EasyMP Network Projection, but if you're not using it and the projector is working perfectly fine then no need to update the firmware.

If you go back a couple of pages me and Ptmelville unlocked the SECRET dip for bluethoot audio (at your own risk)
