Has anyone tried to run this projector at 1080p 120hz 2D? Since this supports 60hz 3D, it should be refreshing at 120hz.

People have attempted this on their TVs and some allows it.

This can be attempted with custom resolution utility (CRU) or EDID overrides.

didn't check this thread until after posting in the found deals forum. Yeah, looks like a pretty good deal. Looking at getting a secondary projector (I really shouldn't though just got through selling 2 of my old projectors last month)

So I purchased the 2045 earlier today and it's a great projector so far. Only problem for me is the constant bluetooth signal. Is there any way to turn this off while not watching a 3d movie?

I saw earlier in this thread about changing bits to open certain hidden menus and I activated the bluetooth one, but it's just for bluetooth audio and doesn't turn off the signal. If anyone knows a way could you let me know before I return this?

Edit: Also if anyone gets a chance that owns a 2040, could you check if it also constantly sends out the bluetooth signal (appears as broadcom on my phone when pj is powered up) just in case? Pretty sure it's for the glasses so probably the same as the 2045.

I don't think your projector is sending a constant bluetooth signal. It's simply doing inquiry scan which it needs to do in order for 3D glasses to pair. You see it on your phone because your phone does an inquiry for devices and the projector responds. The actual Bluetooth signal transmitted out for the 3D glasses will only be sent during 3D movies. Your phone will not be able to connect to this, only 3D glasses.

Inquiry scan should not hurt anything since its only listening and only transmits if another device does an inquiry.

Thanks 2ndvizio! I am very happy if that is correct, because I really like this projector even over my Benq hc3050 and w1070 (for my specific purposes). Do you have any sources to back that up I could look into? I'll do my own research anyway but if you have it already and it's not a problem it would simplify things for me.

It would be great if I could find a bit to completely disable bluetooth until I need it just for my own peace of mind, but I could live with it if it's as you say.

Can you elaborate why is this an issue ? all CE with BT peripherals behaves similarly (at least the ones I used, will always run in "discoverable" mode so peripherals can connect seamlessly).

I haven't checked yet but I will double check on mine and let you know.

Does anyone have any recommendations on resources to help ceiling mount the screen?

I'm aware of the various calculators and will use those, but I'm just a little nervous on ensuring that I hit the exact center mounting location due to lack of lens shift.

Any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated!

Also - the Epson Calculator has not been working correctly for the past couple of days. You're unable to adjust the ceiling height from 9'10". I'll try on the windows download, but if that doesn't work, can I just subtract 5" (my ceilings are 9'5"), from the projector mounting height?

nutdotnet : Not sure if you have a screen already or a planned one, but I know that many (including my cheapo Elite) automatic drop screens can be set to stop anywhere within a given range. So for instance mine has a range of about 6" or 7" so if I plan for the middle of that, there should be plenty of room for some human error.

2ndvizio : No problem and thanks for your help.

aasoror : Was planning on not explaining just for the sake of keeping the thread on topic and avoiding any debate. It's for health reasons and trying to avoid rf/emf etc as much as possible (impossible to avoid completely I know). You can PM me if you'd rather or anyone else for that matter to not muddy up this thread.

My 2045 that I purchased in Feb this year now has a green dust blob near the lower right corner when the screen is black. Any tips on how to get rid of the dust? I vacuumed the filter and lightly vacuumed the filter area but it hasn't helped. It was not dusty at all. Kind of disappointing I have to deal with this so soon. I may try to pull the bulb out and either vacuum or blow some air and try that. Any tips? Is this something Epson will take care of under the warranty? Thanks

Yup, I already purchased a 100" Manual w/ 24" Drop from Elite Screens. I needed the 24" drop due to having to install the projector to the ceiling (I'm installing the screen in front of my 60" TV AND, the wall where I could mount it is river stone...which is very, very difficult to drill into).

The thing is though is that I have to take advantage of the full 24" drop in order for it to clear my television (I don't want the TV to be viewable when I extend the screen) - hence, I'm limited in my adjustment of the screen - it basically has to be fully extended.

Why would anyone buy an Epson if they had multiple issues with the projectors in the past? I love my Epson 2000s (I have two - 2013 and 2015) and would buy another entry level 1080 Epson again in a heartbeat. I like my ViewSonic projector, but I would only get one if the price was right with the knowledge that if it dies quickly I'm not out much.

Between threads/posts of "Russian roulette" with aftermarket lamps, flickering lamps, quality replacement lamps that costs hundreds, entire threads devoted to the favorite brand's dust issue, I'll stick with entry Epsons and their black levels happy with the fact that "cost of ownership" is greatly reduced with a $79 to $99 Epson replacement lamp/housing and a two year overnight replacement warranty. Three screws and my Epson lamp was replaced after the lamp replacement lamp came on at 5000 hours. I probably should have just reset it, but was glad to replace it at $99.

Does any other brand let you return projectors for two years until you get one that works for you? While I wish they would provide a "new" projector for at least the first 6 months and then go to refurbished replacements for the next year and a half, it still seems like a better deal than other projectors.

But, if Epson ever lets me down, I will walk away from them and not look back.
Seriously...I don't get it.

We are all going to have different experiences with different product makers. I love Vizio and VW and have never been let down by either. Others think they are both unreliable hunks of junk.

To each their own...but I know if I had a problem with Epson...I'd let me dollars do the talking, and not keep trying purchasing from a company that I haven't had good luck with.

Firmware questions.

Sorry I can't put the link in as I don't have enough posts to do so, but on the Epson Projector Firmware Updates page the 2040/2045 are up to 1.07.

Has anyone installed the 1.07 firmware on their 2040/2045? Does anyone know what changes/fixes/etc it contains?

Also did anyone ever figure out the service menu dip switch settings to enable panel convergence alignment controls like those found in higher-end Epson? i.e. 5030 page 50-52 users guide.

Or maybe someone has a service manual? PM me if you rather

Thank you in advance.

Might try the new firmware this weekend see what got changed. I hope they added in some new features.
Epson needs to start adding firmware changes logs to their website.

Exclamation Firmware 1.07 change log

Reached out to Epson and they got back to me

Quote:
Unfortunately we do not release notes on firmware updates for our products. I can say the most recent firmware update (v1.07) is a minor update that does not affect any functionality of the product for the user, it added some after service menu firmware information changes, which is a feature only accessible by authorized Epson service centers.
At least now we know where to look

Hello!

I have owned the 2040 for almost a year now and love it! Just wanted to ask if anyone know how Sony VPL-VW50 is compared to the 2040? I'm thinking of getting one and have them both. How the picture, black level and other things is in compare, is it a step up? And what would be a good pricepoint for that one?

Thanks!

Do you mean the vpl-hw50es? (The 50VW is pretty old and not worth messing with IMO). The vpl-hw50es will provide a much better picture than the 2040 but should considering the difference in price when both are purchased new.

It must be the older one. He's selling it for 350USD. I have read some reviews of the unit from when it was new. But now, not so good then? Nothing that will be better then the 2040?

Thanks!

If you can see it in action first it might be okay but I have no idea what replacement bulbs might cost and I'm personally a bit leery of SXRD reliability from that time period. Their rear projection units were a mess... Not sure about the front projectors.

I recently purchased 2045 and ceiling mounted it.
From day one, I constantly hear clicking grinding noise when i am navigating through menus in my setup box. When i turn off auto iris, i do not hear this noise.

Is it in all 2040/2045 projectors or mine is defective? I am still in return/replacement timeframe.

The Auto Vertical Keystone menu in my 2045 gets grayed out when I put it in Ceiling Projection mode. In normal mode ( table top mode), it gets enabled again. Anyone else facing the same issue? I recently updated to the latest firmware 1.07. Am wondering if this cropped up after that or if older releases also had this issue. Can someone running older firmware check if their ceiling mounted projectors have this menu active.

Yea, it's a bit noisy the auto iris. If you set it to normal speed, it's a bit better but still.

The auto vertical keystone uses a sensor to detect the angle so the projector automatically apply the correct amount of vertical keystone. I guess the sensor does not work upside down.

Auto keystone is a feature designed for use in quick portable projector setups where a projector is temporarily brought into a conference room for a presentation and set upright on a table. Since keystone degrades the image, the assumption is that anyone permanently mounting a projector on a ceiling will take the time to properly set it up and have no need for auto keystone when the projector is inverted.

I have exchanged it yesterday with new one and now i dont hear the same grinding noise even after many trails. So i think the first unit could be faulty.
