1080 3D replacement for my IN76 for around ?600

Hi.

I am after a replacement for my old Infocus IN76. I am happy with the colours and general pic quality of the 76, but just want full HD and 3D, so need some advice from people that have kept up to date with the latest PJ's about which one is the best replacement for my budget. One i like the sound of at the moment is the Optoma HD151X, which has good reviews, but i bow to the collective knoweledge of you lot I'm not worried about wifi or wireless connectivity as it'll be connected to my PC and Blueray player via existing cables in the ceiling, my only concern is 2D and 3D pic quality and would like it to be quieter than the IN76.

Sounds like the Vivitek H1186-WT. It's been found for as low as 499 at times, but right now it's [email protected] There is a thread here about it.
I have 1 coming myself.

Why waste $ on more cheap stuff, it's like challenging a dragon with a pocket knife.

I've never heard of Vivitech, is it a reputable brand, and what is their warranty/customer service like? It does look good, and 50000:1 contrast sounds awesome! Anyone know of anywhere in the SE i could demo it? Anyone compared it to the Optoma HD151? Just been reading about the Optoma HD141X and Benq 1070 too.

Numbers are inflated, as all are but the high end PJs like JVC.
The thread I mentioned has comparisons to other models, including the wl1070.
Maybe take a look in that thread, it will definitely answer some of your questions.

Every generation there is always a budget king, I'm hoping this is at least in the running.

Let us know what you think when it arrives. I'm worried about spending too much money though as it'll be coming out of my redundancy and i don't have another job yet, but feel the need to treat myself lol, so still interested in the more budget friendly ones like the Optoma 141x etc. If i get another job i'll be more inclined to spend more. Is the Vivitech even available in the UK?

I have no experience with the 141, but by reading this very forum, it's not competition for the 1186, I thought it was even mentioned in that very thread.
Not sure I would even spend the $ to move from the in76 to that one from all I've read, but maybe some other folks will chime in.

Really? I'm not trusting any Amazon reviews again then, they all gave it 5 stars lol. But that's why i'm asking on here, it's easy to assume anything 1080 would be better than the 5+ year old 720 thing.

Oh and haven't read all of that thread yet, but the only 2 UK sellers i've found so far have it for ?720 and ?1400 respectively, and any others are from Ebay and Amazon US, so may be out of my price range anyway.

Why do pound signs come up as question marks?? A lot of people are recommending the Benq 1070 on other threads as the best sub $1000 PJ's.

I think I read that the ht1188 was 1400? The wl1070/newer wl1075 are definitely mentioned in that thread, as are some epsons and the Sony HW40ES.
I'm certain it's not the end all, but I look for budget kings, and from all I've read, the 1186, especially if you can find it for 500 like some here have, is definitely in that arena.
I've had 1 DLP and 2 lcd models...I'll be thrilled to throw DLP back in, as I liked my 1st pj, a Sharp DT-500, which was available back then for a great price.

I'll be happy to compare it to my Viewsonic Pro8100 that has over 20,000 hrs on it...the 1186 new, with a brand new bulb, should crush it.

The BenQ ht1075 or 1080st has 6x color wheel, i.e., no rainbow. However, if you never seen it on the IN76, then you won't. Also, I recalled the IN76 was noisier with less zoom.

It's my buddy's 1st pj and he was thrilled. He even bad-mouthed me as a pj-pusher/dealer. Mine was the 1070w but moved on to th LG pf1500 LED (2D). The LED is dimmer but has a tint footprint.

Have fun.

Yep, was very highly rated at the time, in fact have just been reading this review of it from 2011 http://www.trustedreviews.com/InFocu...ojector-review To be honest i've been watching it on too big a screen for 5 years; 92" screen with a throw distance of 12'. I'm much happier with it on a 60" screen with 9' throw as it looks much more HD, so the in76 will stay in here and the new one will go in the spare room with possibly a 120" screen in the future. Looking at the figures, surely even the Benq 141X would be an improvement in every respect, as it has a lot more than the 76's 3000:1 contrast and is DC3 and a faster color wheel? To be honest, i'm looking for the biggest bang for my buck, although saying that i am always very much tempted to get the best i can afford. I really don't think the Vivitek will be an option for me as it's just too expensive here, and something like that i don't really want to buy from overseas. I'm leaning toward the Benq W1070 as the top of my budget choice at the moment based on what i have read about it so far on here.

From everything I've READ, AKA haven't SEEN, I would buy the 1070 in a HEARTBEAT over the 141.
I think you should look at the 141 discussions ON HERE more(instead of Amazon rookies(for the most part-1st time owners), the guy that started the thread on it here even says he wouldn't buy it(or something like that), and he liked it for what it is...a cheap non RGB low entry level PJ.

Does not compete with the WL1070 at all from everything I've read.

GL in your decision, but remember, the decision you make will probably be with you for 3-5(or MORE) years, so a few hundred over that time frame isn't really anything to worry about IMHO.

Actually i've had it for 10 years, was trying to find out how loud the fan is for comparison and just randomly found a thread i posted in from 2006! https://www.avforums.com/index.php?threads/361153/
IN76 fan noise. TOO LOUD or OK And i never got round to updating the firmware to see if it slows the fan speed down a bit.
